<martian67> also login needs to be spawned by the sh that is spawned by init
<kokoko1> Dagmar, and this guy give this solution
<theUg> Sneaky_Bastard, and as Dagmar said, there is no solution. That means when time comes, linux will be attacked as well. Endless game, innit?
<Dagmar> kokoko1: the answer's proabbly going to be "nuke and recreate the cache dir" but gimme a moment to look
<kokoko1> http://www.squid-cache.org/mail-archive/squid-users/200410/0385.html
<not_root> martian67, but! they have to be able to log in. it's kind of intended that they can do what they want once they're in, xterms and such.. I just want some basic info available before then :P
<Spounk> mm
<martian67> so it needs to be opened by the lowest level sh
<martian67> witch x anit
<nima> weekends are too short
<martian67> not_root, login wont run in x
<Dagmar> Sneaky_Bastard: Okay, I think it's only fair that it's now my turn to remind you that he's just a troll and the only real point he has is the one atop his head.
<kokoko1> Dagmar, Nope, he perhaps he suggested of removing swap.state file and rerun squid
<Dagmar> kokoko1: Are you trying to run multiple instances of squid using the same cache directory or something?
<theUg> Sneaky_Bastard, and I am all for open standards, and open technologies, for it is economically viable.
<kokoko1> Dagmar, no
<Dagmar> kokoko1: You don't have to stop there. Just blow away the entire cachedir (unless you're just that picky about temporary data) and run squid -z to set the stuff back up. Takes about a minute, tops
<martian67> not_root, if your up to it
<Sneaky_Bastard> Dagmar: well, if he were a pencil, he might be useful
<martian67> i sugest hacking on xdm
<theUg> Dagmar, and I see that that being your only arguement. Very proficient.
<Spounk> Dagmar: yo mean yournt a troll ?`.. crazy troll
<martian67> if you want fetures like that
<kokoko1> Dagmar, after removing swap.stat file and restarting squid, now i only getting TCP_MISS
<Dagmar> kokoko1: I don't bother trying to sort out what exactly has gone wrong with squid's cache when I can fix it faster than I can diagnose it
<Dagmar> kokoko1: Yeah, you blew away what it was using to track which files it actually has
<martian67> Dagmar, you can even scriptize it
<Sneaky_Bastard> spounk: dagmar has very good linux help/advice in here when he's not fending off the MSCE morons
<Spounk> Dagmar: you know jack **** dumb***
<martian67> squid.sh rebuild
<martian67> :)
<kokoko1> Dagmar, no dear i dont' wana loose my 80 gb of cache
<Sneaky_Bastard> sure he knows jack ****, you are easy to recognize
<not_root> martian67, thanx
<not_root> kokoko1, are you a female ?
<martian67> not_root, i just dont think what you want to do is fesable
<martian67> not_root, but you can try :)
<Dagmar> kokoko1: Lemme say this one more time... Delete the cache directory entirely and run squid with -z to reinit it, just like in the howto for setting up squid the first time. Then you KNOW it will be fixored. Squid doesn't have a mechanism to repair destroyed indexes (because that's basically impossible)
<jrhodes> not_root: there are no females on the internet
<kokoko1> not_root, yeah with 7" penis
<not_root> jrhodes, lol
<martian67> not_root, and good on you if you make it work :)
<Sneaky_Bastard> ah, so you *did* switch your host mask
<Dagmar> WTF is it Hot Moron Night in Sweden or something?
<Sneaky_Bastard> well, I'll just ignore all of Telia this time, I guess
<Sneaky_Bastard> either that or he recruited a friend, I care not
<kokoko1> Dagmar, then why the guy in squid mailing list suggested the other solution?
<martian67> Dagmar WTF is it Hot Moron Night in Sweden or something? << i belive today.. being bushes birthday has been designated international day of morons
<martian67> :)
<theUg> Sneaky_Bastard, I agree that he has, and I did get good advise from him. But I fail to see how is that I am MSCE moron
<martian67> kokoko1, he is giving you a suggestion
<martian67> if you want to nitpick and argue about his advice
<martian67> piss off
<martian67> why did you ask inb the first place
<kokoko1> martian67, nope but the problem is the same
<PeanutHorst> hi all - what would you all recommend as a good liveCD ?
<Dagmar> kokoko1: Because like you're doing me right now, he didn't have anything else to suggest that you weren't refusing to do
<PeanutHorst> or possibly a good Distro of Linux to go side-by-side with my CentOS install?
<martian67> PeanutHorst, there is the old standby Knoppix
<martian67> PeanutHorst, Slax is quite good aswell
<Dagmar> martian67: I really need to get an applet to email me about things like that so I can plan in advance
<kokoko1> Dagmar, so removing swap.stat file means == starting with new cache?
<PeanutHorst> martian67, ah yes.... maintained by Dave someone-or-0ther
<martian67> also DSL (damn small linux) is nice for its smallness
<PeanutHorst> martian67, no slack-based.
<kokoko1> squid will not build its index from the objects store in cache ?
<martian67> its about 50 megs
<martian67> PeanutHorst, why?
<Dagmar> kokoko1: As far as I know that's one of the index files it needs. If you wreck that there's no way for it to realistically know what files it's got and what ones it doesn't have
<Sneaky_Bastard> Dagmar: I think all this traffic is just a bunch of MCSE Win-Blows morons trying to prevent linux support from happening in here.
<martian67> Sneaky_Bastard, me you and Dagmar can form the anti-troll comission :)
<Sneaky_Bastard> :D
<Dagmar> Sneaky_Bastard: I think it's just two or three morons who've picked this channel at random and have nothing better to do with their time tonight
<Sneaky_Bastard> just *ordinary* morons ? I would be disappointed :(
<Dagmar> Eventually they're going to grow out of such things
<kokoko1> Dagmar, Thanks
<Lokey> "lost my house, lost my job, lost my car : cocaine"
<theUg> martian67 ay ask you, as a member of this new-found panel, why I am being accusid of Micro$love?
<Lokey> evenin peoples
<kokoko1> I'm trolling ?
<martian67> kokoko1, no one said that
<martian67> Dagmar, nothing is more infurating then people that ask for your help and then argue with you
<kokoko1> Ah Okay
<Dagmar> kokoko1: While it's admirable that ou want to preserve your 80Gb cache, wiping it probably isn't going to affect performance, since from what that mailing list post shows I don't think the cache knows it has anything anymore
<Dagmar> martian67: This is what we call "broken clue removal"
<martian67> :)
<martian67> PeanutHorst,
<martian67> why not a slackware based cd?
<martian67> just out of curiosity
<kokoko1> Dagmar, but its says that for certain objects not for all, which i'm getting in cache.log
<bleenshaker> Dagmar: youre rotten to the core, you know jack ****... go die somewhere we dont dont have to watch your decay
<kokoko1> and the reason seems to me unclean shutdown of cache server
<theUg> haha
<bleenshaker> :)
<martian67> Dagmar, i think they are using their AOL to recruit friends
<Dagmar> kokoko1: Yeah, once it's in operation again, with a little luck it can actually make a note of what things it then doawnloads
<Lokey> i just cant get enough of that Skinny Puppy Protest video
<martian67> >:P
<roblaptop> link?
<martian67> hey Lokey
<theUg> Funny to see, how Dagmar trolls to battle the trolls. Ironic? Sadly so.
<Dagmar> Lokey: I swear I've never seen anything as good as that before
<Lokey> hey martian67
<martian67> want to join our anti-troll commission?
<Lokey> ive seen some kick*** japanese breakdancing videos, but not w. that much kaos
<martian67> current target: Theug
<Lokey> of course martian67
<Dagmar> Lokey: For awhile I was getting quite a number of capoeria films out of Brazil, too
<Lokey> isnt that the brazilian breakdancing / fighting style Dagmar ?
<Dagmar> Lokey: Yep
<PeanutHorst> martian67, because i dislike .tgz
<PeanutHorst> :P
<Lokey> that **** is cool
<Lokey> PeanutHorst: tgz's are fun tho
<PeanutHorst> is there any LiveCD that has KDE on it already?
<Dagmar> Lokey: The thing that makes the video impressive for me is that they used the type of motions that you'd normally see in just plain ol' industrial slam dancing
<theUg> Apparently, I got cought amid warring troll factions.
<martian67> PeanutHorst, lol
<PeanutHorst> KDE 3.5 preferably?
<Lokey> installpkg blah.tgz
<martian67> live cds dont use .tgz :)
<Dagmar> PeanutHorst: Knoppix, dude
<tkup> I have a net setup in a way that host1 is connected via crossover to host2. host2 has also a wireless connection to the AP. the AP is then connected to the cable modem and to the internet. I can ping all host1's interfaces just fine but not IPs on the internet. any reason why this is happening?
<Dagmar> PeanutHorst: I think it was actually the firs KDE LiveCD
<Dagmar> ...or at least the first semi-decently done one I'd seen
<theUg> Knoppix is quite boggling though.
<Dagmar> tkup: Routing madness
<martian67> tkup, is your iptables set up properly
<n00rul> tkup: I think you should check your route table
<Dagmar> tkup: You'll need to answer a lot of questions for this one
<theUg> By the way, is it possible to access local file system with LiveCD?
<martian67> tkup, alot of people will say your name
<martian67> :)
<martian67> theUg, yes... why wouldnt it be?
<kokoko1> Dagmar, http://www.squid-cache.org/mail-archive/squid-users/200302/1055.html
<Dagmar> tkup: Start by focusing on getting the machine with the wireless card to talk to the cablemodem through the AP (or at least be able to detemine for sure that it can get traffic that far)
<theUg> martian67, I used Knoppix and it would not let me get into windows partition
<kokoko1> Dagmar, Henrik is one of the experts and working in company which provides squid solutions
<martian67> theUg, you are doing something wrong then
<martian67> kokoko1, if you dont like his advice
<Dagmar> kokoko1: I fail to see what this has to do with the results of deleting your cache index
<martian67> dont ask for it
<Lokey> sounds like a mounting problem theUg
<Dagmar> Lokey: Probably a user education issue
<theUg> martian67, maybe I did not mount it. :) It ws hard to realise what is going on in a text mode.
<martian67> ntfs has full read and write support in the kernel now
<kokoko1> Dagmar, no in this, they didn't ask to delete the swap.state file
<Lokey> CLI is fairly easy if you have a slight clue
<kokoko1> martian67, something eating you?
<Dagmar> martian67: In theory. I don't exactly trust it
<martian67> i like cli
