<0> mot: thanks, but I have the xorg.conf working, but I got another kicker on the external that don't use the same setup, even though it seems to be the same session
<1> check this out
<1> http://gentoo-wiki.com/Twinview_Example
<2> anyone know how I can convert avit to vob with linux?
<1> that helped me write my own..it has some common mistakes
<3> TabooTeez: Most likely with mencoder
<4> Notably TwinView is a feature of the proprietary nVidia graphics drivers and not a generic solution
<3> vob = dvd?
<1> what kind of gfx card for your have larsivi?
<1> s/for/do
<1> s/your/you
<1> (i'm sick, gimmie a break)
<2> XVampireX: yes
<2> XVampireX: mencoder just converts to mpeg
<0> mot: i915GM (on a laptop)
<2> XVampireX: which is vob techniqualy

<3> I think it converts any format to any other format
<2> XVampireX: not vob =(
<0> but as I said, it's only weirding out in the session config department, the view itself is very good
<3> I have no experience with that though
<3> TabooTeez: www.kde-apps.org
<2> XVampireX: ive been there thanks thow
<0> ah, I guess I'll move over to #kubuntu :)
<0> thanks so far ;)
<5> logixoul, thank you for the link. However, this does not appear to resolve the issue. The problem is that just one icon in Kicker (that's the KDE main menu, right?) is larger than the rest. I must have made a change someone to effect this, possible in system settings, but I can't find it now and was hoping someone had an idea...
<6> aaah
<6> i thought you meant the icons *in* the kmenu
<6> FYI the KDE main menu is called kmenu, not kicker
<5> sorry, didn't describe the problem clearly (either time)
<6> kicker is the panel you may use to open kmenu ;)
<5> kmenu, got it.
<5> that makes sense, as my config file shows definitions for the shortcuts I've placed up there.
<6> mzanfardino: so how would you describe the issue - did all other icons get smaller or did the kmenu one get larger?
<5> logixoul, let me try another way: the list of menus displaying icons when you click on the kmenu button shows all but one icon at the same size. The System icon is double the size of the rest of the icons in the list.
<5> logixoul, there by standing out, and somewhat of an annoyance. Not the end of the world kind, but something I'd like to fix.
<6> ah, i see
<6> have you tried restarting kde?
<5> I've tried to find something in menu editor to accound for the difference, but no good.
<5> logixoul, yep
<6> mzanfardino: a shot in the dark, but try playing around with sizes in kcontrol->appearance->icons->advanced
<7> hi is there any way that I could retrieve the p***word from my kwallet..
<6> sorush20: use kwalletmanager
<7> logixoul: no I have forgotten the p***word and I want to retrieve it
<6> sorush20: yes, this is basically kwalletmanager's purpose
<8> logixoul: no
<6> oh?
<8> he mean the p***word of _the_ wallet
<7> logixoul: I have forgotten the pas
<7> yess pinotree
<6> ah, then it's *for* the wallet :)
<8> sorush20: there's no way
<7> there must be a way
<8> iirc no
<6> sorush20: how long is the p***word?
<8> kwaller is secure ;)
<8> *kwallet
<5> logixoul, well, good news and bad news. The good news is, I somehow manages to get all the icons the same size... the bad news is, they are all now huge...
<6> heh
<6> so what if you change the same setting, to a smaller value
<6> ?
<9> icons on desktop of menus?
<7> logixoul: 9 characters
<6> sorush20: forget it then, bruteforce will take months afaik
<6> antik?
<9> <5> logixoul, well, good news and bad news. The good news is, I somehow manages to get all the icons the same size...
<6> the menu ones
<9> I asked if desktop icons or menu icons are wrong?
<5> antik, menu icons
<9> you should look at your icons directory config file
<5> ataxic, one of the icons (system) is larger than the rest.
<5> antik, sorry, that was ment for you
<9> index.theme file
<6> mzanfardino: "[20:42] <6> so what if you change the same setting, to a smaller value?"
<5> logixoul, I was about to tell you I'd made a few different changes, and the net result is I'm not sure what the hell I changed. I thought it might have something to do with my .kde/share/config/kickerrc file, but the entry I added seems to have disappeared...
<6> mzanfardino: ok, here's something almost certain to work then: in kmenuedit change the icon to a file from the 16x16 (or whatever size you need) dir
<6> logixoul: which would be $KDEDIR/share/icons/YourIconTheme/16x16/
<6> mzanfardino: ^that was for you

<6> does this load for anyone? http://klik.atekon.de/search.php?package=blah
<10> omg!.. who let t9 in here..
<10> ;]]
<10> Sho_: many moons lad.. ;]]..
<5> logixoul, antik hit the nail on the head. I was playing with themes when I started using KDE. I've changed my theme to "Human" and the icons all look good... I'm fine now. I will play with this a little less agressively so I can track what changes lead to what results. Thank you both
<10> Renze: likewise ;].. /me waves
<6> mzanfardino: nice =)
<11> logixoul: that link seems dead for me too
<6> k, thanks
<12> i see on strigi's homepage that it performs "calculation of sha1 for every file crawled (allows fast finding of duplicates)", what can i do for it to find duplicates ? i'm using the kioslave interface
<13> shadok: ask jos van der oever
<10> anyone quite the bomb on kppp script configs?.. whine beg whine ;]].. specifically related to using my new treo 700wx [ugh.. windows mobile 5 os ;]] as modem for my sprint EVDO broadband network..
<12> thiago: thx, i'll look for him
<12> thiago: oO http://www.vandenoever.info/misc/keyes/
<10> ive thrown my gui dependent due diligence @ the 'USB Modem' application's how to for 2 days now.. even more obtuse than my sprint evdo air cards configs were on damnsmalllinux on this laptop to be here now sadly ;]]
<10> anyone with time and so inclined?.. stuck on one of the manually configured scripts one has to create on my suse 10.1 pc..
<10> thanks..
<10> lol... what timing sprint!.. lol..
<10> just got a message via text notification from sprint on said treo about 'sprint power vision' plan lol
<14> hi, im using a sabayon livecd, and I cant get the windows to move
<14> the titlebars are completely unresponsive
<6> are you using kwin?
<14> I dont know
<14> I just booted the livecd
<6> what happens if you run kwin --replace
<6> ?
<14> it all seems to work nice, the animations an stuff
<14> that fixed it, thanks!
<15> is it possible to disable magnatunes support in Amarok 1.4.5? (I get linker errors, otherwise I would use it)
<16> Allquixotic: you mean during compilation?
<15> yes annma.
<15> but nevermind. i got a different error after a `make clean` :P
<16> amrok tarball or gentoo?
<17> Is there a way to let knetworkmanager automatically reconnect to the same AP it had before suspend?
<15> annma: I got it fixed. Amarok compiles :D
<15> I didn't need to disable magnatunes annma
<16> excellent
<15> annma but thanks. I just had to get my i386 build system set up a little more
<16> :)
<15> annma I got amarok compiled as i386 on an x86_64 Fedora 6, with a minimum of extra features, except helix-engine and libvisual.. I didn't *really* need anything else anyway
<15> annma I had to use i386 because there is no RealPlayer 10 x86_64. But all in all I like the results - I have my amaroK again just like it should be, and files encoded in mp3PRO (96kbps, 22050KHz) don't sound like crap.
<15> even mp4/aac is good
<16> cool!
<15> xine wasn't properly decoding mp3PRO. It's supposed to be an "mp3-compatible" format, but the results are really poor on players not aware of mp3PRO's encoding scheme.
<15> RealNetworks is apparently a licensor of Thompson's proprietary decoding algorithm that gives you the full quality of an mp3PRO file (full quality == it sounds like a 192kbps mp3, not like a 64kbps mp3.)
<18> hi all
<18> is it possible run kde on windows?
<19> has anyone experienced slower networking/internet thru kde as opposed to gnome?
<15> frafra: You can run *certain* KDE apps (more like Qt apps actually) such as Kvirc, but they have to be custom-ported to Windows. Cygwin has limited support for KDE based on the project here: http://kde-cygwin.sourceforge.net/
<16> derek_: no
<18> thanks Allquixotic
<16> frafra: you cannot run KDE as a desktop
<15> frafra: Be careful with cygwin though because there are security issues that can't be addressed between POSIX and NT security, along with many build chain discrepancies
<15> frafra: and yes, I would not advise trying to run kwin as a window manager on Windows ;)
<18> because in http://commit-digest.org/issues/2007-01-14/ I can see a "kde windows installer"
<15> derek_: do you have any statistics to back up your claims? what protocols or apps in particular are slower? My answer to "has anyone..." is "no", and I did use GNOME for quite a while. So what do you think you've found?
<20> Nate_Grey: =)
<19> allquixotic: no stats, really. i can confirm there is no physical connection problem. page loading just seems much slower under KDE (using firefox)
<16> well then
<15> derek_: The only thing that touches firefox AT ALL (and indirectly at that) while you're running in KDE versus GNOME is kwin, and that's just for window decorations. I am not aware of any other part of KDE that could impact Firefox if you're running the same firefox bin on KDE vs. Gnome
<16> firefox runs the same under KDE or Gnome for rendering
<19> i dunno what it is then.
<19> thanks though.
<18> and... I would try this installer http://commit-digest.org/issues/2007-01-14/
<18> is it possible?
<15> derek_: It's possible that certain high-end tweaking of KDE features, to provide lots of animations (in tooltips and such) could increase kwin's memory usage, which could slow down your entire system. KDE does use slightly more resources than GNOME in many cases, but we like our pretty widgets. =)
<19> yeah. i like most of kde's interface better, and it is generally more customizable.
<19> but i can't stand the implementation of panels
<21> We desire, nay, demand! our pretty widgets
<15> derek_: If you have a very slow or RAM-starved system to begin with, KDE's additional resource needs could be slowing things down generally. But I have 2gb of RAM and a Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz; I don't notice anything at all that can be defined as "slow".
<16> hi leonardof
<22> annma: hi :)
<21> KDE is good, I like it
<21> Its defaults are too windows-like, but I can customize them to my liking
