<Radtoo> D2DChat: yes
<wizo> can anyone help me with my grub?
<D2DChat> wizo, NO IT ****S lol jk
<wizo> lol thanks
<D2DChat> I'm just kidding
<D2DChat> these guys are good resources
<lomithrandel> .distcc is for distributed compiling
<D2DChat> I'm just hving a bad night;)
<Radtoo> D2DChat: Verify that the sata controller drivers and your filesystems are compiled in (*)
<wizo> yeh i know, i managed to get into my gentoo but not my windos
<NightKhaos> wizo: fire away.
<lomithrandel> why bother deleting stuff that isnt taking up space though?
<kimrhh> hi ... how come portage in testing has become a dep of xorg7 ?
<Radtoo> D2DChat: You can also use forwardslash to search the kernel sources :)
<NightKhaos> wizo: where is your windows partion?
<D2DChat> what should I mount in order to get make to work?
<Simon23> NightKhaos hi, i have external and connecting through LAN...
<Radtoo> D2DChat: just /boot
<Radtoo> D2DChat: And the root filesystem of course
<NightKhaos> Simon23: does your modem run a DHCP server?
<broken^> guys, can i get portage to check which cron app i have installed?
<complich8> I had a prob with sata drivers once, because it was compiled in in two places (under IDE and SCSI, or something like that) ...
<Simon23> NightKhaos yeah but i think that i dont have emerged dhcp server and now without internet i cant emerge it :(
<D2DChat> Radtoo, I think it wants /mnt/gentoo too:)
<Radtoo> complich8: Well... I think the legacy SATA drivers are not in the sources anymore I think...
<paveq> wheres GWN gone?
<Radtoo> D2DChat: Hm? That's where you mount the root filesystem
<D2DChat> I did make menuconfig and it said "No Rule to make menuconfig"
<NightKhaos> alright... simple enough to fix... boot into your livecd... then mount all the partions, chroot into your system, then emerge dhcpcd, go rc-update add net.eth0 default and reboot, should work.
<deuterium> lomithrandel: well, why keeping it if i don't need it? ;)
<NightKhaos> Simon23: I can walk you through all that if need be.
<D2DChat> Radtoo, it wanted me to mount /dev/sda3 /mnt/gentoo before I could chroot
<lomithrandel> you worried about those extra 5kb's? i just dont see the point in messing around with files that are hidden that you arent sure about
<hollowsoul> broken^, u could try look @ /etc/crontab i got at top of file $Header: /var/cvsroot/gentoo-x86/sys-process/fcron/files/crontab
<deuterium> lomithrandel: i don't like to keep dead bodies in my cellar though they probably wouldn't bother me
<Radtoo> D2DChat: Ah sure... well, mount /dev/sda3 /mnt gentoo && mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/gentoo/boot && mount proc -t proc /mnt/gentoo/proc && chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
<NightKhaos> Simon23: or better yet I could do it for you by remote... but that hard to setup.
<Radtoo> D2DChat: Something like that
<deuterium> lomithrandel: besides, i also wonder whether i need to adjust my backup script in order to include these two hidden dirs in the backup.. so i wonder whether i need them or not
<D2DChat> make menuconfig isn't working: "No rule to make target 'menuconfig'. Stop
<katter> I have a small problem, I have a SecuRemote liability :)
<katter> I have to connect to a network to a http server over SecuRemote
<katter> now, I have setup a windows machine with SecuRemote
<Simon23> NightKhaos heh tell me , i put livecd into then run boot , something special ? or cl***ic boot like i booted when i installed gentoo ?
<Radtoo> katter: uh. wth is securemote?
<D2DChat> nvm
<katter> how can I connect with my gentoo workstation via windows via vpn
<lomithrandel> deuterium: pyzor == spam filtering system, distcc == distributed compiling
<lomithrandel> so if you dont use either dont back them up, if you do then do
<katter> SecuRemote ... vpn - checkpoint
<D2DChat> Radtoo, where would SATA config be?
<NightKhaos> NightKhaos: cl***ic boot.
<NightKhaos> lol
<NightKhaos> me tired.
<NightKhaos> I meant Simon23
<Radtoo> D2DChat: Try typing "/SATA"
<katter> there is a redhat client, and I cannot get it working. so I tried the windows route
<Simon23> :))
<Radtoo> katter: Anythign special about that vpn thingie?
<katter> is there a way I can tunnel...?
<Simon23> NightKhaos ok now what?
<deuterium> lomithrandel: ok, thx
<katter> well
<lomithrandel> np
<katter> it is UDP based VPN, so...
<Radtoo> katter: So to say do standard vpn clients not work?
<katter> oh, and
<NightKhaos> okay... remember that step after you'd fdisk and you mounted all the partions using the mount command?
<katter> no, it is a non-standard client
<Squawk> Guys, is it possible to get udev to re-read the rules files on the fly, for when you add a new device. Or do you have to reboot?
<zhurak> Hello, perhaps I am a total idiot, but I am not able to find svn program in Gentoo. Neither in installed nor in available ebuilds. Where can I get svn?
<Radtoo> katter: Dang. Maybe tunnel over ssh as a workaround?
<D2DChat> Radtoo, ok I found something I think might work
<Simon23> NightKhaos little bit.. explain me it pls how :)
<katter> o, the server behind the vpn, it does not have ssh running
<complich8> zhurak: it's under "subversion"
<D2DChat> make && make modules_install?
<katter> well...
<katter> I could do that
<katter> but how!?
<zhurak> thanks
<Radtoo> D2DChat: Well else it should be in the guide
<katter> do I run sshd on the windows machine.
<Radtoo> katter: It's not hard... but you need a second machine, yes
<complich8> =D
<Radtoo> katter: or just an ssh client and do a reverse tunnel
<katter> can you show me how in private chat?
<NightKhaos> okay... your root partition (the one that points to /) is mounted by mount /dev/ROOT (ROOT being the device name, be it hda2 or sda3 or... whatever) /mnt/gentoo
<Radtoo> katter: Hm. I'm not good with windows clients, but if the linux part suffices sure :)
<katter> ok...
<NightKhaos> remember now Simon23?
<katter> so... I would do what?
<katter> oops... I am not registered :(
<kimrhh> could anyone tell me why come portage-2.1 (~x86) has become a dep of xorg7 ?
<katter> so... cannot send private messages
<katter> Radtoo: canno send private messages.
<D2DChat> Radtoo, ok I redid the kernel, now what?
<NightKhaos> katter: I take it you're not registered.
<katter> yep
<katter> :(
<Radtoo> katter: oh... you're not registered
<katter> yep :(
<katter> ss about that
<Radtoo> katter: Well... then lets just talk here and make it quick
<katter> will make a better effort next time
<katter> ok
<katter> cool
<Simon23> NightKhaos so "mount /dev/hda3 /mnt/gentoo ?
<katter> my remote ip is 10.0.0.1
<katter> the ip behind the vpn
<D2DChat> katter, using an apple airport
<NightKhaos> Simon23: if your / is hda3, then yes.
<katter> my ip is 192.168.0.1
<katter> just and example
<Radtoo> katter: And you need to forward what exactly? :)
<D2DChat> Radtoo, should i reboot? or..
<katter> I need port 80 on the server behind the vpn 10.0.0.1:80
<katter> the server behind the vpn 10.0.0.1:80
<Squawk> Guys, how can I tell what packages depend on a particular package installed on my system. Ie, if i remove it, what will break?
<Radtoo> D2DChat: IF you kept to the guide and also copied it to /boot and stuff, ye reboot after this
<Simon23> NightKhaos mounted i hope. what now ?
<r3pek> Squawk: equery depends <package>
<Radtoo> katter: Okay. So how would you address it from a standard windows machine?
<katter> my machine's ip(for argument's sake) is 192.168.0.1
<NightKhaos> Can anyone take over from me and help Simon23... he's chrooting into his gentoo box cause he forgot to install DHCPD, and he will need to to add net.eth0 to default runlevel?
<katter> windows machine has the client vpn
<katter> I am on linux
<katter> so, I want to connect to port 80
<katter> like so :
<Squawk> thanks r3pek
<D2DChat> Radtoo, Same friggin error
<Radtoo> katter: Ah so 10.0.0.1:80 is available when VPN is connected.
<katter> Linux Workstation -> Windows Workstation ->(vpn) -> target machine
<katter> yep
<katter> from windows I can see this.
<NightKhaos> Simon23: mount your /boot at /mnt/gentoo/boot... mount any other partiions you made (i.e. /home) and turn your swap on by the swapon command...
<NightKhaos> Simon23: then mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
<katter> target machine (10.0.0.1:80)
<fluxwhore> does anyone know of any way to use a file straight off an SMB share without mounting it etc...
<Radtoo> D2DChat: likely still something wrong with the kernel. Did you compile both reiser and SATA support in and then actually copy the kernel image to /boot?
<Radtoo> katter: Okay.
<NightKhaos> Simon23: then chroot /mnt/gentoo
<lomithrandel> freaking portage cache takes forever to update... grr
<Radtoo> katter: And where would you prefer the ssh server to be?
<NightKhaos> Simon23: then env-update
<katter> Linux Workstation (192.168.0.2) - Windows Workstation (192.168.0.1)
<NightKhaos> Simon23: source /etc/profile
<katter> Windows Machine
<katter> well
<fluxwhore> linux equiv of windowss \\hostname\share\path\to\file
<katter> does not matter
