<0> Hello, I am using Gimp under Gentoo linux on an AMD64 system. I recently installed Xgl, and when I am running Xgl I have no pressure-sensativity in the gimp with my wacom graphire tablet. When I try and change the settings for my tablet I get an error message "No extended input devices." Where does the gimp look for extended input devices? And how can I show it the way to my tablet under... <0> ...Xgl? Thanks <1> Hello, i've been reading that The project has only 5 developers.. is that true? <2> almost, yes <1> well, i'm from Argentina and my spanish can help to translate some documents <1> i gonna see what's happening with that <3> Ok guys <3> Showtime! <3> New drawing! <3> http://www.deviantart.com/view/36844999/ <4> MegaByte: don't like it, looks flat <4> MegaByte: you were looking from different angles when drawing the top and the bottom <3> TheSheep: You're probably talking about the right bottle? Scanner... I've had to set my gamma to 0.85... <3> To worsen it I've smudged my drawing :P <4> I'm talking about the shape, not lighting <4> and both have bad shape
<4> they don't look round <4> and the place where the bottleneck connects is weird too <3> TheSheep: The right one is closer to the actual shape... <4> look, the cork is more rounded than the bottom, if that was true, you couldn't see the top of the cork -- those are the rules of perspective <3> TheSheep: ****... I guess I shouldn't have posted this on Deviant art, right? <4> MegaByte: no, no, really <4> MegaByte: sorry for being so negative <4> MegaByte: it's surely lots of work, all those 'bricks' <4> and the handle is very good, but it just doesn't have the right shape <4> a bit like those 'magic cube' drawings, or the stairways that loop infinitely <4> the perspective is borked <3> TheSheep: lol <3> The drawing was coming out fairly well, but I tried to rush it to show... after all, I was working on it for about almost two days <3> Maybe I should have drawn something simpler <4> from what I can say, you made the error quite early on <3> TheSheep: But maybe if I had more patience I could have caught it <4> it's extremely hard to notice errors in a picture you're working on <4> especially the 'global' ones like this one <4> that's why the drawings I made over several days tend to be slightly better -- a night's rest lets you forget and look at the drawing more critically next day <3> TheSheep: I was thinking if I could speed up the drawings a bit, but I guess there's not much way around it... <3> TheSheep: Right? <4> right, the longer it takes the better <3> TheSheep: I started with the right bottle and I tought the left was similar to the right one, and when I noticed it wasn't... well, there was no back :P <4> it's also good to limit the time you spend on it per day <3> TheSheep: Spending a lot of time on a drawing makes us not seeing our mistakes, right? <4> yes <4> and it also makes it harder to scratch borked drawing and start over :P <3> TheSheep: You know nothing... I started making the details wrong too! <3> TheSheep: I started drawing at night, and when I noticed it... well... <3> TheSheep: The titles at the actual bottle are much thicker than that <4> well, details, like lighting and shadows, can be usually corrected or masked <4> the shape -- well, can't do much about it <3> TheSheep: This paper is good for drawing but if you erase too much... you get the idea <5> helo <6> Hrm. <7> k <8> hello, I have two circles one is 700px dia. the other is 600px dia. They are concentric. Is there a way to cut up the band they create into 5 equal sections in gimp? <9> apsides: thinking, wait... <9> yes. <9> no pratical way, but there are ways. <8> i'm thinking guides and geometry? <9> apsides: Actually, my GIMP has "frree guides" you could set a t fixed angles. <9> Unfrotunattely that pacth did not went in any gimp yet. <9> Here is what you will have to do: <9> create a single, straight path vertical, wit a cotnrol node at the center of your circles, and the other one on the outside of tehn. <9> duplicate this path, rotate the copy by 72deg., merge it down with firts path, connect edges. <9> Then, with "path->selection" you have a selection of 1/5 of your circles. <9> just keep duplicating the path thus created and rotating it for the appropriate angles,a nd you are done. <8> ah <8> 72 is from 360 / 5 <9> apsides: I fyou have gimp python, you might prefere do that programatically <9> yup. <8> awesome thank you <10> has anyone used Kino before ? <11> good morning! anyone know how to remove the alpha channel in just one layer? (i can't figure it out-- semi-flatten is not it-- i want to remove the alpha altogether) <12> hey, does any one know if it's possible to copy a area of say 64x64 to 128x128 so that there will four tiles of the 64x64 size? <12> I meant to just fill one big region with smaller image so that it wont be scaled but it's tiled <13> cjari, just save your 64x64 as a pattern <13> then you can fill your 128x128 with the pattern <12> cool thank edhei <12> *thanks
<13> cjari, what is even cooler, is that in 2.4 you will have a "temporary pattern" with the last thing you copied, so you don't even need to save it to a file :) <14> edhel: Is that in 2.3.10 too? <13> yup <13> you have that on the brush and on the pattern <14> I seem to discover and learn new stuff in that all the time. <14> That's a nice feature, btw. <12> how do you use the temporary pattern? <14> Buffer<3<3 <12> alright thanks <14> Hm? <13> cjari, you have to use the development version, or wait for 2.4 <12> oh ok <12> I though he meant buffer menu or something like that ;) <14> Sadly, if you use Windows, it's harder to obtain for the average user. <14> Ah, no. I just referred to the 'temporary pattern' as a buffer. <13> I used the clipboard brush already : http://edhel.nerim.net/blog/index.php?/archives/20-Clipboard-brush.html <13> the pattern works the same <13> postlogic, your first brush and first pattern should be called clipboard <13> unless I'm mistaken and it's only in 2.3.11 <14> Yeah, but the clipboard is a form of buffer, no? <13> yes it is <14> I tend to generalize. <13> I was just pointing to where you could find that buffer ;) <14> And I'm used to calling it buffer in vim, heh. <14> Ah. <13> if you have 2.3.10 at hand, that is <14> I do. <12> hmm how hard is it to combine plaster texture and a rock tile texture? I need a texture used in medieval houses and castles <13> you have two textures and you want to merge them in one? <12> yes edhel <12> I'm trying to use the copy draw thing but I cannot copy from layer to another... <13> the easiest way is to put each on a layer, then give 50% opacity to the top layer, but that may not give the result you want <14> Depends on how you wish to merge them. <14> You may want to check out the docs on how to use layer masks. <12> just copy bits from the other on top of the other <13> oh <13> then layer masks would be the thing indeed <13> you have your two textures on two layers of the same image? <12> hmm you know the tool that comes with S? I forgot how do you use it with two layers, do you know? <12> both atm <12> two textures, in their layers <14> S? <13> ok then add a layer mask to the top one (just right-click in it in the layers dialog and find the right menu) <14> Oh, hotkey? <14> Layer masks are awesome. <13> cjari, that is the smudge tool, and you can use it with the layer mask :) <14> It's useful for controlling the visible areas and adding detail. <13> cjari, once you have your mask, in the layers dialog you should see a white rectangle right of the rectangle that represents your top layer. tell us if you're lost <14> Anyway, time to go home. *poof* <12> hmm I added one mask to one of the layers... <13> ok :) if it's all white, then it didn't change anything to the image yet <12> thats correct <13> because white = all opaque, while black = all transparent. the interesting thing comes with grey = in-between <13> so you can paint on this mask (even though you don't really see it) <13> each part you paint black becomes transparent -> you see the bottom layer through <13> and if you want soft transitions, just use some grey, or a soft brush, or the smudge tool, to have a nice effect <12> edhel I think I got it, thanks :) <13> great :) I hope that can help with what you had in mind <15> i just loaded the gimp. how come when i copy a selection from image A to image B, all I see is the background color pasted from image A? <13> it may seem more complicated than just pasting some bits from one to the other. but the great thing is your patterns stay the same in the process, and you can modify the mask as long as you want until you get the right blending effect <15> i'm new with this program. <13> test123, does image A have several layers ? <15> they're both GIFs, one layer <16> try Image->Mode->RGB <13> ok, then image B is probably in indexed mode <13> ooh, a raphael :) <15> right, indexed mode. switch to RGB? <16> edhel: yup :-) although I should try to get a better nick here <13> test123, yes <15> that works, thanks <16> but raphael was already taken when I first joined freenode some time ago <13> test123, you might want to switch back to indexed once you're all finished with the image, if it's intended for the web and you want to reduce the size <15> will do <13> that's the problem with freenode : there are people on it
