<0> yeah i see what you mean,
<0> i'm pretty sure you can rebuild it with kcontrol args, or something
<0> but as to how, not sure
<0> every time i upgrade kde, i make a backup
<0> incase stuff like this =/
<1> frostburn: I don't think the relevant files have been deleted. Have there been changes in directory infrastructure fpor kde?
<0> not sure
<2> dystopianray: well if you know how to fix it plz tell me
<1> frostburn: do you know where those files are stored? (for quicklaunch icons)
<3> smarco: I don't have a solution, you'll probably have to play with the charset and font settings
<4> anyone tried/using gnustep?
<5> exit
<6> Which video application should i use for TV capture ?
<6> watching TV
<7> Ghotcom, tvtime, mythtv awtv(sp?)
<7> Ghotcom, I use tvtime myself, it's very simple

<7> dep. free
<0> hmmmmmm, cire i found the one for 3.4 not sure about 3.5 now
<1> frostburn: this would be a great help
<8> ni1s: what tuner card do you use? i'm looking to replace my AiW 9000 as it seems like it'll never have functional linux support
<7> pioto, a really cheap Pinnacle card, i50 or something like that, using the SAA7134
<0> ~/.config/menus
<8> ni1s: what tv standard does that drive? ntsc? or pal?
<7> pioto, PAL
<8> ah, nevermind hten
<9> anyone here worked with lvm?
<10> so... kojiro did ya quit or did ya die?
<6> ni1s: hi, yeah, I take notes. Which TV device do you have ?
<11> kyron: I got me a new kernel :-P
<6> ni1s: I've got a Hauppauge Win TV USb
<10> kojiro, wooooo
<12> im back
<12> still ne ideas?
<10> kojiro, kick or slap this time?
<13> or ban?
<14> hi
<12> kojiro?
<7> Ghotcom, dmesg tells me Pinnacle PCTV 40i/50i/110i (saa7133)
<12> could u help me again please?
<11> zirex: I'm outta ideas
<15> hello, anyone knows a qt based development environment? there used to be a nice one, but I dont remember the name
<7> Ghotcom, I think I got the 50i
<16> anyone use Rhythmbox on a non gnome wm?
<14> hi?
<16> s3g qtdesigner?
<15> feesh: no. that is the trolltech one
<15> there is a IDE
<16> sorry s3g thats the extent of my knowledge
<16> anyone know how to configure gstreamer without gstreamer-config ?
<8> feesh: hmm... are you running into problems with icons and such in rhythmbox?
<8> feesh: oh, hmm...
<8> feesh: i personally think apps so tightly bound to gnome are a majjjor pain to get to work w/o gnome installed
<16> pioto, ive managed to play music through gst-launch, but I can't set which sink :S to use. it looks for osssink but i need to use alsasink
<11> kyron, koudelkaaa, ban :-)
<16> pioto: yeah no kidding :(
<16> there is no "if you don't have gnome do this"
<8> feesh: have you ever looked at mpd? it'll play everything rhythmbox will, and it just uses libao, so sooo much bloat
<17> feesh: id recommend just turning on oss emulation and beind one with it. at least then osssik will work
<14> please can you tell me what a "frame buffer" is?
<8> feesh: well, it won't do the daap stuff, but it'll do ogg, mp3, aac, etc
<18> hi guys..i need help on mplayer...when i double click a movie file..then put it in fullscreen...the output video is small?any idea?
<16> pioto: well I use mocp, but I was intrested with the concept of gstreamer, but I think I have been mislead
<0> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_buffer
<12> i dont understand this
<16> _AxS_: I do have oss emulation though :S
<8> feesh: i think gstreamer is a huge nightmare
<17> VoFFoV: 'frames' are memory maps of pixels that get output to your screen. a frame buffer is a memory buffer of these frames that software (kernel) draws to, and then later flops onto your screen.
<12> i can ping network
<12> but no internetwork
<11> zirex: does networking work if you boot to, say, the liveCD?
<16> pioto: I'm thinking the same thing heh
<17> feesh: oh.. well thats messed.
<8> feesh: although i have a friend who just constructs gstreamer pipes on the command line to play mp3s and the like...
<17> VoFFoV: that's not entirely accurate, but should work as a general description...
<8> so it surely must be possible
<12> yeh

<16> it's all good knowing you can just tell gstreamer you wont sound, but if it is this hard to set up then there is no point
<12> the network works
<12> ifconfig
<12> shows setup all correcetly
<12> and i am on the livecd
<16> pioto: gst-launch-0.8 playbin filesrc location=file.mp3 works
<17> VoFFoV: essentially it allows software to draw arbitrary graphics on the screen.
<14> _AxS_ when i try the 2006.0 livecd i dont think the frame buffer works on my older system
<16> but I just feel so damn angry that rhythmbox has no config dialog, and poor CLI interface, though I have a feeling it is out of the scope of rhythmbox
<8> feesh: why not just mpg123 file.mp3 or play file.wav? :-p
<8> feesh: yeah, rhythmbox just gives stuff to gstreamer and says "play this"
<16> pioto: i was originally intrested in developing an app myself to play music and what not, but I usually just use moc
<17> VoFFoV: the framebuffer support on the livecd uses VESA, so your system's gotta be pretty old for that not to be supported.. it might be your monitor?
<12> any ideas?@
<8> feesh: but i think if you have a full gstreamer install there should be a gui config you can get at... i forget what it's called atm [i'm living in console land right now]
<0> what kind of router/firewall do you have, zirex
<12> nothin
<12> at moment
<12> so hack away...:P
<16> pioto: the gui config only comes with gnome
<0> how is it connected to the net?
<17> zirex: still no worky? can you share internet with other computers?
<14> _AxS_ its on old moniter the manafucture date is on the back (december 1997)
<16> gstreamer-config, and there is another app, gst-editor but I can;t find that :(
<12> i could
<12> yeh
<17> VoFFoV: do you know the stats for it? ie, will it do 1024x768@60Hz?
<8> feesh: it may be a seperate ebuild?
<16> ive done a bit of esearching, but no dice
<16> it's no biggy, just really annoying heh
<12> maybe ill try networking in windows...
<8> feesh: esearch? switch to eix... much faster and smarter...
<12> what do u think?
<14> _AxS_ it managed a much higher res and refresh rate when i used windows on it
<16> :O ? eix you say?
<8> feesh: i think now it can dynamically update itself w/o running an update command
<17> VoFFoV: hm. well it should be working then.
<16> esync = harsh
<8> feesh: yes, eix
<17> VoFFoV: did you try booting with 'nofb' option? maybe X will work on it
<16> emerging away
<16> I'm still getting wierd driver errors with my skge yukon 1kmbit NIC
<19> hey here anybody can tell me how to resize a selection while keeping the propotions in gimp?
<14> no i didnt, i just inserted the cd and waited untill the desktop was shown
<16> even more so now :(
<14> +
<17> VoFFoV: ..ok well did you see the pretty splash images while you were booting?
<14> no
<20> DarthVader mplayer behaves like that if you use -vo x11
<14> plain text
<14> it works fine with my other PC and that has an LCD screen
<17> VoFFoV: ok. then yes it seems you have a framebuffer issue.. did X still start?
<14> no
<19> no gimp user here?
<12> ok
<12> ne12345 help?
<17> VoFFoV: oh, so there may be more issues then. check what /var/log/Xorg.0.log reports, that might give you a clue as to why both of these things don't work.
<8> DJGummikuh: hmm, maybe the scale function?
<17> DJGummikuh: sup?
<19> pioto: well so I guessed
<16> DJGummikuh: i've been known to dabble in gimp
<14> ok
<17> DJGummikuh: i think its holding down shift when you do it.. either that or alt.
<19> pioto: problem is I don't know how to tell the scale function to scale without messing the propotions
<19> _AxS_: tried that as well, didn't work...
<17> DJGummikuh: this is drag/resize right? or scale whole image?
<8> DJGummikuh: uhh... i thought that's just how it did it?
<8> DJGummikuh: keeping it at a 1:1 ratio to what it was before
<19> _AxS_: well I have a selection
<17> yeah it might be default now that i think of it...
<19> pioto: by doing what?
<17> that would be the most usable
<19> that is odd... I got it resizing happily without giving me a chance to prevent that :)
<17> DJGummikuh: im starting it, tell you in a sec
