<0> it is likely just an nvidia driver bug <1> hope so <1> I want to get back to writing my bushido blade clone <0> you can use the 'nv' driver for the moment <0> but you won't have 3d but for the rest your system will be usable <0> bbl <1> nah, its stable as long as I don't run sdl programs <1> the glitch never occurs using allegrogl <1> afaik at least <2> you could try another driver version <1> go earlier? <1> my card is pretty brand new, I don't know how far back i can go <1> it could be suse 10.1 too, this distro is the worst suse one I've used yet <1> I had to manually edit the kernel source thermal.c to prevent it from shutting down as soon as it starts up due to a false thermal tripping point <1> and the stupid sound card barely works, I don't hear anything without using external speakers cause the volume sliders are missing <1> its been a nitemare, but I sitll hate coding in windows so I'm sticking with linux and hoping the bugs get fixed someday
<2> well one driver release at least <2> hmm my CPU gets throttled when it's too hot <2> I'm on suse 10.1 too though <2> what sound card have you got? <2> hda-intel? <1> hda-intel <1> yup <1> thtas funny <2> tried updating alsa? <1> yep, makes it worse almost <2> wave <1> know how to make it a tad louder though? options snd-hda-intel model=5stack <1> right now I only got a pcm slider, if I could get access to my external amplifier I could turn on the laptop speakers <1> see, I got a conexant codec so its all screwed up <2> you could experimend a bit with the model option <1> sda-intel usually works ok, but my codec chip is whats messing me up <1> I've tried every model listed, 5stack is the best <1> alsa is also really choppy, unless I tell programs to use oss, my sound quality is really poor <2> hmm <1> until my gl programs started freezing, that was my only big problem <1> kommerck, are you on a laptop? <2> well wave had bad experience with snd-hda-intel but he managed to get everything working <2> lghtsword: yes <1> what kind <2> got a geforce go 5200 though <2> dell 5150 <1> oh <1> yea, dells aren't bad <1> hp always has had serious problems with linux <1> in my experience <2> well acpi is fscked up here <2> but other than that it works fine <1> acpi works good on this, a few warning messages here and there <2> e.g. power button and lid close events don't get captured <2> and suspend to ram fails <1> oh damn, that ****s <1> suspend to ram fails here too, suspend to disk works though <2> yeah I use suspend to disk all the time anyway <1> I thought that is what was causing my gl lockups too but today I freshley booted running from ac power source and it happened <2> no, gl works fine after resuming <1> yea it seems to <2> btw you could try to boot with "noapic" <1> what's that do <1> if that disables acpi, I don't want to do that <1> cause I use it to monitor my cpu throttling, battery and lid closing events <2> it's not noacpi <2> apic = Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller <1> ohh <1> any bad things happen when you turn that off? <2> well I don't think it would cause data loss..... <1> slow anything down? <2> well you can test boot with it <2> when you type that in grub it's valid only until reboot <1> yea I figured that <1> it probably just makes the kernel a slight bit less efficient <1> ok let me go for that option <1> thanks for your input <3> ay yi yiyi <3> i love frito's corn chips i love them i do <4> i take dem from you <5> Hi all, I've installed Ubuntu Dapper on one of my machines, and I installed the NVIDIA driver through Easyubuntu. In order to switch to the nvidia driver, I just changed the "nv" entry to "nvidia" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Everything sems to work fine, except that as soon as X starts, my fan stops spinning. Is there a reason why this happens, and how can I fix it?
<6> hey guys <7> lasindi, you should do sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg <6> FunnyLookinHat: can I ask your opinion here? <7> Sure <6> FunnyLookinHat: http://eulex.zapto.org/megabyte/Drawings/Gnome_Tails_Computer.png <6> what do you think? <7> heh, it's cute <7> the arms are to stick-like though <7> and legs <6> FunnyLookinHat: I've just drawn it :) <7> You sure do post a lot of pictures in this channel : ) <6> FunnyLookinHat: http://eulex.zapto.org/megabyte/Drawings/gnome_tails.png <6> here's the original :) <6> yes <6> I do <6> it's been a while though <6> I head a bitch headache with my system <7> heh, cool <7> i gotta go though, sorry ^_^ <6> FunnyLookinHat: Ok, see you <5> FunnyLookinHat: okay, I just tried that, but it didn't work <5> *I should note that I meant my GPU fan, not any other fans (which is why I suspect my NVIDIA driver) <5> Oh <5> Well, help from anyone else is appreciated <7> lasindi, ask in #ubuntu <7> (still afk) <5> Alrighty <8> A driver version that will work well with an old card (Vanta LT)? <9> can someone please help me out with an Nvidia card i just got? <10> Can someone look at a kernel crash trace and tell me what actually crashed, as I'm confused: http://paste.husk.org/6093 <10> I've been playing with a buggy finepix driver, and I totally would expect it to crash, however that trace seems to indicate that the crash happened inside nvidia driver? <10> my understanding is that finepix driver has caused nvidia driver to crash, but I don't analyse kernel crashes every day and may be wrong <11> hello <11> A while ago, I used nvidia-settings to get temperature of my geforce 6800, but when I start nvidia-settings today, there is no topic witch will contain the temperature. Is this removed from the driver? <11> I'm on Gentoo with an AMD64 it it matters <2> I doubt it <11> so, howcome it doesn't show up now? =) <0> nvclock will allways show the temperature ;) (use the cvs version) <11> Thunderbird: hello, long time.. =) <11> Thunderbird: where can I get the cvs version then? =) <0> http://www.sf.net/projects/nvclock <0> (module nvclock) <12> Thunderbird: did you ever look into softquadro stuff? <12> like the new pci express id reprogramming stuff used with rivatuner <11> Thunderbird: ahh, thanks <12> or whatever it uses <12> or looks like it only uses software layer to claim it has a different id <0> it is possible to change the pci id <0> for a certain number of cards <0> on windows this seems to be enough for some cards <0> but on linux there are some more protetions I think (not sure) <0> haven't looked at it recently <0> is there some new stuff in rivatuner then? <12> probably overrides os functionality <12> in linux that is <12> it has softquadro for 6600 A2 and 6800 <0> it is very easy to get the pci id, nvidia could allways check it in the bios (if the bios is the orignal one ..) <0> I think it is just the pci id reprogramming; I could look at it <0> the problem is that my time is very limited <12> hardly a life threatening issue for me, heh <0> got to finish a university project; when it is done I'll finally have vacation <0> there's still some work to do <11> Thunderbird: hmm, something is wrong with cvs.... <11> -- Sensor info -- <11> Sensor: (null) <11> Fanspeed: 100.0% <11> fanspeed is ok, but null? <0> I guess the sensor isn't detected <0> did you change anything about your card? (bios change or something like that) <0> oh, wait you are using a 6800 <0> but still did you do anything special? <11> no, nothing has changed... <0> you also didn't play with the nvidia i2c interface?
