<0> but that's not as much fun
<0> as figuring out a way to get my 800 pesos
<1> ethics? what's that?
<0> i'm from efnet, we don't have ethics
<1> heh
<2> This is #mysql, and we do :)
<3> do we have any Latvian heavies in here
<0> liar
<2> And we kickban those who don't.
<0> :(

<0> i was just going to delete it.
<1> we is plural
<2> I speak for everyone :)
<0> haha
<0> apparently the person he meant to email is mydomain@debian.org
<0> minus the tld, that is
<0> i still kind of want those 800 pesos.
<3> its a long drive, do you want me go and fetch, only 800 pesos per mile
<4> is there a way to get a list of db names from a shell prompt on a mysql server?
<3> show databases;
<4> the mysql command only works if specify a db
<4> archivist: trying to do it from outside of mysql shell, in a linux shell, trying to mysql dump each db on my server individually
<2> llslim: No it doesn't.
<5> i want to schedule a cronjob to make backups of my database, how is the easiest way to do that?
<2> mysqldump
<5> will[werk]: hmm, ok
<2> !m dereks mysqldump
<6> dereks: (The mysqldump Database Backup Program) : http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/mysqldump.html
<5> will[werk]: thanks
<4> will[werk]: i tried "mysql -u root -pblah show databases;" gave me an error
<2> What error?
<7> -e "show databases"
<3> mysql -e "show databases"
<7> ow!
<4> thank you
<4> is there a way to turn off the borders?
<2> mysql --help
<3> mysql -s --skip-column-names -e "show databases"
<5> will[werk]: is it possible to do incremental dumps?
<2> Nope
<5> darn
<2> You could backup the binary log.
<2> !m dereks binary log
<6> dereks: (The Binary Log) : http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/Binary_log.html
<2> could/should...
<5> heh
<5> i wanted to do hourly backups, so i will have ot look into this i guess
<2> How about replication?

<5> what is that?
<2> !m dereks replication
<5> like just replicate it to another server?
<6> dereks: (Replication in MySQL) : http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/Replication.html
<2> Yeah
<8> dereks: how much data are you dealing with?
<5> HarrisonF: the dbs should become generally stay at around 60mb
<9> Hey, is there any way to connect to a remote mysqld with skip-networking enabled? Some kind of ssh forwarding magic or something?
<5> will[werk]: i didn't want to get another server involved
<2> dereks: How are you going to do the backup?
<10> baf64: nope, unix sockets have nothing to do with IP
<5> will[werk]: haven't figured that out yet :)
<2> [BAF64]: No. Switch to bind-address
<9> hmm
<8> dereks: with such small amounts of data, i would most likely do a full backup all of the time
<2> dereks: Well, if the backups are on the same computer, and that computer crashes, what are you going to do?
<9> will[werk], bind-address=127.0.0.1 ?
<11> HarrisonF: Got it working, thanks again!
<5> will[werk]: i am not worried about it crashing, i rsync to another computer nightly, it is for a personal site that i fubar when playing with it
<5> so it would be easier to do a revert back to then have to think how it used to be
<5> HarrisonF: i will prob do that then :)
<2> Yeah, full mysqldump would be easiest.
<5> what size would you stop that at?
<2> 61MB
<5> haha
<9> will[werk], bind-address=127.0.0.1 ?
<2> I personally would guage it based on how important the data was and how fast it needs to be recovered. It could be 500MB and I still would do a fulldump if it was for something not important. If I had 20MB of something very important, I'd replicate it, dump it, etc.
<0> yes, baf
<2> [BAF64]: Yeah
<9> with skip-networking?
<0> no, lose skip-networking
<0> replace with bind-address=127.0.0.1
<9> okay
<9> and that wlil limit it to localhost/pipe-over-ssh stuff?
<8> dereks: a couple gigs-ish, it depends on some other things too
<2> [BAF64]: Yes.
<9> cool
<9> thanks
<2> Try it, of course.
<2> Test it
<5> i am going to play around :)
<5> thanks
<12> hey does mysql AB use mingGw to cross compile for windows binaries?
<12> or how do they create the windows binaries?
<8> visual studio
<8> i think we use cmake now iirc
