<0> Is there a hand tool in the gimp for grabbing an image and moving it around?
<1> there's a move tool
<1> I suggest that you browse at least quickly through the manual http://docs.gimp.org/en/
<2> Title: GNU Image Manipulation Program (at docs.gimp.org)
<0> rubikcube: Where can I find the move tool and what does it look like? Is it in the main toolbar?
<3> Should gimp run fine on OS X PPC without any issues? Hm
<1> eitan: yes, it's one of the tools http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tool-move.html
<2> Title: 4.2. Move Tool (at docs.gimp.org)
<0> rubikcube: No... I mean a move tool like the hand tool in photoshop. The move tool in gimp moves the image layer across the canvas. I want to know if there is amove tool that works like the scroll bars on the bottom and side of the picture.
<0> rubikcube: When I'm zoomed in on an image, I want to be able to move my position to different parts of the image without using the scroll bars. Is there a tool like that?
<1> I usually use the "Display navigation" dialog http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-navigation-dialog.html or (faster) the little cursor icon in the lower right corner
<2> Title: 2.6. Navigation Dialog (at docs.gimp.org)
<1> sorry, I thought you were just a beginner too lazy to even read through the very basics
<1> ;-)
<1> does this help you with your problem?
<0> rubikcube: I found the navigation dialog. Yes, it works.

<0> rubikcube: However, i found out that there IS a "hand tool" in gimp. It can be used by pressing and holding the middle mouse button.
<1> oh, you're right, yes :-D
<0> rubikcube: thank you for your help. I appreciate it.
<1> np
<0> Do you know if there are any plans for a healing brush in the gimp?
<0> I found out that there are plans for a healing brush tool. Thanks for your help again. I'll be going.
<0> bye
<4> how do i isntall gimp on a mac? I got the file, but it says i need x11.app
<3> Should gimp work on ppc with os x?
<5> yes, with X11
<3> ah, ok
<3> thanks
<6> hey how can i convert photoshop brushes to gimp?
<6> anyone?
<6> anyone here?
<7> hello. Looking to invert colours in gimp. I can't seem to find it. where might this be?
<7> It must be hiding in plain sight, heh.
<7> Found it. Sorry, heh.
<8> <image> - layer - colours - invert
<8> oh, sorry, though the second one said nobody's found it
<6> anyone here?
<9> perhaps
<6> do you know how to convert photoshop brushes into gimp ones?
<7> I am here, but the odds of me being helpful are slim to none.
<8> nondysjunction, you answered his question though
<9> i know precisely squat about ps
<9> and i intend to keep it that way
<9> ignorance is bliss
<7> PhilH: indeed I did. That's almost like a catch 22!
<8> steven_ can you open them in any way with gimp
<8> if GIMP will open them then you can convert them, otherwise it's going to be complicated
<9> http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/topic/tutorial-How-To-Convert-Photoshop-Brushes-4349-1.html
<2> Title: [tutorial] How To Convert Photoshop Brushes To Gimp (at www.gimptalk.com)
<9> google is your friend
<6> yeah...i read that one
<6> it makes you downlaod windows programs
<6> and i cant really use those:P
<9> well
<9> how about this?
<9> google for more hits
<9> or you can ask jeeves
<8> yeah, a tutorial using 3rd party windows programs is pretty damned useless
<9> not to me
<9> know anyone running windows?
<9> have them convert them for you
<8> to anyone not using windows though
<9> wine might work, eh?
<8> doubtful
<9> i heard it doesn't **** so bad these days
<8> maybe it could be made to work with mono
<9> compared to olden times
<8> I haven't tried it with the .net runtime or dependent programs but i can't imagine it would be much fun
<9> haha
<8> what's funny?
<9> the thought of that
<9> haha
<8> i see
<6> anyone usee abr2gbr??
<10> Hi, I have some trouble with gimp. When I save a image in jpg format, close gimp, re-open the image the quality is decreased. When I try to save as an other type, gimp hangs (this happens every time). Could someone help me out?
<10> I have also tried 'rm -R /home/me/.gimp-2.2/' to reset gimp, but that doesnt work.
<6> anyone know when 2.4 is supposed to be release?

<5> it is reported by one week every time someone asks.
<11> when you save a file as gif GIMP asks if it should be interlaced or not, what does that mean?
<3> GIMP doesn't have support for RAW, does it?
<11> ooh, is interlace something to mix up the different layers of a file into one?
<11> does anybody know this?
<12> gimp supports raw
<12> as long as you have the plugin
<12> dcraw or ufraw
<3> fangarzz: ah, thanks
<3> We were getting it works on the intels... and try on ppc. ppc just needs x11
<3> ok, thanks
<12> i usually save as png before editing with gimp however
<12> after i do whatever i do in digikam
<3> nice
<3> ok
<12> i find it a bit easier and faster then editing a raw file with gimp
<12> you might want to give bibble a try
<12> althought it doesnt really do what gimp does
<12> more of a workflow application
<12> a lot faster with raw then digikam is
<13> gueno, al menos entre al mysql
<13> :S
<13> brb
<14> nas TaTiKa =)
<13> guasop
<13> epa..
<13> que haces tu aqui?
<13> O_O
<13> Arwen, ?
<14> por ?
<14> no puedo entrar aqu ? xD
<13> lol
<13> ta yen
<14> este canal es de los usuarios de gimp no ? :P
<13> ship
<13> voy pal es tb
<8> idefix, interlaced GIFs load in a different way from non-interlaced GIFs, it doesn't really matter much
<15> how do i move a selection to a new layer but preserve its location in the image?
<15> cut and paste doesnt paste exactly where it was in the original layer
<8> duplicate the layer
<8> invert the selection and clear
<8> that way you'll cut away the bits you don't want
<15> man thats afro-engineering
<8> <image> - layer - duplicate layer
<8> <image> - select - invert
<8> <image> - edit - clear
<15> why not just have a "move to layer" function
<15> gg PHOTOSHOP WINS
<8> alternatively you can copy and paste while your selection is still in place, that way the pasted object will end up in the same place the original came from
<8> then there's <image> - select - float
<8> clicking on the new layer button or
<8> <image> - layer - new layer
<8> will put that floated selection onto a a separate layer
<8> "(16:03:19) bitmog: gg PHOTOSHOP WINS"
<8> seems like a fairly unhelpful comment
<8> bitmog, any of those options work for you?
<15> it works
<11> why is >layer > colors > invert not selectable?
<11> is this a pay feature?
<11> I mean, do you have to pay the GIMP programmers for enabling it?
<11> is anybody awake over here?
<8> that's a seroiusly random idea
<8> what kind of image are you working on?
<11> a watermark for a webpage
<11> PhilH?
<8> yes?
<11> I'm working on a watermark for a webpage
<11> I'd like to invert black to white 010203 to fefdfc etc...
<8> and what do you currently have in the way of selections?
<11> I tried layer colors invert but it is not selectable
<8> you wouldn't happen to be working on an indexed image?
<11> what does that mean?
<11> multiple layers?
<8> indexed means that it has an indexed colour pallet
