<0> folks does anyone knows a site with good exercises of logic? First other logic to be more specific <1> http://www.cs.toronto.edu/~hehner/aPToP/ has exercises at the end of the book. <0> thanks a lot <1> Part D. Chapter 10. Exercises 0-32 are propositional logic. Exercises 55-93 contains first-order logic and some other stuff you can ignore. On the pages at the end there are useful laws. <1> I particularly like exercise 75 "the people you know are those known by all who know all whom you know" <2> Is that an english exercise? <3> seems like logicians cant communicate properly... <0> monochrom, I liked it but I was looking for something more simple like proving equivalences c -> a = c v a <3> Frederick: just write the truth tables out :P <4> Fredric: that is a definition <5> not necessarily <1> Exercises 0-32 are about those. <0> Manyfold, I mean I want soemthing already "formalized" I don't want to start from a sentencel like If it is cold it will rain... <3> Manyfold: yes you can define c -->a by a truth table <1> You will surely find some simple exercises among the collection. <6> Hello.
<0> does any of you know the book logic in computer science? <4> http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/3540942580/028-5607791-7251729?v=glance&n=299956 <4> i used this perhaps it will work for you too <0> I wish I could buy it <0> 1 I don't have an international card 2 my money values nothing <7> % Integrate[(x^4)/(x^4-1),x] <8> genoobie: x - ArcTan[x]/2 + Log[-1 + x]/4 - Log[1 + x]/4 <1> Exercises 2(a)-(y) are all of the form you say you want. <4> well i don't have a credit card too <7> % (x^4)/(x^4-1) //Apart <8> genoobie: 1 + 1/(4*(-1 + x)) - 1/(4*(1 + x)) - 1/(2*(1 + x^2)) <1> Sigh do people ever investigate before they complain. <1> Or is it just a way to get other people to do the search for you. <0> monochrom, I know but <0> call down :) <4> calm <0> those are too easy :P <1> "I am on Windows and I need a calculator." "Yes it has one. Explore the stuff under the Start button and you'll find one." "The Start button doesn't calculate for me." <9> haha <6> lol <9> "It's not working! Also, could you tell me why when I move the mouse up and down, my cursor moves left and right?" <6> wow, someone's been hacked <1> Cale you should seriously let me ban those people. <7> damn...I'm still not getting documents.wolfram.com <9> Dacicus: Heh, no, the ***umption is that they're holding it wrong :) <6> oh <5> why not just use /ignore? <9> but yeah, so long as someone isn't really harming the usability of the channel, don't worry too much about it :) <7> man....any high school math teachers here? <1> They are clearly not stupid. They are acting either dumb ("I'm still lost") or provocative ("this thing ****s") to get you to work for them. They are very, very clever. <10> Cale: can u recommend a good discrete math book ? that covers the various topics including graphs and generating functions along with examples :P <6> genoobie: Just ask. There are people here who probably know more. <7> if you ever want to hear the absolute laziest bunch of whiners that start complaining before they walk into your cl***, come to my room <1> And it does harm the usability of the channel when someone says "so you don't know, you ****". <9> Copter: Jackson's course notes for C&O 249 and 330 from Waterloo :) <11> genoobie : Are you ***uming that they owe you work ? <10> is it worldwide famous book? <9> Copter: No, but it should be -- I'm half joking because it's not widely available. <7> Olathe well that's one's "job" in high school isn't it? <5> are any mathematics books world-famous? <11> genoobie : Well, did they choose that or are they sort of forced into it ? <9> _llll_: sure, everyone knows what "Rudin" is. <7> otherwise they could go out and sweep chimneys for a living... <1> The Elements, by Euclid. <7> Olathe yeah because doing math is so much worse than cleaning toilets :) <1> Principia Mathematica Philosophae Naturalis, by Newton. <12> Principia Mathematica, by Russell and Whitehead :D <11> genoobie : So, the only two options are cleaning toilets or doing math for you ? <1> You even see a copy in the movie Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow. <9> Lang's Algebra <5> i didnt even know what rudin was before i satred hanging out in here <10> i have 1 week to be super prepared for the second chance discrete math exam. <7> pretty much :) <13> what's rudin? :_ <4> Cale: i don't know rudin <10> i cant fail no matter what or its over for me :P <5> i doubt many of my friends would know any of th ebooks mentione dso far <13> Copter: read your lecture notes : <9> Manyfold: it's an analysis book that people rave about <10> JohnFlux: I already did :P
<9> Personally, I find it a bit dry, but lots of people love it. <10> JohnFlux: I also did past exams of the last 5 years <10> JohnFlux: but I keep getting surprised over and over :( <13> Copter: did you get the answers right? :P <7> how to solve it is pretty popular <13> Copter: ah, a pebkac problem <4> Cale: wait real and complex analysis ? <9> _llll_: but are your friends in mathematics? <9> Manyfold: real, mostly <10> a pebkac? :p <7> Olathe are you a high school student? <11> genoobie : Nope. <7> college? <5> Cale: well ok so my friends who are/were mathematicians would know all those books, but i doubt anyone else would <11> genoobie : Yes. <4> begins with the sentence : In this book I present an analysis course which I have taught to first- <4> year graduate students at the University of Wisconsin since 1962. <13> Copter: Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair :) <9> http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/007054235X/102-5594637-0426517?v=glance&n=283155 <4> is it the book? <11> genoobie : I remember high school, though, where I was sort of forced by my parents to go. <7> well...granted it's not an ideal learning environment <10> JohnFlux: I guess it comes from the fact that I dont truly hardcore understand the materil :P <9> _llll_: Yeah, well, most people don't even have a decent idea of what mathematics is, let alone have enough interest to know the names of mathematicians and good books on it. <10> material* <11> genoobie : Since I didn't choose to go there, why would I be expected to perform or refrain from complaints ? <10> aka all the proofs behind each statment <4> i only have this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0070542341/ref=pd_sim_b_1/102-2195199-1336935?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=283155 <7> however, your parents could have forced you to say...go to work instead, no? <5> in fact i was talking to someone this evening who studies economics, and she was slightly surprised that mathematics wasnt just statistics <11> genoobie : They could have, sure, but that wasn't the case. <7> or they could have forced you to do any number of things...must've been awful with the gun pointed to your head and all <13> _llll_: i was surprised that I was forced to study statistics in my math cl***es <7> :) <5> i know no statistics <11> genoobie : Are you suggesting that parents don't use violence to keep children in line ? <7> Olathe, are you always so literal? :) <9> _llll_: I know some statistics, but what I know has measure zero in the set of statistics. <11> genoobie : It's important, if you're trying to figure out the truth of a situation. <5> hehe <5> someone should do a talk on "stats for dummies" sometime <7> Olathe are you saying that the truth can be known? <11> genoobie : I understand that you might be frustrated with the situation. However, the bad parts may not be caused by the children. <9> _llll_: Someone should do a stats for mathematicians. <11> genoobie : So, to determine what the cause is, you have to look at the facts of the situation. <4> Cale: which text book di you use for Group theory? <4> did <12> I would pay for a book that did stats for maths <7> Olathe listen, no offense buddy, but I teach in an inner city school where kids really do bring guns to school... <9> _llll_: I really wish there'd been an intro to stats course at my uni that had measure theory as a prereq. <11> genoobie : Perhaps, but that doesn't mean they want to be there. <9> Manyfold: Gallian <5> i know no measure theory either <6> What's measure theory? <5> but that one, i am not too fussed about <7> Olathe no that's true, in fact none of them want to be there <9> Manyfold: which is *okay*, but it's not amazing or anything <7> or very few that is <7> it's largely a ploy by the state and city to keep the streets free of teenagers who are borderline felons <11> genoobie : That may be a bad situation that leads you to anger because your kids don't want to learn and you want them to, but the cause might not be the children, since they're forced into it. <7> I'm not saying the cause is necessarily the children <7> :) <11> genoobie : Alright. <7> I suggested that they were the laziest bunch of good for nothing whiners...:) <7> well Olathe, why are you attending university? <11> Well, perhaps, but in that situation, laziness and complaining wouldn't necessarily be bad traits. <11> I want to get a degree and I'm getting paid to go. <7> yes, but why the degree? <7> is it even necessary? <9> I did a pure mathematics degree because I love mathematics. <11> It leads to better opportunities, usually. <7> you could get paid to do other things...yes but necessarily? <14> Awesome Cale, I'm on the same road :D <12> I guess everyone can't love mathematics for mathematics' sake :(
