<0> rhadoo: it does have a code listing, in chapter 7, section b
<1> richiefrich: is that the only way? i have a very poor connection (8k/s, don't laugh), and i would really need the kernel sources alone
<2> rhadoo: You said you did a sync?
<3> were there any changes to the baselayout or something so that net.ethx now modprobes modules autoamtically?
<4> rhadoo, unless u have a distro files disc
<1> well, blackace... it's supposed to be under the USE="-doc symlink" right? cause my links is scrolling right p***ed
<1> USE... is the first and last line of the listing that i can see
<0> rhadoo: ...you need to read more carefully.
<1> well it's not my reading, it's that i can't see the listing there
<1> the USE line comes up on the last line on the screen
<1> when i press down, i get the next page, starting a new paragraph
<0> rhadoo: look right, keep reading past the USE, past the " past the -doc past the symlink past the second "...
<0> rhadoo: I wouldn't be surprised to learn you've skipped so many things your install won't boot.
<1> as if the USE line was the only one in the listing
<5> blackace, have you found an error in my /etc/modules.d/alsa?
<4> rhadoo, emerge gentoo-sources <-- thats what u need

<0> zet: well, it doesn't look much like mine at all...I did mine by hand, and I have some lines relating to OSS mixer stuff
<1> ok... i'll emerge the sources
<2> rhadoo: Once you've done a sync you're in tune with the rest of the Gentoo world and the packages on the CD will be too out of date for portage to want to install them without a significant amount of extra effort. Consequently it will want to download most everything you install. No way to avoid the downloading really.
<6> i followed the nvidia howto and i got the white splash screen, but direct rendering wont turn on..
<1> somebody smack me over the head please... i didn't read the whole line...
<1> after USE... lol i just saw the emerge
<7> bill-barriere
<2> :)
<1> thanks everybody for the help
<8> could it cause issues to start emerge twice?
<6> the command in the nvidia howto "opengl-update nvidia" doesnt even exist..
<2> np
<5> blackace, could you tell me what I need to do in order to discard all changes in my kernel, remove alsa and start from the beginnig of the alsa guide
<7> sorry, had cursor over something, meant to say: does anybody know how to reset my tty that doesn't have a login on it?
<9> stimpie, not in a perfect world ;)
<0> zet: http://rafb.net/paste/results/pia5Ln36.html
<0> zet: no, I don't use genkernel, sorry
<8> micmac, well my pc is perfect ;-)
<9> stimpie, :) give it shot then. Should work. But there won't be a speed advantage, of course. It could be even worse.
<0> stimpie: could, yes
<0> fluxdude: which tty would that be?
<5> anyone here who can tell me how I can discard the changes in my kernel and remove alsa in order to restart from the alsaguide (I'm using gekernel)
<4> zet just run --> genkernel --menuconfig all
<8> on ubuntu I needed to add "notsc" to prevent clock skew on my dual core amd64 I ***ume this is needed with gentoo aswell?
<5> richiefrich, thank you!
<4> zet, np hope it helps
<9> stimpie, at least gentoo wont use notsc by default
<9> stimpie, but maybe the fixed this in later kernels. Maybe you give it a shot with notsc first.
<8> ok I will
<10> helloo
<5> ah yes
<10> anyway to convert an SRPMS in a gentoo ebuild or package ?
<5> one more thing, how do I use my USB pendrive under gentoo
<4> zet make sure u set it up in your kernel
<5> ok
<11> anyone know a good webcam util that lets you omve the cam?
<4> zet under Device --> USB
<12> hi
<5> richiefrich, yes ty I'll try to setup alsa first ;)
<5> I've found a very bad mistake in the Nvidia guide
<13> what mistake zet?
<14> anybody to know when to expect that gentoo developers to remove the hard mask over the GCC4.1.0 ?
<15> very often when I type a command on the console it says command not found and then I type source /etc/profile and run the command again.. is there a permanent fix for that?
<16> hawking: when do you get this
<16> when using su?
<7> blackace: tty12 has got garbled chars but there is no login on it, it's a dump from my logger....
<5> b4ka, in the nvida guide there is a step missing look at this thread http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-451255-highlight-screens.html . it was the same problem like with me yesterday. you have to run NVmakedevices.sh after setting up the xorg.conf otherwise your screen will go black and there is a errormessage like "screens found, but none have a useable configuration" .
<17> hi
<5> ah
<6> i can't get PORTDIR_OVERLAY to work for XGL. when i type "emerge xgl" it says "emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "xgl".
<5> b4ka, nevermind it was updated
<18> is suppose my world file is getting pretty cluttered - any easy way to remove unneeded entries?
<15> Po0ky: well many commands
<17> im having some troubles with xscreensaver, it is not accepting my p***word, anyone is having the same issue?
<15> Po0ky: not only su
<19> adamt: unmerge the stuff you don't want/need...
<18> Skunky: not exacly what i thought about
<19> adamt: well, you don't want to be removing entries out of the world file if the packages are still installed on the system.
<18> i was thinking along the lines of howto's like the XGL-one that talks about using oneshot

<19> xxMEL0Nxx: xscreensaver is probably unhappy with it's pam config.
<19> adamt: if you --oneshot, you don't get entries in the world file.
<16> hawking: you can put source /etc/profile in your .bashrc
<14> anybody to know when to expect that gentoo developers to remove the hard mask over the GCC4.1.0 ?
<16> hawking: yes, but i mean, do you get this behaviour after using su... :)
<17> Skunky: how can i fix the pam file?
<18> Skunky: yes i know that.
<19> xxMEL0Nxx: well, I'd say first you need to run dispatch-conf or etc-update and make sure you've got the right config files for the versions of stuff you've got.
<15> Po0ky: yeah
<18> Skunky: in other words, it sounds like not all entries are actually needed.
<15> Po0ky: is that a bug or smth?
<16> no, its because the directory /sbin is only in the profile for root... and if you use su, the profile doesn't get updated
<16> you can fix this by using "su -"
<17> Skunky: done
<20> hi, there is a tool for see if any key of the keyboard is pressed?
<19> adamt: if you remove something from the world file, then portage isn't gonna know you've got it installed, keeping it updated will be... not as easy as it should be.
<19> mad93: xev, if you're in X...
<20> thanks SkramX
<20> Skunky:
<21> how to recompile programs that already installed?
<22> emerge package
<23> just emerge them again koasd
<18> Skunky: so why do so many howto's propose to use oneshot at all?
<24> hi! u guys already using xgl under gentoo ?
<19> adamt: Um. Likely cuz the people who're writing them don't understand how to use the files in /etc/portage correctly
<19> Unskill3d: please read the /topic (:
<25> Hi :-) Is there a possibility to escape a frameset with php or Perl without user interaction? If I do a HTTP redirect in a frameset, the target page is still inside that frame ...
<22> klaaner-libby, wrong channel? :p
<25> JohnRobert: No, I think the Gentoo filks are Geek enough to know such stuff (exept me ;-)
<25> JohnRobert: Or ... would you know a better channel?
<20> i've a laptop width kde and is showing always the volume control
<14> anybody to know when to expect that gentoo developers to remove the hard mask over the GCC4.1.0 ?
<22> hmm
<21> how to search packages?
<20> like the key of volume down is constantly pressed
<22> koasd, emerge search package
<26> klaner: you need to specify a 'target' attribute to the link.
<20> but with xev seems to work well
<22> klaaner-libby, I don't think it's possible to do that with a redirect
<22> it may be possible with a meta refresh though
<22> besides, frames = horrible
<25> Well, that's the problem ...
<25> Frames ARE horrible
<22> don't use them then
<22> if you're forced into a frameset, there's probably a javascript solution to get out of it
<14> koasd: # man emerge is short and very relevant
<25> But when you get a .de domain for 19 cent per month, it's nothing but a frameset where a site of your chice can be loaded in tne one frame and the other isn't visible ... so I search an elegant way to escape that frameset
<14> koasd: try it 1th
<22> 1th?
<22> :)
<21> ok
<22> firth? :P
<14> koasd: # man emerge
<25> It works with an xhtml transitional document and a a href with target="_top" ... but the user has still to do one click
<22> yeah
<22> you'll be able to use javascript to do the same thing
<22> in a page load function, document.reload() or something
<22> I don't know javascript
<17> Skunky: I modified xscreensaver in pam.d and changed system-auth to pam_permit.so, that fixed the problem
<17> Skunky:thanks
<22> just pay for a proper domain anyway :p
<21> what is the latest version of portage?
<18> klaaner-libby: a real domain should cost about 10 euros /year...
<18> koasd: look at packages.gentoo.org
<25> adamt: well, my other comains do (like www.nasauber.de ) -- but I have other ones just for fun
<25> And I don't want to pay more ;-)
<22> adamt, his domain obviously comes with space though
<18> JohnRobert: but who want a domain-name they can't control? =/
<25> adamt: it's just that I own that domain
<25> Later, I'll make a "real" domain with webspace
<25> e.g. www.dr-leupold.de
<25> I'm not still Dr.
<25> But in perhaps 3 years :-)
<22> adamt, dunno
