<0> kale: what does 'emerge -pv virtual/editor' give you? (What package does it want to emerge?)
<1> hey im trying to install gnome at the moment but while compiling file-roller it gives an error and stops the install
<2> http://democraticwhip.house.gov/media/press.cfm?pressReleaseID=1028
<3> i've followed http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Xvnc_terminal_server to the letter, but vnc still doesnt work.
<2> oh wrong chanel
<2> sorry
<2> please dont ban
<4> omg dd is powerfull
<5> i say ya ban cacophony :)
<6> lol please don't ban he says
<7> moreon: It needs a version bump. :p So I'll just leave that for now.
<8> tek_mage, iirc, it did everything i needed, and it's fast/lightweight too. a bit odd at first (i was used to enlightenment, but couldn't stand the slowness)
<5> it looked like he did it intionally to make us cry :)
<9> moreon: wait up...
<10> lo folks i emerged php and mod_php etc.
<0> Odd_Bloke: search bugs.gentoo.org then -- there may already be an ebuild thats being worked on.

<10> but when i go to index.php i get this save as thing
<11> does fluxbox support desktop shortcuts?
<12> sob my nice new gentoo installation didnt work
<3> ok, so there is no possible way to setup vnc on gentoo ?
<1> it says "function gnome2_src_compile, line 48, exitcode 2" can someone help me?
<10> i use webmin, can i configure it there?
<13> flyingprogramer: it worked
<14> perlgeek: well i think i'll give it a try... worst thing is i like it and uinstall it....
<13> flyingprogramer: thanks
<15> thisbullet, my messages get blocked due to not being registered.
<1> ill post my prev post again:
<1> hey im trying to install gnome at the moment but while compiling file-roller it gives an error and stops the install
<1> it says "function gnome2_src_compile, line 48, exitcode 2" can someone help me?
<16> swany: oh crap. umm should i pastebin it :/
<6> silvercat: if it did "support" "desktop shortcuts" what would they "open" with
<17> what is the nethack and selinux USE flags that the package "screen" has?
<6> silvercat: fluxbox file manager?
<16> swany: would ssh be helpful-er?
<14> anyone know a way where i can install off the cd for like a one-time-only emerge from it?
<6> silvercat: use nautilus, konqueror, or get some other file manager, fluxbox doesn't have one
<11> ^hEllL0rd: I just want some icons on the desktop for launching apps.. =)
<15> thisbullet, the lines you pasted looks like a keyboard. Do you have wireless keyboard and mouse?
<6> silvercat: nautilus --no-desktop
<6> silvercat: oops, i mean, nautilus
<6> silvercat: since you _do_ want desktop
<11> ^hEllL0rd: ahh, thank you..! =)
<18> !!! Digest verification Failed:
<19> does SLI work in linux?
<20> hello. I did something stupid. Accidentaly I typed rm -rf /usr. I cancelled almost immediately, but is there any program to check that every package has its files?
<18> !!! /usr/portage/sys-fs/udev/files/udev.permissions
<0> hawking: SELinux is for Security Enhanced Linux, which if you were running you would know it (it's an optional part of Hardened Gentoo). And the 'nethack' USE flag, as /usr/portage/profiles/use.local.desc says is just a different (and probably silly) way of expressing error messages.
<4> Skenvoy, on what
<16> swany: oh crap. i still have one of my other logitech recievers plugged in. i need to unplug that. thats why i havent had any free usb ports :)
<18> i syncd. still bork
<4> Skenvoy, udev ?
<18> yar
<7> moreon: There is, but it's my own... :p
<5> dabicho very stupid :(
<4> Skenvoy, its borked, digest it
<17> moreon: thanks that was a nice explanation :)
<16> swany: oh wait nvm. im typing on a wireless kbd
<18> what...
<3> i don't see a USE flag for vnc in xorg... why isn't vnc working for :0 ?
<4> Skenvoy, what udev version ?
<18> translation for those that only use portage as a black box?
<16> swany: that must be the wrong one then. they arent conflicting right?
<21> Skenvoy, emerge --sync
<18> udev-084
<18> done, like i already said
<21> Skenvoy, this should be fixed already
<15> thisbullet, paste the full cat /proc/bus/input/devices so I can look.
<21> Skenvoy, do you have a S
<4> roger, udev is borked still
<18> what's an s
<5> dabicho i dont know of anyway to check every package and make it see if its stuff is still installed... but if i were you to besafe id just re-emerge everything that is installed
<21> grrr SYNC= line in make.conf ?
<18> erm
<17> moreon: so SElinux is a version of Gentoo?
<9> moreon: emerging nano, and unmerging nano, seemed to solve the issue...?
<18> negative, roger55

<12> grub-install /dev/hdb
<22> udev digest of version 0.79-r1 is borked. there is a bugreport of it.
<12> Could not find device for /boot: Not found or not a block device.
<18> borken mirror?
<12> whats goin on??
<3> ok, i'm giving up on using vnc in gentoo. is there something other than krdc or the gnome thing that just works ?
<23> tomm1-> what's in your /etc/fstab ?
<4> Skenvoy, no
<24> if i am running a process in the terminal and i ctrl+z it, is there a way to send the output somewhere other than the terminal when i bg it?
<20> tty4. I know. I can only say I am sleepy. nothing like rpm's rpmverify? yes, I think I will have to do an emerge everything back.
<4> Skenvoy, all of em are borked on 079 and 084
<23> tomm1-> or is this a grub error?
<14> if i tried todo like : emerge <cd-path> <ebuild> would this work or do i need to cange where emerge looks for packages?
<22> http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123629
<18> wee.
<0> hawking: SELinux is a security-enhanced linux kernel from the National Security Agency. You can read up about it at hardened.gentoo.org or www.nsa.gov/selinux/
<5> dabicho if there is i dont know about it.
<12> _AxS_: grub
<25> drac: Bug 123629; "digest verification of sys-fs/udev-079-r1 failed."; [Gentoo Linux :: Ebuilds]; {RESOLVED}; Samuli Suominen <sasuomin@uusikaupunki.fi>->Gentoo Linux bug wranglers <bug-wranglers@gentoo.org>
<23> what drive/partition is /boot supposed to be?
<4> drac, 084 is still borked, new bug forgot number
<12> the root one (/dev/hdb1)
<21> Skenvoy, I'll check it myself and reopen the bug if I get the same
<17> moreon: yeah I'm readin right now
<18> ok
<13> anyone wants to play monopoly online?
<20> ok, thank you. better start now .
<22> http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123302
<26> is there any limitation in the packages, etc for amd64 compared to x86?
<23> tomm1-> so you just have root? no specific boot partition?
<25> drac: Bug 123302; "Cannot emerge udev-084: Digest verification Failed: udev.permissions Filesize does not match recorded size"; [Gentoo Linux :: baselayout]; {REOPENED}; Alexander Skwar <askwar@digitalprojects.com>->Gentoo's Team for Core System packages
<25> <base-system@gentoo.org>
<1> hey im trying to install gnome at the moment but while compiling file-roller it gives an error and stops the install
<12> _AxS_: nope
<1> it says "function gnome2_src_compile, line 48, exitcode 2" can someone help me?
<0> kale: I suppose it would. You just need one package to fulfill the virtual/editor requirement... so if you have something else on the system that fulfills that (like vim), everything should be fine... I'm not exactly sure on the proper way to clue portage into that, but it seems to clue itself in at some point :P
<10> perl made my webmin crash
<27> does anyone know how to use 'convert' with a custom palette (colorspace)?
<10> is that crash gone now?
<4> bug 123302
<13> GenBot: just delete dogest and recreate it
<12> _AxS_: dont see why there should be one, cause slacks happy with it like that
<23> tomm1-> and you have 'root (hd1,0)' in grub, and 'kernel /boot/....' ?
<13> anyone wants to play monopoly online?
<23> tomm1-> oh it should be fine (i don't have a boot partition either)
<26> AMD64 question - how does it differn from x86? are there some packages not available? What is the difference?
<16> swany: i fixed it but its still not booting :(((
<19> Steve973: come on over to #gentoo-amd64
<12> still the same
<4> Skenvoy, bug 123302 :)
<26> ok
<17> where does emerge save the downloaded tar.bz2 files... as it seems it doesn't automatically delete them?
<16> swany: can i paste you my usb reciever's cat from proc and what my xorg config looks like please :)))
<0> hawking: /usr/portage/distfiles
<23> tomm1-> can i see your grub.conf? can you rafb.net/paste it?
<23> tomm1-> also, i ***ume you've got two hdd's?
<18> yeh and
<23> (hda and hdb)
<12> _AxS_: no
<18> doesn't tell me "fix = "
<12> hda is physically disconnected
<15> thisbullet, go ahead.
<18> ohlol
<18> opened
<23> ah, there's your problem. root (hd0,0)
<4> Skenvoy, just ebuild digest it
<16> swany: yay
<18> translation for those that only use portage as a black box?
<12> _AxS_: the bios is booting from hdd-1, the primary slave
<4> Skenvoy, got equery installed ?
<12> _AxS_: still the same...
<28> i emerged kde theme baghira but when i go to the control center i can't see them into the theme panel..
<18> yes
