<killermach_> PhilH: thanks.. I remove the ufraw-gimp rpm and the open fine.. I must have installed that recently, I wonder why I would do that, I don't know what it does.. I'm in the habit of only installing what I will use <PhilH> ufraw is a handler for raw image files from digital cameras, i guess these JPEGs might contain something that was confusing GIMP into using it to load them <killermach_> ok.. I dont' do that.. Ijust googled for it so thanks for your help.. :) <PhilH> it might be an idea to try those JPEGs on an up to date system with the latest version of UFRaw installed and see if the problem still occurs <killermach_> what do I need to update?, I have an ubuntu 6.10 dvd just arrived in my LinuxFormat mag <unseensoul> PhilH, have you seen my image? <PhilH> unseensoul, yes <unseensoul> PhilH, how can I remove it? <PhilH> you might want to use the levels tool and copies of the layer with various blending modes over the top of the original and see what works best for you <unseensoul> ok <unseensoul> thank you <unseensoul> :) <killermach_> how do I "bend" text, I would like some text to be "arched" <PhilH> apparently it's easy with the development version of GIMP, in current stable versions you could try using curve-bend on the text layer, or use inkscape to place text along path and import the SVG to gimp <killermach_> thanks <killermach_> PhilH: curve-bend did a nice job.. I haven't used it before so for my lack of skill with the tool, I'm impressed :) <PhilH> killermach, that's good to hear <killermach_> I have curve and it has lots of stair steps, how is best to "smooth" this out, currently it's a 1 pixel width curve <PhilH> how did you draw the curve? <PhilH> killermach, if you didn't draw your curve using the paths tool you may want to try doing so, you can then stroke the path and draw nice clean crisp lines <PhilH> or killermach_ <nowimproved> i just tryed to open a jpeg file and get this error <nowimproved> Opening '/home/complexity/bg_main_withnav.gif' failed: <nowimproved> Plug-In could not open image <nowimproved> Plug-in crashed: "jpeg" <nowimproved> (/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/jpeg) <nowimproved> The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side. <nowimproved> i cant open jpeg or save jpeg <schumaml> the filename doesn't really sound like jpeg - of course it doesn't necessarily imply a file format, but this is quite common <nowimproved> ya i renamed it to gig <nowimproved> gif * <nowimproved> to see if that would work <nowimproved> lol i was being stupid <nowimproved> i dont know what is going on <schumaml> that means that format detection still works <nowimproved> (gimp:20439): Gimp-Plug-In-WARNING **: gimp: plug_in_flush(): error: Broken pipe <schumaml> is the file valid? <nowimproved> yes <nowimproved> i cant even save jpeg files <nowimproved> i get the same error <schumaml> anything we should know about your system? <nowimproved> know <nowimproved> it is gentoo <nowimproved> i have all the libraries installed <schumaml> can't say that I didn't expect this <nowimproved> huh? <schumaml> only gentoo users manage to come up with weird bugs these days <schumaml> any plug-ins which are not included by default? <schumaml> iirc ufraw is know to cause similar problems <nowimproved> i think it uesed to work <schumaml> +n <schumaml> just to make sure, this is the latest stable? <nowimproved> ok thank you buddy <PhilH> ah, gentooers <killermach_> PhilH: I used first a box around my text then curve-bend, this made lots of jaggies, then I took a oval select tool to make the arc then stroke the selection with a fuzzy 3x3paint, still not really clean <killermach_> PhilH: ok.. I did create/edit paths, then move the handle to get a nice arc, then stroke path 3x3 fuzzy paint, then rotate slightly to match my text arc <killermach_> tahnks <PhilH> it's best if you stroke with a line, rather than fuzzy brush, unless of course you want a soft line
