<0> yes
<1> i think (if ive read manual well) when i use temprorary use-flags it should work too
<0> no
<2> Smerity, i heard the graphical install is very unstable, just use the handbook on gentoo.org and you will be good to go
<0> don't use USE="" in command line
<3> Smerity: skip the gui installer it dosnt work well.
<4> how do i load modules from a debian chroot into ram?
<5> eml, jimmyeklu - thanks guys, fair enough =) didn't know how far it had come along since I'd last heard
<2> Smerity, np
<1> likewhoa: i run emerge -av dev-lang/php, got: "B" dev-php/mod_php (is blocking dev-lang/php-5.1.2) nad dev-php/php (is blocking dev-lang/php-5.1.2)
<6> richiefrich, I got it working!!!
<7> simmerz: 'into ram'?
<8> Solv, how
<0> MKc: you have old php layout
<8> Solv, with what
<0> MKc: just try emerge php -av then

<1> fixin solution pls?
<6> richiefrich, got guidedog...enabled routing and IP Masquerading for the other pootas ip address
<5> eml & jimmyeklu - lol, awesome, even the 'non-graphical' install CD now has graphics ^_^ <oooh... pretty...>
<1> huh i did emerge php like 1 hour ago
<2> Smerity, hehe =) framebuffer... links -g and youll have mouse support on the browser
<1> mb old world
<8> Solv, guidedog
<5> eml - lol, wooT! ^_^ thx
<9> Can the gentoo live cd mount a NFS share?
<10> bleh... can't connect to ut2004master1.epicgames.com
<2> YeTr2, go warsow ;)
<6> richiefrich, guarddog is a firewall, and guidedog is a packet routing proggy....use both together
<11> arrummzen: Yes it can.
<9> ReJ: so can I install gentoo on an NFS share the same way I would on a hard disk?
<11> arrummzen: Sure. :)
<6> okay, now my next hurdle is to get NFS working....it's driving me nuts...i have done everything the way all the wikis say...i had it working between gentoo and fedora...but can't get it happening with gentoo and gentoo!!
<9> using the live CD? Then create a CD with GRUB and a kernel to boot and mount the NFS share as root?
<11> arrummzen: It's a *lot* slower to install that way.
<8> Solv, so emerge guarddog firewall ? and run what
<12> hi
<11> arrummzen: I did that with an IDE Flash module once...
<12> may I know how does Gentoo differs from other linux distro such as debian?
<11> arrummzen: ...instead of a CD, that is.
<6> richiefrich, no emerge guarddog guidedog
<8> and run
<13> dont say that YeTr2, i wanna play :P
<4> fyrestrtr: let me explain. I am installing debian into a qemu partition, and it doesnt work. i want to check the initrd image (cramfs) but the gentoo livecd doesnt have cramfs built in. I want to chroot into my debian install and use cramfs from there if it exists. is it possible>
<11> vinboy: Read all about it on www.gentoo.org, please.
<6> richiefrich, it is for kde
<6> richiefrich, what do u use?
<13> vinboy, wonderful documentation and compiling everything fromsource
<8> gnome
<13> go check out gentoo.org
<8> Solv, ^^
<12> thanks
<6> richiefrich, ^^ is what now?
<8> Solv, gnome
<6> richiefrich, well you should probably get firestarter...it will do it all in the one program
<6> richiefrich, firestarter is made for gnome...guidedog is for kde
<6> richiefrich, in the firestarter preferences, tell it you want to share your internet connection...and that should pretty much do it
<8> Solv, so i must enable what in the app... or look for
<14> hi, where can i find the Java library on a gentoo i386 system
<6> richiefrich, you may even want to tell your main computer to be a dhcp server so you don't have to setup dns information on you client computer...firestarter will make that happen for you too
<8> Solv, nice
<8> Solv, firestarter as root or user?
<12> hi
<8> Solv, or dont matter
<12> i'm using amd athlon
<12> wat architecture should I choose?
<6> richiefrich, it will ask for root p***word...u will need it
<5> has anyone used ReiserFS for their boot partition? It requires a special option right, -notail I believe? Does it improve performance in your opinion?
<15> vinboy: Athlon 32 or AMD64?
<8> Solv, ok thanks again
<8> :)
<12> UQlev: 32
<16> I still hav'nt found a brilliant video player for linux. Mplayer is great, but does'nt seem to support multiple audio streams in .ogm's and .mkv's - a real problem. Xine supports these, but has poor performance - sometimes for a small (3-4 seconds) it does'nt play the audio track. Also it's seeking is awfully slow
<6> richiefrich, np...glad i can actually help someone instead of asking for help all the time!
<8> Solv, networking is my week spot
<8> Solv, when i get wireless i might seek u out
<8> :)
<16> I've used linux quite a bit now - 2 years with gentoo on my only good box now but still hav'nt found something really great

<6> richiefrich, yeah no worries...be glad to help...actually it is nice and easy on gentoo
<16> Like windows media player (cough)
<8> Solv, no what i seen in here
<15> vinboy: use universal i686
<8> jords_, mplayer
<8> jords_, xine vlc
<1> what to do when i have old php layout and emerge -av php wont work? i did emerge --sync too do i need to run emerge --update --ask world?
<17> windows media player likes to play nice with the media industry.. it gets annoying
<6> jords_, i agree with you...still waiting for something that just works!
<12> UQlev: sorry, there is no i686 in this page http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/where.xml
<12> only thest (alpha amd64 hppa ppc (32 bit) ppc (64 bit) sparc64)
<8> Solv, jords_ when did WMP ever just work? i email stuff to my parents all the time.. i get i cant play this it wont open :)
<18> Still no luck with my printer.
<16> richiefrich: Read what it said earlier - does'nt support multiple video streams.
<9> why would dhcpcd exit would an error yet my interface still have no IP Address?
<18> Well no more luck.
<13> ust got 7800 PPH in ut2k4 xD
<19> arrummzen: prephrase that? :p
<9> lhunath: what?
<19> arrummzen: rephrase*
<9> lhunath: I can't get eth0 to work.
<9> The right moduel is loaded.
<20> if a merge fails in the last stage, and is reported INCOMPLETE when running emerge -pv --resume, is there a way to continue that emerge without recompiling the offending package?
<9> dhcpcd doesn't give any kind of error when I run dhcpcd eth0 ...
<6> applejack, if other dependencies compiled okay it won't redo them
<9> it just exists with no error...
<19> arrummzen: the eth shows up in ifconfig?
<16> richiefrich: ahh... when did i say WMP just works? It just does'nt work. does'nt the whole (cough) business make it even more obvious i was joking?
<20> Solv, well, it is recompiling the package....
<8> jords_, i missed that :)
<9> lhunath: if I type ifconfig eth0 up it does...
<6> applejack, was it one package or several
<9> by default no.
<9> (This is on the live CD...)
<20> Solv, it just failed because it has circular dependencies when adding groups
<19> arrummzen: and what output does dhcpcd eth0 give?
<6> some packages need say 10 other packages compiled...if you got 7 out of then then an error, and reemerge it would say 1 out of 4 next time
<9> Nothing.
<20> Solv, several,. all the dependencies succeded
<9> I just get the bash prompt agine..
<6> applejack, try doing emerge --oneshot <package>
<20> Solv, what I meant was can I avoid recompiling the last package again
<19> arrummzen: but no ip address gets configured? hmm
<20> Solv, since the compile succeded,. it's just the actual merge that failed
<6> applejack, oh
<6> applejack, i see
<6> sorry
<19> arrummzen: try ***igning a static one in your subnet?
<6> applejack, i'm sorry i don't know never had that problem before
<9> lhunath: I don't like doing that. I have a working dhcp server...
<20> k
<21> http://pastebin.com/664607 << what do I do to unmask?
<20> thanks anyways
<11> applejack: Why did it fail?
<21> what are the lines I need to add to /etc/porage/package.keywords?
<21> I can't seem to figure out
<19> arrummzen: well, might as well do it now for diagnostic purposes only
<9> The net-setup program doesn't work either...
<20> ReJ, it tries to add a non-existing group to another
<21> I tried adding ">=media-libs/glitz-0.5.4_alpha1" to /etc/portage/package.keywords with no result
<21> what is it masked by?
<11> ram_einstein: cate-gory/package or =cate-gory/package-version if you want a specific version.
<9> lhunath: ok, I set an IP, mask, bcast and gateway.
<9> It can't ping any other hosts on the LAN.
<21> ReJ: ah okay. I'll try again then
<9> Maybe the gentoo liveCD gives devices weiered names?
<22> hello
<22> I need backup
<22> :p
<20> ReJ, the last error was a red star next to: You must add group games to the system first
<22> I'm trying to install my f**ing sound card and alsaconf still doesnt recognise it
<21> ReJ: must I add it to package.keywords?
<21> it doesn't seem to be masked by a keyword
