<0> i have problems with resuming with firefox
<1> Bizzeh: it should be, thatll get you around this problem
<2> iamben: and that will allow me to boot both windows and gentoo?
<1> yes, just use the handbook's instructions for grub, it tells how to add an entry for windows
<2> thankyou :)
<3> DaggyStyle, kxkb
<4> hi, is there a program for specify the fan of a laptop run without the bios signal?
<5> roger: thanks, will try
<6> mad93: sys-apps/lm_sensors
<7> localhost profiles # ACCEPTED_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge xchat -p
<7> [ebuild UD] net-irc/xchat-2.4.5 [2.6.2]
<7> localhost profiles # ACCEPTED_KEYWORDS="x86" emerge xchat -p
<7> [ebuild UD] net-irc/xchat-2.4.5 [2.6.2]
<8> hello everyone. how do I patch my kernel?
<7> argh
<4> i mean, i want it to start to work on 60 degrees, before the programed

<8> i think the patch I want is fpsplash. i found the patch but how do I use it?
<7> anyone know what I broke? same package version with x86 and ~x86 keywords?
<4> nanobanshee: this packages is not only for 'see' the computer?
<9> OfficerHotpants: if you mean fbsplash, just emerge gentoo-sources...it's already included.
<8> ok cool
<8> thanks blackace
<4> the problem is not the cpu, is the graphical card
<10> slip: yeah you're trying to use accept keywords on the command line instead of using /etc/portage/package.keywords which is designed to do exactly what you want
<4> the ati colapses due to much temperature
<4> i lost the signal of the screen
<3> slip, you probably masked it yourself via /etc/portage/package.mask
<8> sorry, i forgot to ask. i have emerge hardened-sources for my kernel. emerging gentoo-sources won't interfere with hardened-sources will it?
<3> slip, oh you misspelled ACCEPT_KEYWORDS!
<7> :XX!!!
<11> i get svgalib and zgv working when i am root but not as normal user, it then asks me if the svgalib_helper module is already loaded, how can i run zgv as normal user, which group do i have to add myself ?
<7> damn it roger55, thank you, I cant believe I just did that
<8> blackace: sorry, i forgot to ask. i have emerge hardened-sources for my kernel. emerging gentoo-sources won't interfere with hardened-sources will it?
<12> hi guys, anyone had a problem like: Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". (under xgl) ?
<6> mad93: I think lm_sensors handles all sensors. try it,
<9> OfficerHotpants: you can only use one kernel sources at a time
<9> OfficerHotpants: you can have more than one emerged, but you can't use more than one
<6> mad93: there is also the fancontrol script, which regulates the fans.
<4> is normal that the graphical card disipator are vincultated to the cpu one?
<8> blackace: so emerging gentoo-sources won't be a problem? but using fbsplash from it can't happen?
<13> anyone had problems with xkb in xorg-server-1.0.99.901 ?
<14> !seen bluesman
<15> Munger, I don't remember seeing bluesman.
<4> them start at the same time to run
<9> OfficerHotpants: you can only run one kernel...if you want that to be hardened-sources, then it can't be gentoo-sources now can it?
<6> mad93: vincultated?
<8> @blackace: I understand. so how can I add the fbsplash patch
<4> but when the cpu at low cpu freq the heat produced by the cpu is low but the heat produced by the graphical card is the same
<9> mad93: I have no idea what you're talking about, but your hardware questions are off-topic here, you might try #hardware
<4> i'm trying to solve mi hard problems via software
<6> mad93: did you try lm_sensors?
<4> i'm trying now
<4> i must recompile the kernel for i2c suport
<9> OfficerHotpants: you have to patch your kernel, which is far too much for me to cover on irc, you'll need to find some howto
<16> mad93, no - make it as modules
<8> okay. i'll do that
<4> ok NeddySeagoon
<8> gentoo docs might have something
<8> cya
<6> mad93: just enable it and modprobe it.
<16> mad93, then you only do make modules make modules_install
<16> mad93, then modprobe ... no copy to /boot no reboot
<4> i don't find were is i2c-dev
<17> how can i switch my screen to 75hz instead of 60hz? my eyes are not so happy with 60, but the xserver needs to keep running!
<18> what is some good software to manage users & groups in gentoo?
<3> chi, if you use kde there is kuser
<6> NeddySeagoon, blackace: I have moral issues with X-dependent music apps like xmms and audacious, so I am migrating to mpd, but can't figure out how to add a graphic equalizer. any ideas? do I need jack?
<9> chi: I use vipw and vigr
<19> i have a problem with RAID, this thread is my situation, http://marc2.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-raid&m=108784956811644&w=2
<18> fluxbox
<16> nanobanshee, Whats mpd ?
<20> hello people
<5> roger: works, thanks alot dude!!!
<6> NeddySeagoon: the music player daemon. runs in the background.
<20> i am planning to take part in google summer of code
<3> NeddySeagoon, http://www.musicpd.org
<4> i've compiled the module i2c-core

<20> i need suggestions from gentoo community for my proposal
<6> NeddySeagoon: I could write a book about xmms2 and audacious --headless, but I'd rather not.
<4> but i don't have the i2c-dev that asks lm_sensors
<18> blackace, are vipw and vigr part of a larger package? because im finding neither
<6> mad93: searched in menuconfig using / ?
<4> using?
<4> i don't know what you mean by /
<6> mad93: in make menuconfig, you can search by hitting /
<21> Im getting an !!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=dev-libs/glib-2.9.3" have been masked. error trying to emerge pretty much anything
<22> the latest version of mplayer is failing to compile when i try to emerge -uD world, how can i skip over it?
<16> nanobanshee, no idea, sorry
<21> it sais not to unmask anything too,.. any way I can make it use a safter version of glib or somthing?
<3> n_, what do you type?
<6> NeddySeagoon: darn. I take it you use regular, vanilla xmms/amarok/audacious?
<21> emerge mozilla
<21> or emerge dia
<21> etc.
<4> thanks nanobanshee
<23> I'm in need of a packet sniffer [to use on gentoo of course], which one would you suggest? I need something that doesn't take days to learn ^.^ So a handy GUI if possible..
<17> what should i use, dvdrtools or cdr.prodvd?
<16> nanobanshee, I don't use mp3 because it sounds terrible and the graphic equalisers only work well with mp3
<1> DuClare: ethereal is waht you want
<3> n_, what wants that glib version?
<21> mozilla claims to
<16> nanobanshee, my music collection is stored as flac
<23> iamben: thanks a lot, I'll try that
<22> the latest version of mplayer is failing to compile when i try to emerge -uD world, how can i skip over it?
<3> n_, what version exactly?
<6> NeddySeagoon: fair enough. I'll keep googling.
<1> chibi_killstick: skip it for now w/ emerge --resume --skipfirst, or skip it permanently by masking it in package.mask
<21> ahh (dependency required by "gnome-base/gnome-vfs-2.14.0" [ebuild])
<22> iamben, so emerge --resume --skipfirst -uD world?
<3> n_, gnome-2.14 is package masked, no?
<1> chibi_killstick: leave off the -uD, --resume will cover that
<22> iamben, ok, thanks
<21> mozilla is wanting that gnome vfs package for some reason
<24> anyone know the name of that gnome program that does spreadsheets?
<14> openoffice ?
<6> tty1: gnumeric.
<21> I think it has broken my system somehow when I tried taking out the gnome components with emerge -C and just leaving it with the kde stuff
<1> n_: that wouldnt happen unless you attempted to unmask gnome 2.14.0, and the mask file specifically says "do not unmask this" =)
<21> everything still runs..
<24> nanobanshee: thanks
<21> I havent emerged any gnome stuff for the last 6 months
<25> quit
<26> What does the following command do?
<26> USE="gnome" emerge -av app-office/openoffice
<23> "emerge net-analyzer/ethereal".. this will install ethereal, but does it have a gui, or do I have to get something else along?
<3> n_, probably something in /etc/portage/package.unmask
<21> ahh there was a gnome.vfs mask hidden somewhere back there from way back
<1> DuClare: i'd make sure you have the gtk flag enabled
<21> thanks guys
<23> ah.
<1> rakeyry: compiles openoffice w/ gnome support
<23> I always do emerge -pv before emerging so I can quickly see the flags :)
<26> iamben Does this emerge open office as well? I already have open office?
<1> rakeyry: it jsut rebuilds it w/ the gnome use flag, whatever that implies
<1> rakeyry: and let me take this time to suggest using openoffice-bin if possible =)
<21> can I emerge mozilla without the gnome librarys using useflags somehow btw?
<6> rakeyry: it takes hours and hours.
<26> iamben But I already have open office...
<6> rakeyry: don't do it then.
<1> rakeyry: why are you even asking about this? who told you to run that command, and why?
<26> nanobanshee See, I am trying to make OpenOffice blend in with my GNOME environment. How do I do it then?
<27> Does anyone has lm_sensors installed ??
<5> has anyone compiled kde with alsa support and without arts support and got sound?
<27> I need help with lm_sensosrs
<27> DaggyStyle, I did it once, I failed
<1> rakeyry: you will need to rebuild the whole thing if you didnt enable the gnome use flag to begin w/, but if you are on broadband i'd just unmerge openoffice and go w/ openoffice-bin.. after the ~100M download, it takes ~60 seconds to install instead of 10 hours or whatever it is to compile
<28> how failed?
<5> z10: failed in what port?
<27> I did not get sound
<5> z10: point?
<1> DaggyStyle: kde system sounds? no, you do need arts for that, unfortunately
