<0> hey guys
<0> is somebody there?
<0> is there somebody using windows as os ??
<1> devvv: no, but i can try
<0> i need someone to test gimp 2.3.10 for windows
<2> windows is an os ?
<1> devvv: not tonight, may be tomorrow during the day. What would you like to be tested ?
<0> i just decided not publish my 2.3.10-compilation
<0> since 2.3.11 will be coming soon i guess
<1> ok
<3> devvv: yes 2.3.11 will coming soon.
<3> soon as in "probably before monday"
<4> hey
<4> have a gif file with several frames,
<4> and I should be able to create a color plate for each frame
<5> Uriku: gimp can't do that

<4> why?
<5> Uriku: because gimp can only have one palette per image
<5> Uriku: that's how its internal data structures are organized
<5> Uriku: you can draw the frames as separate images and merge them into an animation with ImageMagick
<4> aha ok
<4> hmm... when I tried to have a gif with a couple of frames, all (0mls) it added some pause
<4> I understand why that pause was insetered, but I want to learn more about it
<4> it's a flaw in gif? having an infinit loop of 0 time frames?
<6> Uriku: there is a default delay in the save dialog
<4> no I know that
<6> Also, most browsers won't do 0ms, they set a lower limit (100ms, iirc)
<4> I'm planning to make some sort of image container format, so it will be possible to have better animation, and this kind of things could happen
<5> .oO( Isn't png a container format too? )
<6> well , MNG is for sure
<4> yea but png does not animation
<4> yea but I thought to make it a bit more usefull
<6> and there is another competing proposal, APNG, A=Animated
<4> say have it capable of containing more image types
<5> gif didn't too, at start -- that's abuse (or, creative use) of the format feature ;)
<4> say have an animation of jpegs and stuff like that
<6> Uriku: this is called Powerpoint ;)
<5> Uriku: why not just tar some images together, and write a plugin to animate them?
<4> yea but powerpoint ****s
<4> well that could work, possibly
<6> does MNG allow to include JNG?
<4> JNG?
<4> I believe that the internet needs a better format for animations... MPEG sure doesn't work, gif... I don't even have to say it, and even the Apng is only limited to png
<5> ah, the crowd of all good image formats that were never widely know because of marketing
<5> Uriku: there are already good formats
<4> like?
<5> Uriku: the problem is that no browsers support them
<5> svg is very good for future web pages, imho :)
<6> SVG could be your container format as well
<6> it wllows bitmaps
<6> allows
<6> also has animation support
<6> and can be scripted
<5> and it is slowly adopted by browsers
<4> isn't it more like a vector image type?
<4> yea Fx can now use it
<4> also Opera
<5> but not full range of its capabilities
<6> especially not animation
<5> it's almost as powerful as flash
<4> but it's still a vectore graphic image type no?
<5> Uriku: it can contain bitmaps
<6> Uriku: for your purpose, it would server as a markup language
<5> Uriku: just what you need for container
<6> which it is, of course, as it is based on XML
<4> but.. how are the bitmaps saved?
<6> by reference
<5> Uriku: as normal files
<4> png?
<5> Uriku: anything the browser can read
<4> so...
<5> Uriku: it's like html
<4> it's exactly what I wanted to make
<4> oh well
<4> :) one thing less to do
<4> ok.. so can the Gimp do something with SVG?
<7> is it possible to make a gif which has a white background to be transparent instead?

<3> Uriku: yes, it can read them, and it can export its path to svg
<6> Uriku: it can read SVG, but you want to use Inkscape
<5> or sodipodi :)
<4> inkscape?
<6> Wilber: make transparent
<8> If you need to make a color transparent, first you need to ensure that there's alpha in the image; type "/msg Wilber alpha". Then you select by color and use Edit/Clear. Type "/msg Wilber replace color" for tips on how to make the selection. Depending on the purpose, Filters->Colors->Color to Alpha may help also.
<6> Uriku: we google, you can google, too :)
<4> fine... I understand ._.
<5> actually this one is easy, http://inkscape.org
<4> wow this SVG is cooler than I thought
<4> I heard of it long ago, but I didn't look much into it
<5> it's very good, altrough even it has some... rought parts
<7> thanks schumaml
<4> rough parts? like what?
<7> "To replace a color in the whole image, first select by color..." -- how can I do that? excuse the ignorance
<7> sorry, think I found it
<3> dibblego: there is a tool in the toolbox named "select by color"
<7> Wilber says to "fill with foreground" to make the selection (by colour) transparent - but it just makes it dark
<8> huh?
<9> hi
<10> 'night everyone
<11> photographer friend: every week or so has to review 1000's of 4mb jpegs. review = look, roate, scale, crop, maybe touch up. save.
<11> currently he opens 25 or so at a time, review each, close
<7> does he use a revision control system?
<11> the 25 is so that he can "whip though" a bach without having to wait for them to load between each
<11> "yes" - copy the dir first :)
<7> I'll take that as a no :)
<11> probabaly - but that isn't the problem I am trying to solve
<7> I know - but it's the only problem I know how to solve - I have 10 minutes experience with gimp and I gave up
<11> what I was wondering was: is there some way to take a list of files, and have a fifo queue so that as he is reviewing picN, pic N+1 is loaded and pic N+2 is loading
<7> dunno - but if gimp supports some form of scripting perhaps
<11> it does, but I have no idea where to start
<3> CarlFK: I guess this can be easily scripted with gimp-remote
<11> 5 min easy or 2 hour easy?
<3> depends on your scripting skills ;)
<3> and the shell you are using, perhaps
<11> would you do it for $10?
<7> I'll do it for a million
<7> just so you know
<11> you are currently the lowest bid
<11> actually, I am not sure he would want to bother - he is currently using PS on a mac
<11> but he has a linux box, and might be persuaded
<7> I have a linux box but not a million
<7> I'll swap my linux box - 2 of them even (buy one get one free) - for a million
<11> I have more than enough linux box
<7> mine are shiny
<12> any one want to try out their gimp'ing skills in a logo contest?
<12> http://feesh.nonlogic.org/logocontest/ <-- give it a shot, and don't forget to vote :)
<13> :-o
<12> heh
<14> http://tuxpaint.org/gallery/?cur_pict=369 ;)
<13> kendrick: did you make that
<14> yeah
<14> (both the image, and the software :) )
<14> (though i'm not responsible for the smudge tool, nor the much-improved blur tool, both of which i used in making that pict.)
<15> Cute software!
<15> I like the status penguin
<13> ok well done
<16> Not sure if its a bug, but in the 'new' dialog box, there seems to be focus probs. i.e tabbing changes the focus between buttons, but it doesn't show button has the focus.
<16> Try hitting a few tabs && shoft+tabs, and you'll see
<17> hello?
<17> anyone around?
<17> I'm looking for someone who is good at icon work.
<17> I figured this was a good place to ask.
<18> how do I dock a pallet?
<18> palette
<17> no idea. :-)
<3> sorush21: http://dindinx.net/gimp/videos/docks.avi
<17> anyone do any good icon work?
<18> Solaris444: the kde group of artists do great work
<17> ok cool
<17> any idea where i can get in touch?
