<0> hello
<0> does anyone know of a non-protruding cf wireless card?
<1> nanderson, I don't but I wouldn't expect much range from one.
<0> i just find it so akward to hold my z with a wifi card in
<0> i basically never use it in portrait mode
<2> Hello, I'm trying to set up a basic gcc/g++ development environment on OZ/Opie. When I try to compile a basic g++ hello world program I get a linker error. It's to do with a syntax error on line 5 of /usr/lib/libc.so. Has anyone else come across this? How do I get around it?
<3> lhames: yes
<3> hrw|gone: has compiled binutils 2.16 which should fix this problem
<2> Cool.
<2> It will be added to the feed some time soon I guess?
<3> I think it is
<3> http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl/tmp/hrw/t/binutils/
<2> pgas: Thanks.
<3> it's in the upgrades feed also
<2> pgas: Thanks again. I just did an ipkg update + upgrade and didn't get it. Is there something I'm missing (upgrades feed is definately in my ipkg.conf)?

<3> no, I don't know why it didn't work
<4> hi
<4> lhames: you use 3.5.4 or 3.5.4.1?
<5> hi, naive 'ipkg install vlc-gpe -d sd fails m***ively in a root console with unallowed symlinks.
<3> your sd card is formatted with fat?
<5> do i need to change the fs of the disk?
<3> yes
<5> yeah, hold onlemme check :p
<5> yep vfat
<5> how do i reformat it?
<2> hrw: 3.5.4.1
<4> lhames: ipkg info binutils please
<5> http://www.ossh.com/zaurus/mirrors/docs.zaurus.com/managing_sd_cf_howto.shtml ?
<2> hrw: version 2.15.94.0.1-r1
<4> lhames: hmm.. 2.16 should be newer then 2.15.94.0.1
<3> unomi: or http://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Step-by-step_CF/SD_fdisk/formatting_for_newbies
<3> (but the device name is different)
<2> hrw: How long ago was 2.16 added?
<4> yesterday
<2> Hmm. I'm behind a webcache at the moment, but I doubt it'd be that out of date.
<4> lhames: you can fetch them by hand too http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl/tmp/hrw/fb/?action=details&pnm=binutils
<2> Yep. I'll give that a try. I'm a little concerned that the upgrade didn't work though. I'm trying to figure out why at the moment.
<2> Alright binutils is not listed in /var/lib/ipkg/upgrades, so it didn't make it that far.
<6> good morning
<4> hi alan
<6> hey hrw
<7> this may not quite be the place...
<7> but anyone know where gpe-dm defines which wm to start up?
<8> nowhere?
<8> I would check /etc/gpe
<7> yeah, have done...no genius inspiration when browsing there :/
<9> morning
<10> Schmoople, try in /etc/X11
<10> in particular /etc/X11/Xsession.d/99xWindowManager
<10> which executes /usr/bin/x-window-manager
<10> which is a script stat starts up matchbox and a few auxillaries
<5> http://repair4pda.org/dis***embly_sharp.html
<8> unomi: thats 5500 only
<5> nah
<5> but mostly
<5> anyway i have a 5500 ;)
<5> so after ive used altboot to make do the loopimage boot thing off the sd card.. how do i go about freeing up memory?
<5> hmm, so i did the altoobt thing pivot to sd, fixed the resolv.conf, ipkg update fine .. but hangs on some installs, like say samba
<5> when it hangs i have to reset it, when it comes up everything looks fine till i login, then it cant find any pixmaps and the gui is empty and useless
<5> any ideas?
<11> i'm trying to figure out a good use for altboot.. i'm not so sure I have a reason to boot from sd.
<5> well, on miy 5500 you pretty much have to.
<11> why?
<5> installing in non root seems a pain, and id rather have my sd in vfat
<5> i use sd on my phone also
<11> which phone do you have?
<5> not so ideal when its root :p
<5> ive got a I-mobile
<5> thai manufactured something, works well though and has sd
<11> oh well. off to work.
<0> anyone know of a .chm reader for the zaurus?
<3> opie-reader should be able to handle chm
<0> ty
<12> unomi - you said you are having difficulties with oz on collie - i made a writeup to get collie going as easy as it can be done
<12> http://wiki.openzaurus.org/Collie/TipsAndTricks
<12> hrw, i hope i can discuss with you about oz a bit - i notice a recurring pattern of people dropping into this channel having difficulty getting oz working on collie over the last couple weeks

<12> the difficulty being more in choice of which rom to use and what methods to get collie going with oz including sd
<8> poushag: can you check one thing for me?
<12> the last one i remember was named enginuitor (or something close to that) who had flashed 3.5.4.2 (2.6 kernel) onto his collie and had so much trouble that he said 'no more oz for me until 3.5.5' or something like that
<8> I can build 3.5.4.1 collie images - but they will need testing
<12> (i was afk at the time he was trying oz but he left before i could point him the right way)
<12> my point here being that there are still a significant number of collie folks around - and id like to see if we can help them to pick the right rom - make it so totally obvious that USERS should take rom x and DEVELOPERS rom y
<8> sure
<12> i would also like to see you (hrw) integrate your releases with hentges - what i mean is that he has such a nice way of supporting collie (for users) with card_fs and his backup and other utilities - i think it would be less work for you to just refer all collie USERS to his roms
<8> we need CoreDump for this
<12> yeah - i will be checking back to see how it goes - he did begin greeting folks again on his channel recently (after not saying a thing for ~2 weeks)
<12> and i am happy to help test roms btw - but im not sure how much use i will be at testing now that my sd slot seems to have died
<12> i have a colleague who is going to let me borrow his old collie that he no longer uses - so maybe then i can be more useful in that regard - but i have to wait until he gets it back from his ex-gf :P
<8> :)
<8> poushag: when someone will offer collie I will remember
<12> :)
<12> hey i just discovered your feedbrowser - good idea!
<12> i think it could use some tweaks though - the main problem i have had as a new user of oz is that the package names in a lot of cases give no indication of what the pkg does (i.e. corsair, sylpheed)
<8> then feel free to submit better descriptions
<12> so i think that what would benefit a user most would be if the descriptions could be made more helpful - but how to do it?
<12> just tell you?
<8> submit bugs in oe bugtracker
<12> ok
<12> is it possible to have a search function on the feed browser?
<12> actually the descriptions on those two i mentioned are fine - it was just difficult for me to search thru all the descriptions to find those pkgs
<8> I will add search when find some time
<12> that would be really great - the best i could come up with was doing (on Z) a grep with context -b 9 on 'description' then pipe that into another grep -i 'rss' or whatever kind of pkg i was trying to find
<12> it still was pretty ****y - but at least narrowed things down some
<12> if search could give option to scan the all pkgs or one or more sections (i.e. a single search for all 'mail' pkgs under both gpe and x11)
<12> laibsch - just saw your response to my opie vs gpe writeup - im glad it struck a chord with you
<13> Yes, nice work.
<12> ths - ive always gotten compliments for my writing - so ive been doing what i can to add-to/edit the wiki for oz and oe
<12> *thx (i meant)
<12> just wish i was more of a coder so i could go after some of these bugs myself
<12> how do you suppose we should go about recruiting devs to our "oz core just works" philosophy?
<3> poushag: the documentation is at least as important as bug fixing IMHO
<12> pgas - i agree - docs are the bane of open source in my experience
<3> what's the point of a bug-free application if no one has an idea about how it works?
<12> bingo!
<12> or installs the wrong thing, in the wrong way, etc - it turns them off open source completely and they go back to monoposoft
<12> or at least dont use oz anyway
<8> poushag: can you test collie images for me?
<8> and which one you prefer? gpe/opie/bootstrap?
<13> pgas: OZ is lacking more in docs than it is in code. It is most efficient to go after the weakest link. The devs are not plentiful but there are quite a few and they keep the boat moving. But docs (and maybe UI) is a fruitful area of work for OZ IMHO.
<13> hrw|work: Will these work as loop-mounted images?
<13> hrw|work: I would be glad to help test them as well.
<8> Laibsch: I can provide jffs2/tarballs/ext2
<8> which you want?
<12> hrw - do you still need me now that laibsch is helping already?
<8> also would like someone to flash them as I do not know will they fit
<13> hrw|work: ext2, I guess.
<13> I would flash but I am afraid I won't get 100% of my previous config. I have not tested it out enough yet.
<13> Maybe I will flash them as well.
<13> hrw|work: Are you going to integrate the Japanese stuff into oz354x? Seems like the Japanese guys oftentimes use your tree so they do not have the goodies yet.
<8> Laibsch: if time allow...
<8> Laibsch: I would prefer someone who use it to do it - this way I would not fsck it
<8> http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl/tmp/hrw/3.5.4x-experimental/collie/ - test them
<8> md5 provided
<12> hrw - thx - i will try to flash one or two of those later today - need to get a couple other items off my list first
<8> thx
<14> hello. i try to get iptables running on OZ but i am lacking ip_filter kernel module. cannot find a ipk in the feeds. i tried to compile one using bitbake, but i dont know how :/
<14> bitbake iptables completed but it hasnt build kernel modules
<13> hrw|work: What do you mean? Are you looking for support?
<8> Laibsch: in which subject?
<13> Referring to our chat from about 1 hour ago. re Japanese stuff
<8> Laibsch: I do not even know which stuff need to be changed for japanese support
<8> Laibsch: when someone will provide patches and/or list of .dev revs to add then I can work on it.
<13> Not much. You just add a couple of packages. You had expressed interest earlier which is why I asked.
<13> Take the following from .dev: virtual/japanese-font which I think is qpf-unismall for example. Then nunome, qpobox and poboxserver plus if there should be unmet dependencies which I doubt. libqte might need to be tweaked, but the stuff in .dev works.
<8> libqte changed in many ways
<8> Laibsch: will you test packages if I build them?
<13> Sure.
<8> which device you have?
<13> hrw|work: collie
<8> ok
