Comments:

<0> Kimusan: Did you hear me??
<1> RiverRat: yeah :-)
<1> [ebuild N ] kde-base/kdebase-kioslaves-3.4.3 USE="-arts -debug -hal -kdeenablefinal ldap -openexr samba xinerama" 0 kB
<2> do i need to restart X?
<1> [ebuild N ] dev-libs/cyrus-sasl-2.1.21-r2 USE="-authdaemond berkdb crypt -gdbm -java -kerberos -ldap -mysql -ntlm_unsupported_patch pam -postgres -sample -srp ssl -urandom"
<0> Kimusan: Good, cause the capital -C is a bad thing.
<1> yes
<1> could it be ldap?
<3> LinuxMafia : And to go back eselect opengl set nvidia. But I've found that eselect deletes libGL.so and libGLcore.so symlinks at /usr/lib so I have to symlink them each time I want to switch back to nvidia
<2> Couldn't set video mode: Couldn't find matching GLX visual
<0> Kimusan: What is the problem?
<0> Luthien: amd64?
<3> No, I'm on x86
<0> LinuxMafia: Are you on amd64?
<2> RiverRat, yes
<0> Luthien: Well there is something about that linked to at the bottom of Bug 109922. I thought it was a dupe but it wasn't.

<4> RiverRat: http://bugs.gentoo.org/109922 nor, P2, AMD64, darktama@iinet.net.au->eradicator@gentoo.org, RESOLVED, FIXED, eselect-opengl points GL headers at emul libraries on amd64.
<0> LinuxMafia: Then see the above bug for a fix.
<1> RiverRat: cyrus-sasl fails compile when installing amarok. So I'm looking for a wway to _not_ need to install cyrus
<2> jeeves, thanks
<0> jeeves is a bot.
<1> RiverRat: k, not possible it seems
<1> I removed ldap support for kio-slaves and it still wants to be installed
<0> Kimusan: I'm not that familiar w/ KDE stuff so I don't know.
<5> Kimusan: waht is pulling in cyrus-sasl?
<0> Kimusan: Sis you set the USE flag of -ldap ?
<6> what do I need to emerge to be able to encode ac3 with transcoding/dvd::rip? In the Audio encoding I don;t have the AC3 tab.
<6> But on this screenshot, there is one: http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/lib/window.cipp?width=820&height=682&img=/dvdrip/doc/img/shots/transcode.png
<0> Kimusan: rafb.net/paste the output of "emerge -avDt amarok" for me to see.
<0> nwo: Is there an ac3 USE flag for mplayer?
<1> dystopianray and RiverRat I'll paste that to blabla-paste - in a sec
<2> RiverRat, i needed to restart X
<6> RiverRat: at least its not called "ac3". Maybe something else
<0> LinuxMafia: Most likely
<5> nwo: I think it's a52 use flag or something
<2> RiverRat, last time it happend to me i set the opengl to xorg-x11 then switch it back to nvidia , and it worked
<1> RiverRat: http://rafb.net/paste/results/75TLBf73.html
<1> dystopianray: check that http://rafb.net/paste/results/75TLBf73.html
<0> LinuxMafia: I used Herb's patch at the bottom of that bug.
<2> RiverRat, gentoo needs more work on AMD64
<6> dystopianray: a52: Enables support for decoding ATSC A/52 streams used in DVD
<0> LinuxMafia: Become an AT.
<7> AT?
<6> dystopianray: whatever that means. But I have that useflag enabled
<5> nwo: aka ac3
<2> RiverRat, i can not get gyach installed and lots of ebuilds are masked
<5> nwo: ah ok, no idea then
<0> Kimusan: Sorry, nothing is jumping out at me. Perhaps amarok requires sasl to work.
<2> RiverRat, i hate C , can i become an AT without C?
<8> Is apache-2.2 usable?
<0> GoY`: Arch Tester.
<0> LinuxMafia: Ask hparker tomorrow.
<5> Kimusan: does the samba use flag make it require cyrus-sasl?
<2> RiverRat, ok cool
<0> dystopianray++
<1> ok, cheking samba
<5> I'd imagine cyrus-sasl would be used for authenticatino with samba shares
<0> nwo: What about the aac USE flag for mplayer?
<9> Can I create my own groups? And in that case, is there a way to display all of the available groups?
<1> dystopianray: whatever I do with USE it still wants sasl
<0> allievo: yes, cat /etc/group
<9> RiverRat: Thank you! :)
<0> groupadd
<6> RiverRat: mplayer does not have ac3 or a52. I found a52 only with transcode
<5> Kimusan: ah, checking the ebuild it requires cyrus-sasl, waht exactly is the error with it?
<1> new paste coming
<6> RiverRat: do zou suggest trying mencoder for ripping?
<10> Exception received during 'Unpack stage tarball': GLIUtilityError :FATAL: fetch_and_unpack_tarball: Could not unpack http://pandemonium.tiscali.de/pub/gentoo/releases/x86/2006.0/stages/stage3-x86-2006.0.tar.bz2 to /mnt/gentoo
<0> mortem: If you'd like a voice as a tor user then join #gentoo-ops
<11> Error during GUI install, could I have made a mistake with mountpoints?
<0> nwo: I don't rip so I don't know. I was just guessing.
<12> how do you see all USE flags for the packages I am about to emerge?
<0> pippijn: Use the -av flags to emerge
<13> pippijn: emerge -av
<12> thanks
<12> that's nice

<0> allievo: Did you find 'groupadd' yet?
<1> While it's trying I have another question - How do I 'loop-mount' a dvd-iso?
<14> hi
<14> how can i learn partitions on my system ?
<14> and partition numbers
<9> RiverRat: Um, yeah, but I'm not about to add a new group now; I just wanted to know if I could (For future usage)
<5> Kimusan: mount -o loop pathtoiso /mnt/blah
<15> mount -o loop
<5> Kimusan: I know xine (and players taht use it) can read straight from an iso without needing it mounted
<9> sfx_: fdisk
<14> allievo: thanks
<14> fdisk -l :)
<0> allievo: Feel free to add a group just leave the ones below 100 for the system. And maybe even below 1000 too as there may be a change coming along. :)
<12> if I re-emerge for example xorg, will emerge automatically delete those packages that are no longer needed because the USE flag is gone?
<1> dystopianray: http://nopaste.php-q.net/203691 and thx for info on mount
<9> sfx_: np :)
<1> yes, but I need to read from a dvd-iso, not amovie
<9> RiverRat: Yeah, thank you for you help :)
<5> Kimusan: well the mount command is the same for any sort of dvd
<5> Kimusan: or iso in general
<16> UGH, gentoo still refuses to see my actual drive geometry.
<17> RiverRat: and also, if someone asks again why dmesg shows all that evdebug.c crap, tell them to disable event debugging in device/inputdevices in the kernel :P
<16> Still thinks it's 16929/15/63, or 8190MB.
<0> sirpreis: Ok, I think I have it enabled but it isn't bad compared to the iptables logging. :/
<1> dystopianray: ok, I don't have /dev/loop, so not allowed. Can't I use dev/mapper instead in some way?
<17> well, my /var/ log is ~800mb :/
<16> It's really 39070080 sectors or something like 20GB
<0> Kimusan: mknod will create a device entry for you.
<16> but it's absolutely refusing to detect thus :/
<5> Kimusan: ah I'm not sure, but you should have a kernel compiled with loopback device support
<5> Kimusan: CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP=y
<0> tgies: lilo (and perhaps grub) have tricks they can play to help Linux 'see' the drive right.
<1> yea, which I shouldn't have since I'm using cryptsetup, which doesn't agree with /dev/loop (afaik)
<0> Kimusan: Yeah, you need loop support.
<18> hi
<0> Kimusan: dystopianray That can be enabled as a module and then inserted into the running kernel though.
<16> RiverRat: like hda=stroke (makes ide_setup say "BAD OPTION") and hd=CHS (gets totally ignored)?
<0> hi
<1> mmm, and I don't think that works all that well with dm-crypt
<16> besides, I'm working with ISOLINUX right now -- I'm trying to install
<0> tgies: I don't remember. I haven't had to use them for years. :/
<19> what apps/services do I have to run to work as mail server with pop3 support?
<18> is it possible to change something on extracted source and after that emerge use this changed source and does not extract the old one?
<16> of course it would help if my computer wasn't about ten years old.
<20> Contour, I use postfix + qpopper but there are other options :-)
<0> Fide: Yes but you need to look into portage overlays or some strange FEATURES settings that I don't want to mention in the n00b channel.
<16> ("3300C" laptop rebadged by dozens of companies)
<5> is there any possibility of having USB ATA p***thru, for getting SMART info and other things out of hdds in those usb enclosures?
<0> Contour: And don't forget the invaluable spamd
<16> I've got the latest BIOS and everything (the bios likes to think hda has a capacity of 0MB)
<19> jintxo: I want something small and easy to install :) I just bought another domain and I want to host it myself (a, mx)
<19> RiverRat: thanks :)
<0> dystopianray: Sure there is. Just send Linus a patch! Other than that you may need to start Googling for something that already exists.
<16> apparently this has just worked out of the box for others
<5> RiverRat: well what I mean is, is it actually technically possible to p*** ATA commands to the drive over USB ?
<0> tgies: Have you tried to boot w/ a Gentoo boot CD to see what happens?
<16> RiverRat: I am working with the LiveCD. Is that what you mean?
<0> dystopianray: That depends on how the drive is designed and I can't answer that.
<0> tgies: Yes, hermm, I can't think of anything else to try. Did you tell grub to ignore the BIOS?
<21> How to enable framebuffer for the console ?
<5> |lostbyte| there is a gentoo wiki article about it
<22> I get a '/dev/sdd1/' is already mounted - but when I do a umount /dev/sdd1 I get a 'is not mounted' any suggesstions?:)
<21> dystopianray: :) ok .tx
<16> RiverRat: There is no grub. It boots from a CD into ISOLINUX. Specifying the drive geometry via the "hd=C,H,S" method gets ignored. Specifying "hda=stroke" causes ise_setup to say "BAD OPTION".
<15> |lostbyte|: did you compiled CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE set to yes ?
<1> How can I see what ebuild that contains hmac-md5? Then I could perhaps upgrade that to make sasl happy.
<21> mortem: i am on a fresh gentoo install..
<15> |lostbyte|: didn't compile kernel yet?
<0> tgies: Well you seem to have read more about it than I have so all I can do is wish you luck. And mention the #gentoo-laptop channel. :)
<21> mortem: I am on livecd-kernel.
<23> goodi_: you need to umount the path where it's mounted to. Use 'df' and see where /dev/sdd1 is mounted
<16> .join #gentoo-laptop
<16> oop.
<15> |lostbyte|: you need to compile the CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE set to y
