<0> to update portage to i just go emerge portage ? and it will update it ? <1> dusty-: usually means there's some serious problem with the installed compiler/libraries <2> I think you have to do "emerge emerge" <3> thank god for norton ghost :D <0> ok <4> Oldmate: emerge --sync && emerge portage <5> goldfish so u think i should use oit ? <5> it* <2> ah, well that <0> ok cool cheers just dome emerge sync <6> oh oh....the suns comming up...time for bed <7> i think ZAxisMapping would work, but i have no idea what 2 buttons to bind it to <4> SiSteM[32]: I use it for explaining flags, then edit my files manually. <5> too hard for me <4> It's easy. <8> weary, i know :(
<5> il just use ufed .. it should update conf automaticly :P <9> I'm trying out X-modular, and I have some packages on my system that are still requesting the old version of X. How can I tell what packages these are? When I attempt to do an emerge -u, Xorg is the first thing on the list to be downgraded. <3> chance2105 its a real headache man <10> if I resize an ext3 partition with parted, is it necessary to recreate the ext3 journal? <3> I gave up on xgl after 2 days <2> shouldn't parted sort of tell you whether you need to do extra work or not? <11> chance2105: add "=x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8" to /etc/portage/profile/package.provided <9> Awesome-o2000: I'm not caring about XGL. I'm trying for much easier things. :) Xorg7 works great on my box, it just boils down to old packages that don't support it yet. <12> ;o <13> Awesome-o2000: i only ever got xgl working with suse 10.1... never got it working anywhere else... <12> likewhoa: looks like a hack? :) <3> the_hoser im so bummed, I have a 6800gs 512agp <4> Awesome-o2000: It's a waste, use the xgl live-cd if you want to test it out. <13> Awesome-o2000: it's not that great. <3> goldfish the livecd is nice but doesnt have dri enabled for any of the 3d apps <3> the_hoser the card is fantastic! <3> it would have been the bomb on xgl <5> someone help. how i get internet ? i cannot emerge ufed <5> i had internet on livecd.. <5> dhcp <7> Has anyone ever seen a mousewheel on a touchpad?? <3> ? <13> Awesome-o2000: most of the ops are 2d anyway... unless you use the silly cube desktop switcher... which i personally didnt care for... <3> chaos I think they have to go to switzerland to have surgery for that <13> Awesome-o2000: it flexes the texture processor on the gfx card a little, but it's not even breakfast for a card like that... more like a snack from a vending machine... for less than a dollar... <3> the_hoser I love it, plus all the neato torpedo window functionality <7> Awesome-o2000 lol <7> But i need help figuring out how to get this mouse wheel to scroll... :-/ <13> chaos: well, most touchpads have a "scroll zone" on them. it's just a partitioned section of the touchpad that the software uses to recognize scrolling <14> why can i only 1 application have sound at a time? <3> the_hoser I wanted to use it so bad :( Im wondering if its possible to take the livecd, install it to my system, reconfigure the make.conf, and emerge -uDavn on it and expect it to work <9> Hmm .. alrighty. Well equery seems to be the beast I was looking for, but nothing seems to be dependant on the individual xorg-x11 releases. Must be a virtual package of some sort. <13> Awesome-o2000: i dont know if you'll get what you're looking for that way... but it might be a start... <7> the_hoser suprisingly enough, mine actually has a mousewheel <3> the_hoser I am afraid im going to have to be patient and wait for things to stabilize a bit :( <7> the_hoser: my touchpad is actually circular, and would be rather hard to use this "scroll zone" <15> anyone have experience with nsd? <13> chaos: well that's odd... the one on my lappy is square, and has a little "bar" etched into the side... the software does the scrolling... <3> it really breaks my heart though, IMHO when that's stabilized its the ultimate desktop - im a big gnome fan <9> Ahhahaha .. it's virtual/x11. I forgot to package.keyword that package, so it wants the earlier Xorg.. beautiful. <13> Awesome-o2000: i worked on project looking gl*** for a while... they have a LOT of tweaking to do... but the idea is solid, they just need to get the proportions and feel down and it's solid gold... unfortunately it's not exactly friendly to work with... <16> were can i find a good wiki to set up a router (ads con) <3> exoduz do you have gnome installed on it> <16> no <16> ive got fb <11> lhunath: no read man portage <17> hi every one, i'got a little probleme on my gentoo, when I type make modules_intall it make an error if [-r system.map -a -x /sbin/depmod] then /sbin/depmod -ae -F system.map 2.6.16-gentoo-r7; fi <17> what does it mean, Thanks for help <18> dark_shiva: error? <11> that's no error, lol <17> ok :) <18> dark_shiva: looks only informative <17> i thought it was an error <9> Wow. It's a wonder I was working at all .. considering all the packages virtual/x11 brings in that I didn't have installed. <12> likewhoa: workaround for non updated ebuilds then? <17> thanks :) <16> hmm so there isnt any wiki for 2.6 kernels to configer router ? <19> the_hoser: yea, i know...most laptops are like that, but mine is different...it's nice but i dont know how to get the mousewheel to work :/ <5> help please, why did i have internet in livecd but now i dont have :S how to get ?? im in chroot now <20> SiSteM[32]: resolv.conf, read the handbook!
<5> omg im reading all the time <21> so from what I hear the way gentoo works is that its all based on source code so when you compile, it only creates binaries for your system architecture which causes less binary size and more effecient programs. Other distros that are binary based have support for quite a few systems which causes them to more bloated. <21> is that correct? <13> pvd2006: meh... yes.... but it's not as dramatic as it sounds <22> anyone there i got a partially fixed syck ebuild wich should work with most syck extensions instead of none <3> pvd2006 not only that but when you have control over the options of the compile you dont have to deal with the random bugs found in many distros precompiled packages <13> pvd2006: the REAL benefit is that it makes it easy to have consistent custom compile options... like support for this that and the other across the board... <19> So, is there anyway to figure out what uses which mouse buttons? i have no idea what would go to my mousewheel (not 4 5) <23> can anyone recommend a good muttrc? <21> hmmm <3> oh yeah - that REALLY comes in handy with audio/video <3> being able to enable things across the board <21> on the actual board <21> oh* <24> chaos_dreamer: what mouse you got? <3> not to mention with package.use you can configure an individual package to use certain features , so you dont have to remember a bunch of options on a per-package basis <19> jimmyekl it is a circular touchpad that has a mouse wheel attached to it <24> chaos_dreamer: try using xev <19> jimmyekl xev? <21> I sort of want to try gentoo, but really Im just doing it out of curiosity. if I do, not that I probably need all these options. I am running Xubuntu right now which is Ubuntu running the xfce windows manager, its pretty responsive and fast, and the package manager is good, but there are still some problems, like not being able to delete packages because they delete dependencies automatically. <21> like trying to remove open office <21> thing is so bloated and slow <3> openoffice2 - it rules it rules!! <18> pvd2006: stick to cli to get out of bloat <3> lol cahoot <21> its alright, id rather use something like lightoffice, <3> my system is raging fast in console mode <5> what means cannot start until the runlevel boot has completed ?? <13> i like gnome-office apps best... <3> pvd2006 how about officexp? <13> abiword, gnumeric, etc <18> pvd2006: vi + tex for all your text handling <21> cli = console linux interface? <25> I'm having some trouble with KDE's terminal, Konsole on my gentoo.. I wonder if anyone here could help me a bit? <21> I use nano right now, and scite for like shell scripting. <26> pvd2006, command line interface? <21> oh yeah <21> that lol <21> I like making things complicated <3> nano is the ultimate word processor. <26> hey... do you know what "/usr" means? <25> I've tried looking for the same problem that I have in gentoo forums, KDE forums and google but I cant find anything similar <13> i wonder if one could render tex formatted documents to a microsoft word document <5> what means cannot start until the runlevel boot has completed ?? <21> pwuertz: who were you asking? <26> feel free to answer <21> lol ok <18> the_hoser: some pstoword converter? <26> so? <14> why can only 1 application use sound at a time? <5> how i get internet while installign ?? says cannot start until the runlevel boot has completed ?? <26> benjr_, oss <21> oh lol <21> it didnt work because I put a / <18> benjr_: http://www.mail-archive.com/alsa-user@lists.sourceforge.net/msg16108.html <14> pwuertz: oss? <26> benjr_, this one application is using OSS... a deprecated sound system <5> anyone ? <27> SiSteM[32]: Put your eth cards in the default run level, not the boot run level <5> om <5> add net.eth0 default ? <5> rc-update <5> ty AllenJB <20> SiSteM[32]: not during install, read the handbook! <21> pwuertz: /usr is just the directory for user based binaries, libraries, and other stuff that can be used and installed by users instead of placing it in root <26> benjr_, applications using ALSA will be mixed together smoothly <5> oh <27> Hotti: I recommend you just ask your question. Few people generally respond to meta questions like "Does anyone know about...?" <25> I'm having trouble changing the schema in Konsole.. Whatever schema I choose the text color is always black.. Just a minor annoyance you think but like when using nano it still forces all text color to be black it causes problems when typing the filename to save as... <20> AllenJB: he's in his chroot <26> pvd2006, so "usr" means "user" ? <5> how i get ufed then ??? <21> yeah <21> I think so
