<0> Can someone help me out reconstructing a seven drive Linear LVM1, that has lost two drives ?
<1> what's a linear lvm? a stripe?
<2> yes
<0> yep
<1> Why can't you rebuild it the way you built it to begin with?
<3> I thought you could only lose 1 drive in that setup.
<1> You can't lose any in that setup.
<1> You lose 1 and that's it, it's gone, start over.
<1> raid0
<3> excellent. complete destruction.
<1> 0 meaning none
<0> i really don't care that much about the data, the problem i have is i just want to fsck the damn drive and recover what fragments i have
<1> you can't
<1> there is no recovery at all
<1> none
<1> it's a stripe

<1> there are no "fragments" to recover
<1> at least not any meaninful fragments
<0> well, there is since, i can read some data in hex just fine
<1> It's an exercise in mental *********ion
<1> say your stripe size was 3k
<1> and you have 7 disks
<0> i just need to put some zeroes where the old drives were
<4> Hmmm, is 'simplex' a synonym for 'asynchronous' ? I think it is
<1> you can't do that
<1> Anyway, feel free to beat you head on it for a few hours. It will all eventually become plain and enlightenment will be attained. ;-)
<5> Hmmmm
<0> i can do whole a lot, and I have and have come closer than before, I can get iit to see the pv, just need to get the uuid set straight
<0> gdb: got anything useful to say
<5> Hmmm, is 'simplex' a synonym for 'asynchronous' ? I think it is
<5> The dictionary doesn't say it is
<3> then perhaps it isn't.
<5> hugenerd: Are Ebooks on CRTs practical ?
<3> or more importantly... do I care?
<5> hugenerd: I've read Ebooks on CRTs before but I dont' believe I've actually finished one to the end yet entirely
<5> hugenerd: On which question ?
<3> excellent. keep up the good work.
<5> hugenerd: Are you referring
<3> any and all.
<5> Are Ebooks on CRTs practical ?
<3> Tendra, ask in #uselessquestions. they'll know for sure.
<6> hugenerd: that's too busy, he wont get a reply probably
<3> spike, he just has to wait his turn.
<5> hugenerd: Yes, it's so useless that if reading ebooks on CRTs were practical then no one would ever have to ask a question in here again you freaking moron
<3> oh thats not nice
<5> hugenerd: You're one dumb mother****er for a nerd
<3> here I was playing all easy.
<3> ok. bye.
<6> it's sad ppl cant play fair anymore
<3> yup
<7> Hello, I'm looking for a win32 build of rsync, and I found a few packages, but non of them seem to support connecting to a remote pc via ssh, is there a windows tool which uses rsync in the background or simply a working rsync binary with ssh support?
<6> TimothyP: cygwin?
<7> does cygwin support xcopy deployment ? ie. I drop it in a folder and from that folder I'll be able to run rsync and access any folder on the windows filesystem (to which the current user has access of course) ?
<7> I just love the idea behind rscync and want to use it as default backup for the windows client computers
<8> Anyone else notice a bug in tar and du? where --exclude and -X no longer work?
<6> reind: I dont think tar and du code has been touched in ages... I definitely doubt something "stopped" to work
<7> the version I downloaded before uses the cygwin dll but doesn't work with ssh, gives protocol error
<9> any webdav people here? (im getting a internal 500 server error trying to access data on a webdav share)
<7> spike, the cygwin install seems to do the trick :) now all I need to do is to check if I can xcopy it :p, thnx
<8> spike well du --exclude=PATTERN doesnt work on one box but does work on another. exact same syntax. What coul dbe the problem?
<8> du -sk /home/reind/ --exclude="/home/reind" <--- doesnt work :-/ any ideas?
<8> # du -sk /home/reind -X temp with temp having /home/reind also doesnt work. it still does NOT skip /home/reind. Does this mean there is something with du or something else?
<9> i have a tape drive with a tape loader that was appearing fine using a different scsi controller, with the new one, the tape drive appears under /dev/st0 but the tape changer does not show under /dev/sg*
<10> anyone here have experience setting up a linux router?
<6> blaylock: someone has
<9> blaylock, dont ask to ask just ask
<11> guys how can I
<11> save my console output?
<12> i bought a webcam logitech express, but when i trie to acess the device /dev/video0 with xawtv computer freezes and then i need to reboot, anyone knows how to solve this problem ?
<10> ok, how does one set up the routing tables to forward traffic
<10> like i have two nics, one goes out to the internet, the other goes to my local net
<6> forevert1euni: with a camera
<11> blaylock: what do you want to do?
<11> spike: no too fast
<11> spike: to fast to read
<10> but i can only ping out from the router box

<10> all my other systems can see the router, but not get out to the net
<6> forevert1euni: those showing console videos generally used xen/qemu/vmware and recorded the session
<11> blaylock: do to netfilter.org and search the NAT section in howto
<10> hmm
<11> blaylock: masquerading
<10> thanks forevert1euni
<6> forevert1euni: mostly latter, vmware 5.5 have a very cool recording feature that would turn anything into a nice mpg
<6> even with audio :)
<11> spike: oh....even the fastest ones?
<11> guess I'll use vmware in windows
<11> to go to my linux
<11> spike: ok tnx
<11> good idea
<13> Anyone know how to make a PDF from 2 jpg images from the command line?
<14> latex
<14> guess that would do it anyway
<14> but nah, I don't know a simple command off the top of my head. sorry
<6> JW: man convert
<10> JW, http://www.davince.com/docs/jpeg2pdf.html
<13> thanks
<6> 44
<15> The problem with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt
<15> Hence my question about "Ebooks on CRTs being practical" before 'hugenerd' flamed me
<15> I've read parts Ebooks on CRTs before but that doesn't mean I would be totally sure it was altogether "practical"
<14> while I'll agree with the first part. I'd still tend to kinda agree that it's a useless question.
<14> I mean ebooks? books you find online? on crts? so manuals? why wouldn't it be useful if it's the manual for the particular monitor you happen to own?
<16> Can you simultanteously store output from stdout and stderr?
<17> Fructose: >> filename 2>&1 # append to end of file
<17> Fructose: >> filename 2>&1 # append to end of filename
<16> Err, sorry, I don't want to put them both in the same file
<16> I want stdout to go to one and stderr to another
<17> Fructose: ok, wasnt wearing my psychic helmet, ok, now, ask again ;)
<15> Mathman: Uh, Ebooks as in actual full length books like on would find in the library only in a computer format
<15> Mathman: Mister rocket scientist
<15> Mathman: Did you see Emanual anywhere ?
<18> is there _some_ way to enforce that multiple threads that wait on a mutex/signal are awakened in the same order as they put themselves on wait?
<15> Mathman: manuals are obviously much more practical on a CRT IMHO
<14> rakushun: well disregarding the legality here, wouldn't you be the only one that's going to decide whether or not it's useful. I mean, if you want to learn about crts then it's useful. if not, then forget it. either way I'd still say it's a rather silly question to ask.
<16> gnubien: Do you know of a way to do it?
<15> Mathman: No because anything can be the case or not the case while everything else remains the same (regard myself being the only one who decides whether it's usefull or not)
<15> Mathman: My situation is only one state of affairs and the totality of all states of affairs is the world
<14> right...
<17> Fructose: maybe ./script >> filename 2>&1 then another script to mover all the lines in filename with "error" in them to filename.err
<16> I need it to be a single bash command
<15> s/regard/regarding/g
<17> Fructose: your quextion has been asked many times in #bash with no elegant 1 line solution iirc
<15> Mathman: That's it's a useless question is an absurd proposition -- it's either efficiently practial, medicore in practicality or not very practical or desirable at all
<19> Mathman: Hmm, English isn't my primary language so it seems I've butchered it some in here
<19> :P
<19> Mathman: I'm just trying to figure out whether the problem or potential problem is actually psychological or phyiscal in a cognitive and concrete objective way (Ebooks on CRTs)
<19> *physical rather
<19> Mathman: Imagine you're a newcomer to the magical world of ebooks. You've seen the term in the press, and you notice that both Barnes & Noble and Amazon have ebooks listed on their websites. You decide to check it out. Quickly you discover that the dominant two formats sold commercially, from Microsoft and Adobe, can only be read on a PC running Windows. And suddenly, any adventurous enthusiasm you may have had for the concept of digi
<19> Mathman: So it would seem to be psychological primarily in nature
<19> s/starting/staring/g
<19> I'm a pro at butchering the English language
<19> Mathman: All of my ebooks can be read on Linux or BSD though
<19> chm can be handled by xchm etc.. so on so forth
<15> Mathman: Still just because chm and pdf formats can be read on linux and BSD doesn't mean there aren't other commercial formats from Adobe and Microsoft that cannot
<15> Mathman: I think you lack sufficient self respect as to not advance absurdities
<15> Mathman: Your propositions verge on ridiculous
<15> Adobe PS as well etc..
<20> when I exit X (goto shell) my laptop screen goes black with strange pixels, any ideas?
<15> Mathman: Ebooks are plenty practical for me on CRTS and beyond but I'm talking about the general public
<15> :P
<15> MIKEMAN: Depends
<20> rak> I dont remember changing res or anything, do you know which file to edit for bootup res on dsl?
<20> rak> I did a frugal install
<15> MIKEMAN: Why would you drop out of X just to get a shell anyway ? There is keydinbing (at least in XFree86 not sure about Xorg) that can drop to shell with X still running as a process in the background or one could just use GNU screen or various terminals .....
<20> rak> its just bothering me, for example... reboot=garble (black screed with pixels not readable)
<20> rak> startup is fine tho
<17> MIKEMAN: grub or lilo?
<20> grub> its grub
<20> grub> it is a notebook (dell)
<17> MIKEMAN: man grub search for vga settings and char size
