<0> i have a problem <0> im trying to compile agp and i2c support into my kernel but they arent available to select... they are just double dashed "--" <0> what do i need to enable to let me choose them as options <1> modules? <0> either <1> I'm saying, you maybe need to enable modules? <0> i have other modules compiled... <1> I see. <0> they are double dashed which prolly means they are dependant on soemthing else being enabled <0> but i dunno wha <1> yeah. I dunno. that's why I like to start with a working config and go backwards from there. <1> vanilla kernel? the config that ships with the kernel might have that stuff enabled. <2> hi <2> hi channel :DF
<2> :D <2> anyone can readme...? <1> lol <3> what is a good site for getting detail about how linux interacts with a USB storage device such as an mp3 player? <1> longbean: dunno. interacts as in how the usb storage module actually works? or as in you just want to know how to load the module, mount the device, that sorta thing? <3> well, i've got a device where the filesystem has been corrupted, and simply trying to delete the files gives me a "can't delete file" error, so i'm trying to figure out exactly what's going on... <3> it's a little complicated <3> personally i'd like to just format the whole thing, but i'm not sure if it's that simply <3> *simple <4> Anyone tried using an ipod with linux ? <5> more than one is running ipodlinux on his ipod <1> muteW: not me, but I figure gtkpod or whatever would be one place to start <6> muteW: http://entertainment.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=06/04/13/165223&from=rss <4> Just wondering if it works ok as a portable HD with nix .. <7> /bin/sh /etc/rc.d/rc.cups starrt|stop works no matter the state of the execute bit. <8> gm142: you are executing /bin/sh, it just interprets /etc/rc.d/rc.cups <9> hello <8> Hi angustia <9> how do I make my partitions mount on startup in a way that every user can read/write to them? I have done man fstab, and I've been having this problem for a very long time, and pretty much think I will be unable to discover on my own how to do it. <8> What filesystem are on those partitions? <10> angustia: I remember having the same problem with my fat partitions. Alas, I can't remember how I solved it :) <9> fat32 partitions. on ntfs I only need read permission, not write. <9> but thats not the problem. the issue i'm having is not being able to let normal users read the files. I used to get it working if the user umount'd and mount'd the fs again <11> hey guys.. I need a live distro that has support for alot of nics, scsi cards, etc.. out of the box.. what I want it for is to test my old hardware (cleaning up my computer room).. any sggestions? <9> but I don't want that. I want to be able to let the boot script mount it and any user access it <12> I just hooked up my USB -> IDE cable for the first time. I plugged in a brand new hard drive. I am trying to find the location of the drive to mount it, but no luck. lsusb shows Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000. I usually see something like sda1 in the logs but I don't see anything. Any ideas? <5> Bradd: knoppix <11> spike,, do you know offhand if knoppix has some sort of hard drive testing app included with it? <5> foo: new drive, unpartitioned, no sda1 in the logs of course. see fdik /dev/sda what gives you <12> spike: hah, right. <12> Unable to open /dev/sda <12> hmm <8> angustia: defaults,umask=000 should give everyone read/write i <13> does the scsi bios see it? <13> oh it is usb. sorry <12> hehe, one sec. The help says I need to put this drive on slave before I use it apparently. <14> foo: do you have usb_storage and scsi disk support in the kernel? <12> Zider: yes, usb_storage and scsi_mod <12> Bah, it was already on cable select. Hmm, Just unplugged and replugged, nothing in logs at all. Weird <12> The little manual says to put the drive in slave, but I don't see a slave option for the jumper settings on this hard drive. hmm <14> foo: scsi_mod? I thought it was called sd.. <12> Zider: hmm, I might not. This is a laptop, maybe I need to modprobe it? Hmm, scsi_sd ? <14> foo: modprobe sd I think <12> hmm, not found. <12> laptop:/mnt# lsmod | grep sd <12> sd_mod 16208 0 <12> scsi_mod 122220 2 usb_storage,sd_mod <14> ah, sd_mod <12> yeah, bah. Shoot. Any more ideas? This manual does say to partition and format the drive before use. I thought I could do that via this cable, though. <14> no idea.. :/ <12> thanks anyways. hmm <12> The manual says to put the drive in slave mode, but I don't see that jumper setting on here <12> Ah, I think I got it. Apr 14 11:13:54 localhost kernel: scsi2 : SCSI emulation for USB M*** Storage device ... that's sda2, right? I do fdisk -l /dev/sda2 and it shows nothing. I think I got it, hmm. <14> foo: why would that be sda2? <12> bah, I don't know. I don't think it is. I tried cfdisk /dev/sda2 and it said it couldn't read the drive. <12> Apr 14 11:15:03 localhost kernel: 2:0:0:0: scsi: Device offlined - not ready after error recovery
<12> hmm <14> foo: sda2 is the second partition on the first scsi disk <14> foo: sda is what you want to try fdisk on <12> oh, hahha. <12> Yeah, you're right. <15> Anyone here know of any good cell phones that run Linux <12> err, cfdisk /dev/sda and /dev/sdb doesn't go. Any other ideas? Hmm <9> umask=000, got it <14> foo: dmesg should give an output that it found sda <6> foo: dmesg should show its location at the end <12> scsi3 : SCSI emulation for USB M*** Storage devices <12> usb-storage: device found at 14 <12> usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning <12> usb 1-1: reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 14 <12> hmm, weird <12> usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -110 <6> foo: replug and dmesg again <12> http://pastebin.com/660027 <12> inv_arp[work]: ^^ <12> inv_arp[work]: Any ideas? Kind of strange. I wonder if it's because the drive isn't formatted. <6> foo: paste lsmod also <6> pastbin that is <12> http://notix.ath.cx:81/temp/lsmod.txt <12> inv_arp[work]: Not pastebin, I know... I have a web server on this network. It was just easier. hehe <3> hm...so if i delete the partition on the mp3 player it should byp*** all those files listed as "?zr&k???.?e?" or similar which refuse to be deleted, i then can create a new vfat partition. but what does that do to the firmware? it's an iriver T10 <12> inv_arp[work]: I am pretty sure I have the right modules loaded. Thanks for checking <6> foo: yep... hmmm <12> inv_arp[work]: This little one paper manual says to just make sure the hard drive is in slave, make sure it has power before I plug it in the computer, and make sure it is partitioned and formatted before using it. I have only given it power before plugging in ... there is no slave jumper setting on this drive, and it is not formatted / partition. I don't know if that's it or not <16> what do you guys think of this tutorial/page/something that I just wrote on dual monitors with x.org? <16> http://toba.ath.cx:724/dualhead.html <16> I don't want to publish bull**** info, and I want to make sure what I said is all true before I link it to the rest of my site <12> inv_arp[work]: Any ideas? Hmm <17> is there any way to get out of LVM mode on a server? and back to normal? <18> hey guys.. is there a way to scan a hd for io errors? <12> Bradd_br: badblocks <18> ok, I'll check in a sec to see if knoppix has it.. <18> thanks <19> O_O <5> and I dropped the hd again while it was running :D <5> tnx god it was going over some already damaged sectors, so it's not bad than before, eheh <20> good evening <21> toba, maybe title should be dual monitors w/radion7k, xorg and xinerama <22> how can I know what software is listening on some open ports on my system ? <18> hi.. can I install a base knoppix onto hd (no X11) which will scan hardware like the live version does? <22> I listed the ports using netstat -lnvt <22> there are some ports that I don't know about <22> found it , thx <6> Bradd_br: yep.. think they explain on their site <18> thanks inv_arp[work] ,, gonna go look now <15> I am tryign to get SSH keys setup but it does not seem to work. It always asks for a p***word. Can someone look at this output from SSH http://pastebin.com/660168. I am running ssh -i id_dsa.pub -v hostname <23> cyrus__: do a google search for 'authorized_keys2' <15> Blis*** - I have multiple times. Followed all the instructions they outline but it still doesn't work <24> cyrus__: your remote host's .ssh/* might have bad perms <24> check sshd log messages on the remote side <23> cyrus__: then perhaps you have disabled key logins in '/etc/ssh/sshd_config'. Or whatever. Try 'ssh -v -v' to see what happend <15> awrit|wrk - I have checked all those permissions <24> cyrus__: are they all 600? <15> awkrit|wrk - yes <24> oh <24> this amuses me, btw. so far you've called me awrit and awkrit <24> i was wondering why xchat didn't highlight <5> bah, anybody with a clue about device mapper and what this could be? ioctl(3, DM_VERSION, 0x80bb108) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied) <12> I am trying to get usbmount or autofs to auto mount anything I plug (USB) in in /mnt ... but I installed them both and I don't see things showing up. Any ideas? <16> stray_: better? <25> Hi, I want to edit an avi file using kino but when I open the file I got this message: "The playlist is empty and the default preferences for video creation have not been specified - aborting.
