<0> Redbearded: check the forums, there have been a few threads about it
<1> mark_alec: Hmm, ok_
<1> Do you know about any fix or workaround for it?
<2> I'm having a problem with udev rules...I made a rule for my usb stick which worked before, now I compiled a hardened kernel and when I do udevinfo -a -p /sys/block/sda I get some info about the device, and a line that says "couldn't open device directory"
<2> the stick has one fat partition
<0> Redbearded: try chaging your mirror
<2> I think this is because of some restriction I set, but not sure since I'm doing this as root anyway..
<3> Heh, speaking of GTK+ and smoothscroll. I'm doing GTK+ now. :)
<4> i have three terminals open on a screen. after a while when i select on terminal the cursor in the other no longer stops blinking and does not turn to outline of cursor, it just keeps blinking as normal cursor. this is minor but very annoying
<1> Psi-Jack: rude!! :(
<5> hi who can sand my
<5> libstdc++.so.5 ?
<3> Redbearded: No, literally. It /just now/ started.
<6> hi. how can i get usefull information why my designer segfaults?
<3> Redbearded: I had no problems. Try a different mirror.
<2> gast your designer probably has faulty AI

<2> ;)
<6> :)
<6> i need information _why_ it segfaults. strace just says there missin some libs, but somone sayd yesterday thats not reasonable for the segfault
<2> how about gdb?
<6> dont know how to comile qt with debugging info
<2> oh...qt
<6> --with-debug ?
<6> yeah designer comes out of qt
<2> sounds appropriate at least
<3> gast: Whoever said that could be wrong. If a program is missing a require library, and it calls upon it and it fails, it could cause a segfault.
<6> seems these libs are missing couse it searches in /usr/locale/en_US instead of de_DE
<6> but the $LANG is set to de_DE
<1> Psi-Jack: I wget the file directly in to the portage directory now instead... hopefully works
<6> even the $LC_ALL is set to de_DE
<3> Redbearded: Yeah! That'll work..
<1> Psi-Jack: yup seems like it did... emerge is getting GTK+ now... >(
<1> ups
<1> :)
<6> this LANG is totaly crap. now it says access("/usr/kde/3.5/share/locale/de_DE@euro/LC_MESSAGES/kdepimwidgets.mo", R_OK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
<1> I've spent since like 8 this morning compiling X
<1> highly annoying
<3> Heh. I have 24 packages to emerge till I finally have mozilla-firefox-bin. heh
<1> Psi-Jack: hehe Welcome to my world :)
<3> Redbearded: No no no. Welcome to mine. I had to re-do my entire system because ext3 got trashed.
<1> Psi-Jack: my only way to surf here is an old Sun Ultra 5 station
<7> hi guys, can anybody tell me what the vanilla /etc/resolv.conf contained?
<1> Psi-Jack: oh :(
<7> besides the nameserver entries, that is
<6> why does it try to access /home/gast/.kde/share/locale/en_US/LC_MESSAGES/kdelibs.mo ???
<1> Psi-Jack: ReiserFS 4tw!
<3> Redbearded: LOL. I have other computers, here.. A TabletPC, a PDA, several other computers..
<3> Reiser4 is BETA.
<1> Psi-Jack: Well I'm at work :)
<8> ootput_: There's usually a "domain" line. I think it defaults to "domain localdomain" but I could be wrong
<3> Heh, using a beta filesystem, especially one with a past track record as Reiser, is just a very bad idea. ;)
<8> Mine's currently set by my DHCP
<9> using ${var} style variables, how can I return the last three characters of a string? I've tried several combinations such as ${var:-3} etc, but can't find one that works. Anyone?
<1> Psi-Jack: nah, I like living on the edge
<7> AllenJB: oh
<7> AllenJB: i was thinking there was a line that referenced /etc/hosts
<3> Redbearded: Oh. I live on the edge, a bit. Just not THAT far.
<1> Psi-Jack: :D
<3> Hmm. Now I need to re-learn how to use screen. heh
<1> Bah I wish for a gentoo with BSD-init
<1> or rather... gifv solaris 10
<1> Bah uselessly slow machine....
<1> takes forever to compile this crap :(
<10> giorno
<11> is there is kInstaller for gnetoo
<11> *gentoo
<12> how to find exactly how many package that i already install in my gentoo
<13> KhairulNizam, in your world-file
<14> is there an installer for Gentoo? Nope, you have to install it via the LiveCD
<1> Yes there is an installer for gentoo...
<1> it is still in beta or alpha...
<1> haven't tried it myself but there is one
<13> KhairulNizam, in your world-file, it's located @ /var/lib/portage/world
<15> hi
<14> huh.. news to me Redbearded
<15> any one knows why i get this error? localhost kl1 # ./RealPlayer10GOLD.bin
<15> bash: ./RealPlayer10GOLD.bin: Permission denied

<11> is there's a pkg for KInstaller in gentoo
<11> ?????
<1> let me see if I can find it....
<1> D-N-A: uh just do a search for it
<16> kl1, you don't have permission to execute that file.
<11> i emerge --search kInstaller but i didn't find it
<17> KhairulNizam: emerge -ep world | nl ... about 5 or 10 too many tho
<15> AzMoo how can i give permission?
<18> kl1: you can try: bash ./RealPlayer10GOLD.bin
<13> D-N-A, it's because there are no kinstaller in portage
<16> kl1, chmod 755 filename
<19> Man my girl killed X while I was merging xorg-x11
<15> lepetitfou thats what i did
<15> AzMoo ok :)
<11> pontusen, why ?
<13> D-N-A, god knows
<1> wohooo gtk+ is all done
<13> diamonte, great. compiling is funny :P
<15> AzMoo thanks :)
<19> Does that mean that 'emerge --resume' will have to start completely over on xorg-org?
<19> xorg-x11*
<13> diamonte, it will continue where it broke. (im almost certain)
<20> hello
<17> diamonte: resume resumes whatever package was compiling last
<12> pontusen: thaks.. bz repairing suddenly ntldr missing.. problem.. now gentoo cannot boot.. how to just install lilo without linux partition..
<17> diamonte: but it starts over with that package
<21> hi
<20> i am in the prosses of installing gentoo and i forgot to set framebuffers on is there away i can set that on now or do i have to start over again?
<19> wide-eye: Thats what I was thinking but, hoping not
<21> what about a good textfile-based presentation program?
<13> KhairulNizam, you could try a livecd, and then chroot into your gentoo, and emerge it from there
<21> I'm not looking for something like powerooint
<16> kezza491, recompile your kernel and put it in.
<20> ok what was the commadn to configure the kernel?
<16> kezza491, haven't you done it already?
<20> yeah
<20> forgot the command
<19> ok i thought -j2 was only supposed to let 2 makes happen at the same time. I a getting make[5] and make[6]
<2> kezza491 go to kernel source directory (/usr/src/linux), then issue make menuconfig as root
<16> make menuconfig. Pretty easy. Go back to that part of the handbook and do the same thing as you did before.
<17> kezza491: cd /usr/src/linux ; make menuconfig; make modules_install; mount /boot ; cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/...
<20> thanks
<20> now do i have to set everything agian or will it pick up from last time?
<2> if you saved changes, you will continue where you left
<20> thank you
<12> pontusen: actually i deleted my linux partition to create new partition.. some how i just want to test wether my winxp can boot without linux partition... and somehow i think by deleting the "unused partition" last partition course that problem.. :/
<13> KhairulNizam, if you want to get winxp going again, start with a livecd, install lilo/grub to the mbr of the disk you have winxp on, and configure it according to the manual.
<16> KhairulNizam, do you want both gentoo and windows, or just windows?
<20> when i do make modules_install i get like nothing happening except for one l line of code what i do wrong?
<16> kezza491, make && make modules_install
<20> k thanks
<20> this takes a bit dose'nt it?
<22> hey people, i got a problem, i copied my linux installation from one partition on hd1 to another on hd0, now when trying to boot, i get the grub error 17
<22> and then it just stops booting
<12> AzMoo: right now i just want windows to boot back my tarball is back-up inside there with all the *necessary* thing for me to re-build gentoo..
<16> kezza491, depends on the speed of your box ;)
<17> knoppix: did you move /boot ?
<20> dang it lol :)
<2> knoppix what about grub config?
<2> knoppix does it still refer to hd0
<2> or err, hd1
<22> wide-eye: no, i just copied it 1:1from the original
<16> KhairulNizam, well, you could just boot with a windows boot disk and repair your mbr using fdisk /mbr, but I'd be more inclined to use the gentoo livecd and reinstall lilo or grub from there.
<22> joga: huh?
<23> Hi .. Can anyone tell me how to scan for wireless access points?
<22> thats a /boot/grub/menu.lst right?
<2> knoppix grub error 17 means "Cannot mount selected partition", and you refer to your boot partition in grub config
<2> yes
<2> or grub.conf
<17> knoppix: i think if you move /boot to a new partition you need to setup grub again
<24> is there any way to save gentoo if i get mesage: /usr/bin/python: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
<17> Matalo_: revdep-rebuild
<20> i dont seem to have to fb's tools is ther somthing else i need to do?
<4> Mnemonic^: iwlist ethX scan
