<0> Hello, i am trying to crop a picture and change its perspective, what im doing is using a rectangle to outline the area then using the perspective tool, however this changes the perspective of whats in the area, rather than changing the area to the perspective of the rectangel, if that makes sense, how do whi do what im trying to do?
<0> like i have a picture at a diagonal but i want to crop it in a way to make it straight
<1> wow, what a sentence :-o
<1> so you want to transform it to undo some perspective view?
<2> jbirdAngel: the transform tools have a corrective/backwards mode
<3> rubikcube: don't laugh, english is not really good at describing these things, especially if it's not your native language :)
<0> rubikcube: i dont know if that describes what i want to do or not :)
<1> it's not my native language either :-) Is polish better? ;-)
<0> schumaml: ok i think ill try that if i can
<3> rubikcube: Of course it's better! At everything! :P
<0> and also english is my native langauge, but im not used to doing proper grammar, and i guess i cant figure out how to say what i mean
<1> I just know that it can be very difficult to describe graphical things with text...
<1> hehe :-)
<3> jbirdAngel: try Polish, it's much easier!
<0> lol, its gonna be easier for me to go learn Polish and then come back and ask the question?
<1> jbirdAngel: try to apply the transform tool in backward mode so that the grid's lines match your images lines/horizons/...

<0> okay thank you all im trying that and so far looks like its doing what i was wanting :)
<0> if i have a reference line at the top that i set the perspective to, is there anyway to make the bottom line of the rectangle match that slope if that makes sense?
<0> so that the perspective of the top and bottom match instead of having different angles or something
<0> maybe that doesnt make sense
<1> not that I know of
<0> okay thanks
<1> but you could use the shear tool instead :-)
<1> and do the rest of the transform in another step
<0> once i set my perspective lines where i want them how do i like crop to that, this is what i think i should be able to do, i have a rectangle picture, i use the perspective tool on something thats at an angle, then i can somehow make that angle and make it a proper rectangle, so that it appears like im looking at it head on ish or something, does that make sense?
<2> you should proably try to use the names of the transforms
<2> your descriptions sounds like you want to reverse a combination of rotation and shear
<0> i saw a video, this was with photoshop though, a person had a picture of a street sign and the sign was not face on in the picture, he made a perspective box around the sign and then did something to make it as if the sign was facing straight at him, he did this to better see the word on the sign i think?
<2> yes
<2> but except for some corner cases, the edges of the sign are not parallel on an arbitrary image
<1> if you want to do exactly that, set the four corners of he perspective tool (in backward mode) on the four corners of the sign.
<1> In the second step, you may use the crop tool to cut of everything except the sign, or simply a rectangular selection and copy&paste
<0> how do i get the crop or rectangular section to match the perspective i set?
<0> if there is a tutorial on this im fine with going through it, just that i dont know how to do it right
<1> hmm, i don't quite get what you want exactly, but I'm sure you will find out what you want for yourself :-) Have you read the gimp documentation, esp. the first chapters yet?
<2> jbirdAngel: you should proably have an image open and try the hints as we speak
<2> +b
<0> rubikcube: i think so
<0> schumaml: i had a picture open, i got closer when i hit the transform button :)
<0> as i didnt do that before, forgot that little window popped up for perspective
<0> thank you all for the help :)
<1> jbirdAngel: did you mean something like this? http://www.gimpforum.de/album/index.php?n=4520
<0> rubikcube: yes
<1> well, the what I told you basically does the job. I only didn't mention that you might have to resize the image again if you applied the backward perspective tool.
<0> rubikcube: okay thank you
<0> rubikcube: ill give it another try and see
<0> any idea why transforming is taking a really long time now, or is that normal
<0> transforming from perspective
<0> or for perspective
<0> i guess it stops responding
<1> gd night...
<4> hi everyone. I'm trying to create a circle, so I grab the elliptical selection tool, make the circle, then go to edit->stroke selection. I get a really jaggy circle though; any way to anti-alias it?
<5> Hey, is there a photo-enhance tool/plugin for GIMP?
<6> hi! does time in braces affect the speed of gif animation?
<7> lng: hi.
<8> yes
<6> ok is it possible to use variable time?
<8> you can use a different time for each frame
<8> but for a given frame the time is a constant.
<6> when i use GAP, it creates me a set of frames, some of them identical. if i just remove duplicated stuff and set longer time instead?
<6> in braces...
<6> does it make a sence?
<9> hmmm... this gives me an idea about how to improve animoptize if some frames are identical
<9> animoptimize, even
<9> lng: it does make sense and it should work
<6> that's what i'm saying...
<6> RaphaelQ, animoptimize?
<6> what is it?
<9> Filters->Animation->Optimize
<6> ok
<6> finally, when i save a set of frames, pop-up prompts me to set delay time... the def val is 100 ms. wouldn't it set all the delays to this equal val?
<6> also, when my boss is watching the banners i make, she's confused b/c ACDC viewer plays it very fast. why?
<6> it has normal speed in browsers
<10> Hello.
<10> is this an ok place to ask for tips to use gimp?
<3> sure
<8> B1v3Watyr: it is.

<10> great
<10> ok...
<10> im creating a menu background (for a game)....
<10> and its a texture... rounded edges..square...
<10> is there an easy way to make it look raised?...
<10> shadow at bottom edge..
<10> it looks flat edged, and misfit
<3> B1v3Watyr: scripts->ligt effects->drop shadow
<10> oo.. trying..
<7> <3 drop shadow
<7> when in doubt, ..... DROP SHADOW!
<3> you can also try bevel
<7> possibly emboss an edge
<7> <3 emboss
<3> lol
<10> ack..
<10> i think im trying to emboss .. make it more 3d and round...
<10> this client wont load the alphachannel
<10> so the shadows are sort of out
<3> yeah, ditchered shadows look bad
<10> i mean the game client...
<10> its indexed only for most stuff
<10> http://cooltext.com/Queue.aspx?RenderID=24731637
<10> ok heres an example of the titles of each menu...
<10> where the title is on a piece of rusted iron... the menu background itself is a piece of rusted copper
<10> i have no clue how to add the edge look tho, besides the random profile shape
<10> TheSheep bevel is exactly what i was looking for, thank you
<3> yw
<11> come apro un file cmx? un formato nativo di corel...
<12> Norton: I am afraid GIMP cannot open/save cmx because there is no specification of this format available for community. Btw if you do not understand english well, you can try #gimp-fr for french support
<8> cornelius[cz]: this is italian, not french :)
<12> ahhhhh, damn I really need a vacation
<8> yes, in the south of Italy :)
<12> that would be nice :)
<6> plese how to index the animated gif image to 16 color?
<3> image->mode->indexed, and enter the number of colors there
<3> if the option is grayed out, then switch to image->mode->rgb and then back
<6> ok thanx
<6> anybody uses gifsicle?
<6> if i give someone gif file in order of helping me to optimize it please?
<13> Hi, I've just installed GAP but have no idea how to launch it :)
<13> Would anyone help?
<14> how do i specify a bitmapped font in gimp 2? thanks
<15> fantomas: http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Using_GAP/
<15> Oh, and great band.
<13> postlogic: thanks, I already saw it, no help there
<13> postlogic: I asked how to start it
<15> Oh.
<13> )
<15> I think it's in Script-Fu, but I'm not sure.
<13> Hehe, its under Video menu, now i c it
<14> never mind... i worked around it by specifying the bitmapped font for kterm...
<13> Can anyone reproduce somthing from this tutorial? http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Advanced_Animations/
<16> ok ... whenever I try to use open location, I put in the URL, but c:\documents and setting\... always appears in front of the URL I post, and it can't open it.
<16> why, and can this be fixed?
<16> the wiki does not speak of this
<17> hello, stupid question, how can i convert one color to another? i did it the other day with out thining
<17> thinking even
<17> ah color exchange :)
<18> hey all
<18> does anyone here know which files in the gimp source are responsible for the File->acquire->Take Screenshot feature
<18> ?
<19> Hello eveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeryone
<19> whoa.. keyboard spam... wtf
<19> anywho, i'm having a problem using gimp to save animated gifs
<19> they lose a lot of detail - it looks like they're reverting to 256 colors
<3> Tamale: gif can only save 256 colors
<3> Tamale: that's normal
<19> But other animated gif programs don't have a problem saving better looking gif images
<19> case in point:
<19> http://www.rage-board.com/files/tamale/tambar.gif
<3> maybe you can convert the image to 256 colors explicitly, so that you can control how the conversion is done
<19> i can't open that animated gif in gimp and re-save it without losing detail
