I have been in here about 6 times, and I still cannot get my Ubuntu installation to dual boot with WinXP. Basically, it goes like this: I install Ubuntu, it says it detects WinXP and asks if I want to install to MBR, I say yes, and reboot, and GRUB is not there. I posted some screenshots, tons of information, etc, on the problem here, but no one has been able to solve my issue yet: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread <9> .php?t=179908 -- Help would be GREATLY appreciated. It has been about a week trying to get Ubuntu to work alongside Windows now. <6> thanks...i got tired of searching hundreds of files for errors when the line number and file was right there on the screen <9> ( http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread <9> .php?t=179908 ) <9> http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=17990 <9> there <9> (sorry) <0> earHertz: cat file | perl -e 'while (<>) {push(@lines, $_);} $c = $#lines; while ($c >= 0 ) { print $lines[$c];$c--; };' <8> perl -e 'print reverse <>' < input <10> Hi, I am trying to setup a default IP using dhclient.conf, I have done this http://pastebin.com/734240, but this isn't working. What am I doing wrong? <8> shift8: (I found that on the web)
<0> earHertz: heh - nice :) <8> but thanks for your help <0> earHertz: np - just buildn' my woofie <11> hello <11> how do I use USB camera? <11> I plugged it in (logitech - damn!) what next? <0> oh, damn. <0> raf256: do you know what dmesg is? <11> shift8: yes, I see it in dmesg <11> but it looks like it was detected as.. audio device (wtf) <12> does anyone here develop with qt3? <13> Yes. <11> http://cpp.sourceforge.net/?show=16031 <-- how to use that camera? <0> raf256: try gphoto <12> freeone3000, yes to me? <11> shift8: no gphoto in debian <11> I have gtkam though <11> An error occurred in the io-library ('Bad parameters'): Could not find USB device (vendor 0x919, product 0x100). Make sure this device is connected to the computer. <0> raf256: if your camera is on this list, you're all set. http://gphoto.org/proj/libgphoto2/support.php <0> raf256: you can build it, no? <6> awesome... monospace 9 font .... whoo hoo <0> headmonkey: sounds like a neat ide - you should release it <6> goodbye gedit ! you did your job....up until you started to **** <11> damn it is not on the list <11> so linux can not use it then? <0> the svn repo for gphoto has more supported... <6> shift8, its part of a larger project atm, but yes, i will probably release it when the bugs are squashed <6> shift8, its a C only ide only atm. <0> headmonkey: nothing wrong w/ that. sometimes a floor topping sould just be a floor topping :) <6> yeah...the highlighting bits work on most languages, thanks to the widget & gnome/gtk, but the compiler wrapper is geared towards c <6> and since it just reached useable status, i'll be adding all the bits that make programming easier <6> i still need a gdb wrapper, only have the gcc one <11> shift8: it seems I have to build a kernel <11> shift8: http://packages.debian.org/unstable/misc/spca5xx-sou <14> look: Microsoft have just invented rlogin/ssh: http://v3.espacenet.com/textdes?DB=EPODOC&IDX=MXPA05006622&F=0&QPN=MXPA05006622 <0> raf256: not too difficult, just a bit time consuming. good luck! <14> and are the first to ever do so <0> prior art that ****. <14> they have over a hundred patents in the last few months <14> i couldnt see any that were original ideas <6> any bets microsoft tries to systematically patent all the pieces of linux one at a time <14> or patent everythng. they claim the rights over http, hyperlinks, navigating hyperlinks, using a keyboard to navigate hyperlinks <2> i heared some rumors <2> about 1 big conspirecy <6> they might be awarded the patents, but they wont be able to enforce them <2> and bush and bill where involved <6> they are involved in the same conspiracy we all are....the make money conspiracy <0> headmonkey: that's right - invalidation at enforcement time :) <14> alas some of us europeans have a more fair since of business. <15> eep. <2> where is the big discussion <16> how do I tell grub to automatically boot a non-default OS on the next reboot? <2> im still waiting for it to burst out <17> rickest: what's a "non-default OS"? <16> mjbjr: like 'lilo -R' <16> mjbjr: grub lists OS choices, I want it to automatically boot one of the non-default options <16> I had a one-line script for this but lost it on install of new distro <17> AFAIK, grub auto boots the first on the list, unless the user intervenes by choosing another... correct? <16> mjbjr: by default, yes. but there's something you can do to tell it to skpi that menu and boot one of the choices automatically <17> ah <18> any of you know how to tell what speed the nic is running at? I did "ifconfig" but I don't see anything that i'm looking for <19> easytiger, microsoft won't be able to do anything with those sorts of rediculous patents <19> let them try it <19> good luck to them, lol <20> lo_tek: they have enough money for lawyers, that the don't have to sue with intent to win <20> they can bankrupt nearly any one who opposes them except IBM and some of the big Linux players <19> so microsoft can sue me and millions of others, good luck to them, lol <2> im a lawyer <2> anyone need my help? <20> they may do so <0> mjbjr: there is a keyword 'default=' in the grub.conf. it's 0 indexed, and will boot whichever you point it to first. <20> they are after given corporate suits reasons not to switch to Linux, remember? <19> and what about players like yahoo and google? <19> i guess they don't have any money to help out
