<0> I am tripple booting.
<0> >.<
<1> deformative_: Should I paint my living room blue or grey?
<2> what shall i set in my xorg.conf to disable fglrx internal agp?
<3> deformative_, i would recommend a separate /home.. then if you change or add distros your /home can stay the same
<4> creeture that is correct my interface is called ath0 not eth0
<5> aschi: CONFIG_SCSI_CPQFCTS
<3> Stonefish, blue, definitely.
<0> Alright.
<6> grey maybe
<0> I am just confused by the handbook.
<0> BEcause all the sizes seem off.
<7> why do I keep getting found ".." dir in relative path: .. when I try to rsync I have -R enabled
<8> deformative_: it's better to use different user names if you share your /home partition though
<5> aschi: it may be an external module, because i've seen it only for RedHat and other propietary distros
<3> deformative_, handbook tells you things you can do.. you still need to decide what you want to do.. only way to do that is by experience, so pick something this time, if you don't like it, reinstall and pick something else...

<9> whats it with all the "Userland_Darwin flag is not in use" message btw?
<10> woodyst: ok, thanks a lot - i'll try
<1> I'm leaving this conversation. irc lag is an ugly thing :)
<10> woodyst: no problem
<5> aschi: try googlingm, there's a log of info
<10> ok..
<5> bye friends, i have to go
<11> Alright.
<12> grumo: Well, it was a thought. There is also an override param that I saw somewhere.
<11> I have installed several distros so far.
<11> So partioning is nothing new.
<11> I was just a bit confused by the handbook.
<4> creeture: which override parameter?
<13> Deformative: Didn't find one you liked? :)
<12> grumo: Looking for it again...one moment
<11> I am hoping gentoo will be the one I lilke. [Sigh]
<2> what shall i set in my xorg.conf to disable fglrx internal agp?
<11> All the rest I have tried besides elive were too bloated.
<14> DrChandra: moved the lot to overlay dir but same error
<11> But elive was too buggy.
<2> or is there any other config-file for fglrx i may take a look at?
<13> tuxick: Did you digest it?
<12> grumo: Look at /etc/conf.d/net.example -- look for "nodns"
<11> Alright, thanks for the help everyone.
<11> Back to reading the handbook.
<14> DrChandra: that was the word i couldn't remember, and it's not mentioned in the handbook
<14> http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=3&chap=5
<4> creeture: i looked into that but it seems to be for dhcp and i am not using it and in any case i tried to use that option with no luck
<12> grumo: I got nuthin then.
<4> creeture: thanks anyway!
<15> Hi all
<2> TheMoken; hello..
<16> hi
<12> grumo: in the init.d scripts, I see stuff that writes the domainname stuff to resolv.conf, but not what manages the nameserver entries.
<12> grumo: For giggles, try putting a space between the last " and the ) in your line. Seems simple, but might work.
<15> any of you all know about SATA with AHCI and Gentoo?
<13> Years from now, when the Ubuntu gorillas and the Debian chimpanzees have all gone back into the jungle of obscurity, we will be sitting around the Acropolis sharing fond memories of the Gentoo neanderthal, and the caves we explored with it.
<3> TheMoken, ...ive heard it works, dunno much else...
<17> heh
<18> http://www.orkspace.net/owned/
<14> ebuild /usr/local/portage/app-office/mozilla-sunbird-bin/mozilla-sunbird-bin-0.3alpha2.ebuild digest
<15> _AxS_ That's what I've heard, but it always kernel panics on my machine
<14> !!! app-office/mozilla-sunbird-bin-0.3alpha2 does not follow correct package syntax.
<12> DrChandra: Only if there's beer.
<19> hi, does anyone here use the faac audio codec with mplayer?
<14> this looks like just as suggested in the wiki
<14> except the error output
<13> That reminds me, must buy more bananas.
<20> tuxick : are you sure it's not 0.3-alpha2.ebuild or 0.3_alpha2.ebuild
<3> TheMoken, ooo.. that ****s.. latest kernel, even?
<14> pfeilspitze: that matters??
<14> checking
<14> i thought i'd be free to call it harry.ebuild
<12> Off to play a little softball.
<15> _AxS_ yeah, both vanilla and gentoo sources
<8> guru18: only aac here
<3> TheMoken, hm.. does the ither intel driver work for you?
<3> s/ither/other/
<8> guru18: you mean mpeg-4 codec ?
<20> tuxick : that's where the package version information comes from

<21> is the font-misc-misc ebuild broken?
<22> anyone know how i can get solitaire?
<23> why did all the mplayer dated versions become -x86 ?
<14> pfeilspitze: ah i remember now, portage uses very tricky naming
<19> LinuxBlues: actually either, what do I p*** to -oac if I want aac?
<24> marik: because pre8 is here
<17> you'd have to ask the ebuild maintainer
<23> IceD^, ah, and that's newer?
<13> marik: Because they were causing downgrades due to unfortunate version number comparison code.
<17> portage thinks pre8 is older though.
<8> guru18: no idea, I use alsa by default
<24> marik: yeah
<23> IceD^, ah, it's showing up as a downgrade here
<23> [ebuild UD] media-video/mplayer-1.0_pre8 [1.0.20060415]
<24> Fieldy: sure, because 2006xxxx > pre8
<13> marik: My understanding it pre8 is newer.
<19> LinuxBlues: i'm trying to encode something with aac...
<24> marik: it's OK
<23> k
<23> just checking
<19> LinuxBlues:guess I'll google it
<14> pfeilspitze: mozilla-sunbird-bin-0.3-alpha2 same thing, and in fact i was rather sure it'd be 0.3alpha...
<23> DrChandra, IceD^, overnight they all went -x86 and that seemed a bit odd
<24> and masking older snapshot is the only way now (portage was not designed for this issue)
<24> yeah
<13> marik: there was a lot of whining.
<8> marik: 1.0.200* has an issue with mpg movies, here at least, and I have masked it...
<24> that's to force everybody to move to pre8 and not to stay at older snaps (because stupid portage think that snap is newer)
<23> LinuxBlues, I havent noticed any problems playing mpeg formats with mplayer
<23> it's not stupid
<11> Should I make all my partitions reiserfs? Or is there some reason I should use ext2/3?
<17> nor i, with those versions as well
<8> marik: fullscreen ? hmmm
<3> Deformative, i would recommend ext2 for /boot if you have one
<23> LinuxBlues, nope. no problems
<13> The vid kiddies were missing "That's So Raven".
<24> Deformative: use ext2 for /boot
<11> Will do.
<25> Deformative: if you have a data partition, I'd use ext3 for it
<8> marik: I have issues, dunno why and it's reported (not by me)
<14> bah
<25> or make sure you have a UPS
<14> why so obscure
<17> i use reiserfs wherever possible, exception being boot just like those above. solid filesystem.
<11> Should I use reiserfs for root?
<17> reiserfs can handle power losses, it's xfs that can't
<17> Deformative: sure
<20> tuxick : well, look for yourself. http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/devrel/handbook/handbook.xml?part=2&chap=1#doc_chap2 (you're wrong)
<26> meh
<27> Deformative: ext2 boot, ext3 for all others
<25> Fieldy: not in my experience
<24> Deformative: sure
<17> ah well, we al lhave our opinions
<28> Deformative: I prefer XFS. use what you like, but use ext3/2 for portability between BSD and Linux
<17> Garibaldi: key word "my"
<24> reiserfs (3, not reiser4) is really great
<26> i wouldn't trust ricerfs even if it was hardwired to a coal plant
<26> >_<
<25> Fieldy: heh, that's all I ever claimed to represent
<14> pfeilspitze: aah, underscores!
<24> reiser4 will be in alpha state for ages
<23> LinuxBlues, no tellin. I have an issue on my laptop with cairo.. in gaim, people's aliases in tabs.. after 5 characters, it won't show up. I know it's an issue with cairo because I switched from ~x86 to x86 cairo and that fixed gaim from crashing whenever someone IM'd me to showing up with only the first 5 cahracters of their alias
<23> LinuxBlues, no one's reported similar problems and I've rebuilt world now twice
<23> so.. no telling what might be the cause of problems
<8> hmmm
<29> Anyone know where that guide is to run gentoo in ramdisk?
<11> I do not know what I like best, I am pretty new at this, but thanks, I will use ext2 for /boot and reiserfs for root.
<3> pvd, you mean the gentoo livecd?
<17> sounds good to me. that's what i do with home and production systems
<25> Deformative: good luck
<24> Deformative: the only cons agains reiserfs is relatively havy cpu usage
<29> _AxS_, no no that.
<24> Deformative: but if you have at least 1Ghz CPU you will not notice this
