<0> Solv, I suspect you mistyped the filename or entry
<1> use the mozilla-firefox-bin to get the 32bit firefox
<2> amd64lover, ok
<1> pygentoo where you saw the flash working on he 64bit konqueror?
<3> Iyaa! I'm having tons of problems. I must be getting annoying around here... :S
<1> pygentoo url please.
<2> amd64lover, one minute
<2> pls.
<4> ls -FGg /etc/make.profile
<4> lrwxrwxrwx 1 49 Jun 30 13:45 /etc/make.profile -> ../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/no-nptl/
<4> Is that right?
<4> shouldn't I have 2006.0
<4> ?
<5> how can i convert mpegs into vcd mpegs?
<6> what package must i download for xml-parser?
<1> pygentoo take your time. you have a dedicated channel to 64bit support: #gentoo-amd64

<0> crossm0vement, you used the x86 stage and not i586 or i686
<4> Was I suppose 2?
<6> what package must i download for xml-parser?
<0> whatevaman, are you doing a stage one?
<6> No
<0> whatevaman, dev-perl/XML-Parser
<4> I am doing a Stage3
<7> why no-nptl also?
<8> one last question for the day
<2> amd64lover, http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-321907-highlight-konqueror323+4+1+tar+gz.html I've got working the flash player working on 3.4 but now I've switched to 3.5 and it isn't working anymore ?
<6> K, thanks roger55.
<0> crossm0vement, that depends on your cpu
<8> as a non root user I am unable to shutdown and/or reboot
<0> hydrogen, cause a chost of i386 doesn't support nptl
<4> roger55: How was I supposed to make that decision?
<8> it says shutdown: command not found and reboot: command not found
<6> nooby_god: try running the full path to shutdown or reboot
<0> crossm0vement, eh/
<8> that is?
<9> nooby_god: shutdown is not in your path
<3> Alrighty. All I want is to get my machine to boot up to GNOME. I've emerged gentoo-sources, gnome-light and nvidia-kernel according to the instructions in the handbook and I'm getting nowhere. Any ideas? Am I missing something really simple?
<6> let me look for you I cant remember right off that bat.
<9> nooby_god: but if you'd like to reboot, ctrl-alt-delete should do that just the same
<4> roger55: I am just following the guide and now I does not show what it is supposed to when I run ls -FGg /etc/defaults/make.profile
<6> nooby_god: /sbin/shutdown.
<0> BioHazard_, you want gdm?
<8> ah
<3> gdm is the graphical login thing right?
<0> yes
<8> so how do I add it to my path?
<3> I think it installed it as a dependancy.
<0> BioHazard_, edit: /etc/rc.conf : DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm", then rc-update add xdm default
<3> I did.
<3> It complains about PCI devices or something like that.
<0> BioHazard_, and? X not configured then?
<0> ? xorg config
<10> http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml
<3> Probably not. I try to nano the files mentioned in the handbook, but they don't seem to exist.
<0> BioHazard_, what doesn't exist?
<4> roger55: I am just following the guide and now I does not show what it is supposed to when I run ls -FGg /etc/defaults/make.profile
<3> The X config files.
<0> BioHazard_, see that guide
<4> lrwxrwxrwx 1 49 Jun 30 13:45 /etc/make.profile -> ../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/no-nptl/
<4> Is that right?
<6> /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
<0> crossm0vement, that's the profile you get with the x86 generic stage
<11> anyone recommend a web based apache traffic analyzer
<0> crossm0vement, you didn't answer what cpu you had.
<4> k
<4> oh
<4> I dont know
<12> hey guyz
<11> cat /proc/cpuinfo
<12> how do i change gdm themes?
<0> crossm0vement, cat /proc/cpuinfo will tell
<4> Pentium II - 498
<11> wow
<13> whats a good editor for C in KDE
<9> AlfadorJanus: kate is OK
<12> how do i change gdm themes?
<7> vi

<7> :()
<7> :)
<1> who knows what this method actualy does? EAX 0x9610 :p
<14> roger55, no luck rebooting...filesystem is okay...am doing emerge-webrsync to make it work...and gnash is still masked...i can't figure it out...i might try the old depreacted method of ACCEPT_KEYWORDS
<13> i just want something that will highlight the stuff for me...and is easy to use
<9> AlfadorJanus: kate
<15> ShadowShuriken: gdm-config as root, not sure exactly if it's gdm-config but it's close to that
<0> Solv, wait
<12> Shuddertrix, ok lemme try it out..
<0> Solv, /join #flood
<3> Is there a way to know what order to do this stuff in? Should I emerge Xorg before gnome? nvidia before Xorg? Does it matter?
<9> BioHazard_: I say xorg first
<4> BioHazard_: Xorg is a dependency
<7> depends will work it out for you
<0> BioHazard_, you already have xorg
<0> BioHazard_, if you emerged gnome
<16> I just did emerge sync to update but the ati-drivers-8.22.5 doesn't show up when doing "emerge --search ati-drivers"
<0> BioHazard_, just do the config steps
<4> roger55: I have a Pentium II 498mhz
<0> Eureka, emerge --search only find unmasked stuff
<9> BioHazard_: portage will do it for you, but nevertheless, I still think you should setup xorg first to make sure it's working
<3> The nvidia kernel module won't load either.
<0> crossm0vement, then you could have used the i686 stage3
<4> is it 2 late?
<9> BioHazard_: did you follow the nvidia guide?
<16> roger55, it gave me an older version of ati..
<3> Yes.
<0> crossm0vement, you can start over still ;)
<4> damnit!
<0> Eureka, right.
<4> this guide blows... it didnt say I had that option
<3> But I did it after everything was already b0rked.
<0> Eureka, because higher versions are masked by keyword
<16> roger55, is it ok to put the higher one in to portage.keywords and dl?
<4> roger55: Would I probally get a little better performance with the i686?
<9> BioHazard_: bug 112976 (comments 3 and 5)
<10> kojiro: http://bugs.gentoo.org/112976 nor, P2, All, brodigan@pdx.edu->x11-drivers@gentoo.org, NEW, pending, >nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r4 fails to work with >gentoo-sources-2.6.12-r10
<12> Shuddertrix, i did gdm -config and all it did was flicker my screen and thats all...:S
<15> ShadowShuriken: no, gdm-config
<0> Eureka, package.keywords is the file
<12> Shuddertrix, that didnt work..
<15> ShadowShuriken: all one word, gdm -config would try to run gdm
<0> crossm0vement, right
<12> Shuddertrix, that didnt work..
<15> ShadowShuriken: then type gdm and press tab, see what comes up (make sure you are doing that as root)
<4> well damnit... im starting over.
<12> Shuddertrix, ok...i am doin it as root
<4> screw gentoo's handbook, it did not say I had that option!
<1> what I need to do to be a mantainer of one ebuild?
<17> amd64lover, maintaining it is a good start
<18> amd64lover: you need to be a developer, for one thing
<1> yeah.. i can do the job
<17> amd64lover, just update it and submit to bugs.gentoo.org as necessary
<18> amd64lover: but if you just want to maintain a single ebuild in portage you probably won't want to be a developer
<4> me 2, im 1337
<12> Shuddertrix, didnt work...but there is gdmsetup when i pressed tab
<4> I can dig it.
<3> I think I'm going to re-do this mess again, I'll install the base system according to the handbook, then emerge Xorg, then nvidia and finally gnome-light. I've a-sploded this setup really bad :S (emerge isin't working anymore)
<19> BioHazard_, Ahh!
<20> I don't see where the problem is in the Gentoo documentation for X configuration.
<19> BioHazard_, Yeah... I'd do that. :)
<18> crossm0vement: you using the word "1337" proves beyond the doubt you don't belong in gentoo-land :)
<19> BioHazard_, (When stuff like that happens... eeu.)
<4> TFKyle: I used it for kicks... I knew it would grab someones attention!
<3> I've kind-of been emerging random stuff trying to get the problem fixed. I think I have like, 4 versions of XF86 by now...
<0> BioHazard_, how is emerge not working?
<1> since i have not much time.. i want to mantain a unmantained ebuild :p later if i have more time and experience, more ebuilds could come :p
<3> Not like I lost anything but time.
<20> Please read the documentation in the doc section. There is a lot of information there.
<4> time is money baby...
<12> TFKyle, how do i change gdm themes?
<0> crossm0vement, hand over my check then!
<0> :)
