<0> .net
<1> JeffATL, IMO the standard xorg drivers are better for 2d with a Radeon
<2> Cutriss: yeah should work, all files should then be read & writeable by root and anyone in the "users" group
<3> Phylter: Drivers are kind of a must if you want to run something like a game under cedega.
<4> iamben: "No directory /home/cutriss! Logging in with home = "/""
<5> Phylter: this is a radeon express 200m, fwiw
<2> Cutriss: sounds like it didnt mount properly..
<6> ?
<4> mount: only root can mount /dev/sda6 on /home
<1> Gnork, I don't bother with 3d in linux anymore (with a Radeon at least) windows does a much better job of running the games.
<2> yes, only root can mount
<2> unless you have user or users as an option
<6> US ****s
<1> allex, was there a point to be made with that last statement?
<6>
<7> allex: english only please.

<6> Allah akbar
<8> hiya, is there some kind of database that i can search for my network card in lspci and it will give me the module i need to load?
<2> ufk: google is good about that
<1> google?
<1> LOL
<8> ok..
<8> i'll explane again..
<0> lol
<8> i want a script! i want something that will auto do that
<4> iamben - I have both the users listed in users and wheel. What do I need to do to allow /home to mount when they log in?
<9> ufk: did the live cd recognize your card ?
<8> ohh... yeah i didn't write i need a script in the first place.. my bad
<1> so given a list of pre built modules for a certain set of cards it will autoload the correct one?
<0> ufk, what is your network card
<2> Cutriss: can you see the users' dirs as root?
<10> it shouldn't be too hard to check the pci vendor and model ID and then grep through the kernel tree for the accompanying definitions in drivers/net/*
<8> yeah... i want to write something for the techinal support at school. my card works fine!
<9> ufk: or better what chipset is on your network card
<0> lol
<4> iamben: When /home is mounted? Or not?
<2> when its mounted
<2> need to make sure the mount is working
<4> Yes.
<5> hm, handbook talks about a "plugdev" group but it doesn't seem to exist on this new system
<4> I can see all the folders in the volume as root.
<2> Cutriss: do "ls -ld /home" and "ls -l /home" to make sure each is set to users group and has rwx for the group
<11> i have about 6 lines of post, would it be ok to post in channel to see if someone can help me with the error or would pastebin be preffered
<12> !seen j4rg0n
<13> j4rg0n was last seen 22 hours, 38 minutes and 56 seconds ago, saying 'there a way to slow down mouse pointer speed?' in #gentoo.
<4> iamben: Yes and yes
<1> McJerry, it's probably better to past to some place like http://rafb.net/paste
<1> and then post the resulting link
<14> hey somebody?
<14> i need help
<10> with...
<1> don't we all
<14> i have my file .config on /usr/src/linux
<14> i doit a modifications in this file now
<14> and i can that changes have effects on my system
<14> how i can doit?
<1> how are you changing the file?
<14> i add the support to my ethernet device
<1> you would start with "make menuconfig" but you should really read a good tutorial on building the kernel
<10> did you use one of the make *config
<10> or just hand-edit .config?
<4> iamben: Yes and yes
<14> i hand-edit .config :S
<11> Phylter: here is post, error is toward bottom, i just posted entire emerge
<11> http://pastebin.com/523530
<10> is it still necessary to run make oldconfig in k3rn3l's case?
<15> K3rN3L: you add it as module or built in ?
<14> ahhd the module
<11> kernel is 2.6.15-gentoo-r1
<14> add the module
<10> just make modules_install
<10> and then modprobe driver
<5> doesbeing able to mount and use pluggable devices (USB, etc) require being in a certain group? handbook says "plugdev" but that group doesn't exist
<14> ah ok nonamehere
<14> thanks
<10> good luck
<14> thanks :D

<15> does anybody know about any phone manager via usb, not bluetooth ?
<12> lamer007, not really, i don't think there is any other way really
<15> so do I unfortunately, thats why asking :(
<1> McJerry, I'm not going to be here long enough to help you with your problem.

<11> tx in advance
<16> is there anything out there that can split a pdf, besides acrobat?
<17> while compiling pgadmin3, I get a "/usr/lib/libwx_gtk2u_core-2.6.so: undefined reference to `pango_x_get_context'" . I have pango-1.10.2 installed, any idea?
<18> how can i kill a running screen session without reattaching to it, eg. in a system shutdown script ? i'd like to kill it by sessionname (-S switch)
<16> paras: maybe -wipe?
<18> -wipe cleans death screens
<19> xaltar: ghostscript
<10> piping ^D to it?
<20> Does anyone know anything about getting the D-Link DWL G630 to work with the 2.6 kernel?
<18> hmm how can i send a string to a screen ?
<18> deteached
<18> -e
<10> echo "^V^D" |screen -R sockname
<10> just a WAG
<18> what's the ^V for ?
<16> Kyuu: eew, it doesn't even have readline support, or am I just a moron
<10> the ^V is so that your bash shell takes the ^D as the character, not an EOF signal
<19> xaltar: youre a moron
<19> xaltar: ghostscript is uber-powerful
<10> paras, this is a wild guess, and I don't even know if it will actually accept input that way
<16> Kyuu: well, it looks interesting, at least.. I'll investigate it more; thanks
<4> iamben: My wife got home so I need to go. Thanks for your help. I'll idle overnight and you can /whisper me if you have any other ideas.
<19> xaltar: google it, plenty of commands and examples
<21> is there a volume applet anywhere for the kde panel?
<10> omp: kmix
<21> nonamehere: thank you
<10> unfortunately, it resides in the tray with a non-transparent icon (well, last time I used KDE anyway), but it should work
<22> what package provides scrnsaver.h cause it's not xscreensaver
<23> cynyr: xorg
<23> cynyr: if you're using modular X, x11-proto/scrnsaverproto
<22> ro28: grr all of the protos keep failing to install
<22> been babysitting this bax all day cause of it
<24> does anyone know why software suspend2 says that grub.conf does not have a vaild resume= parameter, when it is clearly tere?
<19> el: does it have a place to specify the swap in the kernel options like suspend1?
<25> Anyone succesfully uses powerstrip modeline in *nix?
<24> Kyuu, kernel /linux-2.6.15.1 root=/dev/hda3 resume2=swap:/dev/hda7 is the kernel line
<19> el: ... wtf is with the swap:/dev/hda7
<19> shouldnt it just be /dev/hda7
<0> no
<0> not according to the website
<19> *shrug* i dunno, i use the regular suspend and it works great for me
<0> 2 is diff
<19> dont even have to set a resume=
<0> well its b0rked too but the syntax has change
<0> d
<19> i dont even see a reason to move to suspend2
<0> dbus is screwed
<26> Howdy all. I've got gentoo installed on my laptop finally... (this is my first attempt)... and I'm now trying to get the wireless nic working. When I insert the PCCard, I get successful detection of it, but I get an error in the log that says: "prism54: request_firmware() failed for 'isl3890'" and then the next line says "could not upload firmware ('isl3890')" Can anyone give me some guidance?
<24> Kyuu, no, because u can suspend to file now, if u would like, so u need to specify swap or file
<24> and thats what it says in all the exampls i found, and it works, becuse i can set the flag to hibarnate neway, and it books when i load that line
<19> el: you can do the same with suspend1 methinks.. its not too hard from what i hear
<0> i can suspend in mid air.... well until i hit the ground
<24> Kyuu, but i odnt want to have to specify that
<24> "Your GRUB or LILO config should have something like resume2=swap:/dev/hdaX"
<0> Kyuu, what are you running for a kernel
<19> rommel: 2.6.16-ck1-r1
<19> erm 15
<27> Con Artist? :P
<19> hehehe
