<0> kos: oh i just remembered those ill go check them out again....
<1> richiefrich: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-49036.html is a good start :)
<2> That concept doesn't work FieldySnuts, there are lots of useflags that I didn't know that I DID need...
<3> is there an optimized build of gentoo for intel emt64?
<4> I installed the track emerge package using emerge trac, what do i do now, im confused it created a folder in my web but thereis nothing in it?
<5> Enverex|Laptop: okay, don't take my word for it then.
<2> Infamy: the AMD64
<6> i was wondering is it possible to rip the NIC out of an xbox and use it in my gentoo box. i think the genbox's nic is bad. is it pci in xbox?
<3> Enverex|Laptop: so they r compatible?
<2> Yup
<7> do i need nsplugin to be able to use plugins in Firefox?
<8> FieldySnuts: That use flag isn't described. What is it for?
<3> Enverex|Laptop: thanks that is whay i wanted to hear!
<5> DrChandra: don't know but i have seen people who turn it on without need have problems.
<5> it's one of those things which is defaulted to off for a reason, i guess
<9> just found a "bug" in 2.6.15-r1 :) i have not been able to compile it with "server" preemptability(none), the 80211 stuff needs the preempt symbols.

<10> bluebird__ thankx
<11> I just tried to recompile the kernel. It took 30 seconds with less than a page of text coming up on screen. Is something going wrong here or is it just a lot quicky to compile a second time?
<2> nsplugin tells programs to compile themselves as plugins for Mozilla as well as normal
<11> quicky = quicker
<12> hi, i just rebooted into my new system and got kernel panic: vfs mount failed
<13> Kakihara, 2nd time is faster.
<12> or something similar
<13> Kakihara, only with 2.6 kernels afaik
<11> roger55: Thanks. Does it just change the bits that I changed then? I'v egot a 2.6 kernel
<14> anyone here resell DSL?
<13> Kakihara, what did you type?
<5> Inssomniak: kinda offtopic here, might want to ask somewhere else
<11> roger55: "make && make modules_install" - all I before this was to select vesafb-tng
<13> Kakihara, then that's ok
<4> PLEASE PEOPLE, im really confused with thisnew package system emerge, I cannot find out what to do after i ran "emerge trac" it is missing alot of stuff, do i need to make or make install something?!
<7> does running 2 emerges create problems for portage?
<11> roger55: ace. cheers
<15> mubix, anotherguy, it's still same error
<13> Kakihara, just copy over the new bzImage and setup your bootloader toboot it
<11> ty
<8> FieldySnuts, Enverex|Laptop: dlloader appears to have something to do with dlopen, which is the dynamic linker/loader system. I would trust the default settings for that. Not having it right would cause everything except statically linked executables to stop working.
<16> kos: it shouldn't
<12> hi, i just rebooted into my new system and got kernel panic: vfs mount failed or something similar
<13> surfdue, emerge should have installed it.
<4> where is it though
<4> i mean how do i use it, its a web app
<5> read its docs?
<13> surfdue, it probably installed to /var/www/localhost/htdocs/...
<4> i did it did
<17> umm excuse me but should i have the Processor family be Generic-x86-64 or AMD-Opteron/Athlon64?
<4> it did, there is nothing in the trac folder?
<4> it make a folder that is empty?!
<4> there is one file in the cgi-bin and an empty icons folder?
<7> i compiled my kernel with 'genkernel all', will i need to recopile to use gensplash?
<13> kos, probably not.
<8> Enverex|Laptop: What kind of X display are you using? Are you going to use an ati or nvidia driver?
<18> slezi_: check the install files
<4> roger55, thats why im confused, there is nothing in ther?
<19> can i use a binary of X when im installing gentoo? one of my machiones always fails after hours of compiling
<20> could someone recommend a package that will monitor log files and notifiy via e-mail or run scripts
<13> surfdue, I don't know. ask in #gentoo-apache
<8> surfdue: http://trac.edgewall.com/
<21> any body configured this ide interface successfully IDE interface: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 4376 ?/
<4> i use lighttpd
<13> FiL_, only if you do a networkless installation using the packages cd with a stage3 and snapshot.
<13> surfdue, doesn't matter.
<12> in grub.conf, under an entry, does root need to be the boot partition or the actual root of gentoo?
<13> surfdue, they are the webapp people.
<22> it's not working again
<7> skunk_eyed, root partition
<19> packages cd comes with a binary? i ***umed it'd just be an ebuild and source
<4> ah forget this
<12> ok
<4> how do you unistall the package?
<23> anoyne know why my /etc/make.profile is a directory and not a file?
<8> skunk_eyed: The root directive to grub, or the root= directive to the kernel?
<13> skunk_eyed, root (hdx,y) = /boot root=/dev/hdxy --> / partition
<23> shouldn't it be a file?
<7> surfdue, emerge -C package
<4> thank you
<13> kupo, it's neither.

<13> kupo, it is a symlink.
<13> kupo, readlink /etc/make.profile
<21> how can i know what driver gentoo live cd is using for ide interface ?
<24> Lap64: lspci
<8> kupo: It's a symlink to the /usr/portage/profiles directory which is correct for your machne.
<21> rsk
<21> rsk, i tried that
<21> rsk everywhere its saying unknowwn
<13> Lap64, enable all ide chipsets builtin. and you can be sure to have it covered.
<7> Lap64, lsmod
<24> ah, lsmod.
<21> rsk, but on live cd i can enable my DMA but not on my installed kernel though i includede every driver
<25> skunk_eyed: boot is root for grub, be careful
<21> roger55, i included em didn compiled em as modulee
<23> ok DrChandra
<23> & roger55
<13> Lap64, then you booted the new kernel?
<21> roger55, one question do i have to copy my config for kernel to /boot ?
<21> roger55, of course
<25> skunk_eyed: as kos mentioned root=/dev/hdXY is another thing...
<13> Lap64, no, just the bzImage and setup grub.conf to boot the new kernel
<23> hey roger55
<23> that file doesnt exist though
<21> roger55, ok i done that and booted in to newww one iam using lilo
<23> i have no /etc/make.profile
<13> kupo, ?
<11> roger55: I just did "zgrep -i tng /proc.config.gz" to check that the settings from my new kernel config were right but I get "....VESA_TNG is not set." When will config.gz update?
<21> roger55, i includedd every driver they have listed in there
<23> only a /etc/make.profile/
<8> kupo: For example, on my x86 machine, my /etc/make.profile points at ../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2005.1
<13> kupo are you installing or why doesn't it exist?
<21> roger55, still i am not able to enable dam
<21> DMA
<23> i am installing
<21> roger55, and duee to it my system running so slow
<23> i just emerge -sync my portage tree
<13> Kakihara, /proc/config.gz is your running kernel's config
<15> anotherguy, i've reemerge it and still same... i won;t create ethx device
<23> thats the step i did before
<13> Kakihara, if it doesn't show, then you still booted the old kenrel
<11> roger55: ah. well that explains that! thanks
<26> kupo: ls -ld /etc/make.profile Notice the file does NOT have a trailing '/'
<13> Lap64, I guess you didn't boot the correct kernel
<13> Lap64, check with 'uname -a' (time and date)
<21> roger55, man i have just one kernel there i removed the old files
<8> kakakoka: You had a typo. Try "zgrep -i tng /proc/config.gz"
<21> roger55, Linux localhost 2.6.16-rc2 #2 Mon Feb 27 02:17:28 UTC 2006 x86_64 AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology MT-28 AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
<13> Lap64, what does uname -a report ?
<23> RiverRat: you're not listening to what i am saying
<23> there is no make.profile
<27> what command will show me information about my DVD burner like firmware and whatnot?
<23> only a make.profile directory
<23> with some files in it
<13> Lap64, does that sound correct?
<23> vserver/ parent packages make.defaults
<21> well my clcok is running 2 hour fast
<8> kupo: : Do "file /etc/make.profile". What type of file is it?
<21> roger55, but does it makess any diff ?
<26> kupo: And you aren't listening to roger and me. That is a link to a different directory.
<5> mine acts lame too, i just shove ntpdate pool.ntp.org in local.start
<5> backgrounded.
<23> DAMMIT
<23> yeah now i see
<23> grr sorry all
<28> byeee
<8> When is 2006.0 coming out?
<21> roger55, ?
<13> DrChandra, soon ;)
<8> roger55: Real Soon Now?
<26> DrChandra: I've been testing it for about a week now. :) Don't know when it will get released though.
<13> Lap64, you have to know if it is the 2nd kernel you compiled or not
<13> DrChandra, sssh
<7> DrChandra, real soon in a few hours :P
