<0> emerging baselayout and not running etc-update will cause lots of issues
<1> G'mornin' all. I asked this over in #winehq, but I thought I'd throw this out too as it seems odd. I'm trying to emerge plain old vanilla wine 0.9.5 (emerge -v wine), and am getting this error: http://rafb.net/paste/results/YqnRDA50.html I'm pretty stumped - anyone have any thoughts as to what could be the cause? If I can give any more helpful info, just say the word. =)
<0> inf3rno: could you give me the relevant error? i'm on the console and can't cut and paste links
<1> arbiter_dev: paste incoming
<2> the fetchmail faq says "Certificate verification is always attempted. If it fails, by default a warning is printed but the connection carries on", but no mails with 6.3 :(
<0> inf3rno: that looks like a programming error, i doubt it's your fault
<0> there are newer versions than 0.9.5
<3> inf3rno, why are you trying the old 0.9.5 ?
<1> then it just says ake[2]: *** [lex.yy.o] Error 1 and starts leaving the directories.
<1> hmm
<1> its the only one i saw in an emerge --search
<1> perhaps i'm blind
<3> better sync
<1> looking again
<3> Latest version available: 0.9.8-r1
<4> inf3rno: this appears to be the same as https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=124084

<4> inf3rno: this appears to be the same as http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=124084
<5> TheRAt: Bug 124084; "wine fails to emerge with flex-2.5.33"; [Gentoo Linux :: Unspecified]; {NEW}; Peter Fox <gentoo@roestock.demon.co.uk>->Wine Maintainers <wine@gentoo.org>
<1> hrmm, did do an emerge --sync, a few times, actually, earlier yesterday morning when i first set this box up. i'm very new to gentoo -- did i miss something?
<0> i suppose they've keyworded above 0.9.5
<1> ahh
<3> yer
<1> that would explain why i just saw it. ok, still getting used to that. ;)
<1> how can i include masked packages in an emerge --search offhand?
<0> i prefer to use eix
<1> i know how to unmask them, just not how to include in the search so i know they're available
<0> emerge eix and update-eix, it shows you keyworded and masked packages
<6> inf3rno: emerge --search package
<0> plus it's much faster
<7> do you need to preriodically run update-eix?
<0> yes
<7> everytime u emerge sync?
<0> you can eix-sync instead of emerge --sync to automate it
<7> ok
<8> could anybody tell me which package contains the p***wd prog please?
<9> kos: the installed versions reflect the moment last updated
<1> is eix a replacement for the emerge command entirely or just the search features?
<0> Simm3rS: shadow
<0> it's a search tool
<9> Sim3rS: equery belongs /usr/bin/p***wd
<8> thanks arbiter_dev!
<10> lol I got gnome 2.12.3 to installed gstreamer 0.8.12
<11> Gentoo-wiki's samba howto won't work ahhhh
<11> First time Gentoo-wiki has failed me
<7> does 'genkernel --all' enable support for IPTABLES?
<0> that silly wiki
<12> hello i'm having collision problems with portage, it says existing file is not owned by this package, when installing poppler, and the file belongs to app-text/xpdf, any clues?
<9> you mean this one? http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Setup_Samba
<13> anyone have a hp dv8110 laptop and have the radeon 200M working with ati-drivers?
<0> xpdf should block poppler
<14> arbiter_dev: etc-update needed to be run indeed, funny I don't remember emerge saying anything about that... anyway, thanks a lot :)
<15> dukebody: they are mutually blocking to stop exactly that. remove xpdf, then re-emerge it and you should have no worries
<0> Kryczek: excellent, good luck
<9> arbiter_dev :I think they recently changed that
<0> bravecobra: xdpf and poppler blocking?
<12> but portage don't says they're blocking, and i want xpdf, i don't know what poppler is about
<9> arbiter_dev : cfr one of the last GWN
<16> d dodod does /qui /quit
<11> bravecobra, Yea, that one :X
<0> i didn't know that bravecobra i'll check it out
<12> portage intends to merge the packages and give me collisions but portage don't tell me they mutually exclude
<11> bravecobra, I'm only having problems when I run /etc/init.d/samba
<11> I can mount other shares on the network no problem
<17> hi all
<9> http://www.gentoo.org/news/en/gwn/20060130-newsletter.xml
<15> dukebody: solution should still be the same.. try it and see what happens
<12> reemerge xpdf?
<9> tylerwylie: that means you have a fault in your config
<17> what is the right place to set APACHE2_OPTS?
<12> or unmerge xpdf and emerge poppler, Triffid_Hunter ?
<9> flojo: /etc/conf.d/apache2
<17> I can't figure it out by reading /etc/init.d/apache2
<15> dukebody: no, unmerge xpdf then re-emerge xpdf
<11> bravecobra, Yea, I essentially used the one that came with the wiki, the smb.conf.example worked fine, sorta, the server started but i couldn't see this computer from my windows laptop
<15> flojo: /etc/conf.d/apache2
<12> whats the difference between reemerging and unmerge-emerge, Triffid_Hunter ??
<18> hi

<19> flojo: /etc/env.d/99local
<17> brave, Triffid, thanks for prooving againg that I'm an a**
<15> dukebody: is that unmerge, emerge fixes problems like this one
<20> does wget support regular expressions
<9> tylerwylie: that config is rather basic. Be sure that they are in the same workgroup
<20> e.g. download files called {1-5}.rtf
<12> but that's a bug in portage tree or what, Triffid_Hunter ?
<21> yes
<1> wow. eix is very fast. nice.
<21> it should do
<11> bravecobra, had them both set to "MSHOME"
<19> _brainiac_ghost_: yes, itf you're using bash
<0> _brainiac_ghost_: i believe bash handles that expansion
<19> s/itf/if
<20> LinuxBlues, so what do do to get 1-5.rtf
<20> wget mysite.com/{1-5}.rtf
<9> tylerwylie: I have mine setup as an NT server, so that one won't do
<19> {1,5}
<20> LinuxBlues, i want 1 to 5
<0> {1,5} is the bash expansion for a range 1 to 5
<20> LinuxBlues, thanks
<15> dukebody: no. if older vers of xpdf block poppler, and the latest xpdf requires poppler, then the only way to update xpdf to the new version is to remove the old one, emerge poppler, then emerge the new one. this is different to a remerge which attempts to compile the new one and replace the old one when its done
<19> _brainiac_ghost_: np
<15> dukebody: so a remerge doesn't work because the new one needs poppler, and the old one is in poppler's way. removing and installing afresh fixes that
<12> how have i to manage when i catch this problems, Triffid_Hunter ? I have to $equery belongs $collision_file and unmerge-reemerge the colision package?
<15> dukebody: there will almost always be bugs pointing to a solution, and this issue happens quite rarely
<22> arbiter_dev: sorry, what is the difference between [1-5] and {1,5} in bash?
<13> can anyone point me to a xorg.conf file for a ati 200m
<12> i have had this problems more than once, Triffid_Hunter , but now i know how to solve without FEATURE="-collision-protect" :D
<0> Osugi: i'm no bash expert, i can't say
<15> Osugi: the first means 1 through to 5 and the second means only 1 or 5 i'd say
<0> i've always used `seq x y` when i want a range
<1> thanks again guys. going much smoother so far. ;)
<22> arbiter_dev: okay thanks. it is just i usually use, for example, cp [0-9]*.pdf old/ and have not seen {1,5} except in regular expressions
<0> wget blahblah`seq 1 5` is what i would use normally
<0> i'm also pretty ignorant about regex, i have quite a bit to learn
<22> arbiter_dev: never thought of doing that with wget. doh!
<0> you could also use $(seq 1 5) if you needed to nest it
<22> arbiter_dev: about all i know is [0-9]{1,5} means 0-9 repeated from 1 to 5 times. has served me well but is definitely the outer limits of my regex skills
<22> that looks scary
<0> it's much more helpful than `command`
<0> because `s don't nest
<23> I have installed gentoo kernel on my gentoo system, I have configured grub correctly and when i boot. It cant mount my fs partition, it stands some thing like that, whats the problem?
<22> but otherwise mostly the same? cool. thanks
<24> help me about azureus i cant install, [javac] java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
<19> gerol: install azureus-bin, I use ctorrent anyway...
<1> hmm - running into a different error, at least, when compiling wine now. =D anyone have any thoughts on this one by chance? http://rafb.net/paste/results/70KVzf97.html
<23> any one knows the answer on my question?
<23> my root partiton is ext3
<15> inf3rno: looks the same as the last one to me
<15> inf3rno: did you try downgrading flex?
<13> mirax you remeber to put title= in grub.conf?
<1> slightly less i believe, but i'm not an expert
<1> flex? negative, havne't heard of it until the error =)
<19> mirax: and what was your question?
<4> inf3rno: check which version of flex you have installed ... looks like the same error as before ... http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=124084
<5> TheRAt: Bug 124084; "wine fails to emerge with flex-2.5.33"; [Gentoo Linux :: Unspecified]; {NEW}; Peter Fox <gentoo@roestock.demon.co.uk>->Wine Maintainers <wine@gentoo.org>
<15> inf3rno: in the bug report that someone pasted for you last time you pasted, it says at the end that if you downgrade flex the problem goes away
<23> cereion_: yes i remembered
<1> ahh, gotcha
<1> checking that out
<9> is there an ebuild yet for samba-4.0 ?
<23> Linuxblues: I have installed gentoo kernel on my gentoo system, I have configured grub correctly and when i boot. It cant mount my fs partition, it stands some thing like that, whats the problem?
<9> can't find any in the bugtracker :(
<17> let's continue, I miss the setup.php file in the phpmyadmin package, any hints on that one?
<17> yeah! I'm trying to run phpmyadmin too
<15> inf3rno: so echo '>sys-devel/flex-2.5.1' >> /etc/portage/package.mask && emerge -avt flex wine and see how you go
<25> anyone using mutt together with Gmail SMTP?
<22> mirax: did you edit /etc/fstab ?
<17> I can't log in phpmyadmin
<0> i'm having a hell of a time purging glitz from my system, everything seems to want it during compilation
<19> mirax: I need the message, not something alike ....
<15> arbiter_dev: so mask it
