Which projects? <4> hi, when rebooted for first time after install, it gave me this error: fsck.ext3: no such file or directory while trying to open /dev/ROOT /dev/ROOT The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else) Then the superblock is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock.... Any ideas before i try running that e2fsck? btw. on root iam using ext3 <5> cl***ic <6> Nostur, you didn't edit your /etc/fstab <0> Nostur, well, you failed to edit your /etc/fstab <4> tdr: i did :/ <0> heh <4> well, i try repairing it <6> Nostur, well aparently you didn't save it <0> wrong one then
<4> hmm <4> i must made some mistake <4> thanks <5> a lot of people dont know they are supposed to make changes <1> Nostur: maybe no ker support? <0> reboot the livecd - chroot and edit the file again, don't forget to p***wd, and it should work <4> ok <4> thanks <6> no need to chroot to edit fstab, you can just mount it and edit /mnt/gentoo/etc/fstab <4> iamben: i edited /etc/fstab for sure <7> ah a nick that isn't owned :) <4> lol <5> Nostur: /dev/ROOT needs to be changed to an actual device, like /dev/hda3 <4> iamben: so i did not saved iut then <4> oh, maybe etc-update :/ <5> etc-update has nothing to do with it <0> be sure to F3 in nano this time <8> damn <0> # /nickserv info nick works well <9> How does one find if DMA is enabled for a CD drive? <0> on dalnet anyway.. <4> yip <0> hdparm /dev/CDROM <0> using_dma = 1 (on) <10> juckes, : Here is the whole ebuild (typo3) : http://pastebin.com/542913 . <9> needsome: merci <0> > screen <0> Must be connected to a terminal. <0> oh <9> is it normal that cdrecord reports: "cdrecord: DMA speed too slow (OK for 10x). Cannot write at speed 16x." <9> yet then proceeds to write fine? <11> ehm. what is TOR? <12> anyone using sendmail? <0> hmm when I screen in a chroot, it take me out of the chroot - any ideas <12> id just like to know how to auth with a emailaddress <7> pontusen, i think TOR is a proxy like program that uses multiple proxies and encryption to hide your identity on the net, i'm not completely sure though <4> Still one problem, i have /boot on hda1 same as root, but when iam booting, it tells me that hda1 is already mounted :/ <0> -o bind I luv u <4> and that manual repair is needed <11> rulebreaker, okey. thanks <7> no problem <0> Nostur, uhh what have you done.. <7> i have a very old machine and can't compile large things from source like the kernel and xorg for example so i decided to install Vector linux then install portage on it using a script from on the gentoo forums, all has gone well so far but now i get the error "!!! Cannot resolve a virtual package name to an ebuild. !!! This is a bug, please report it. (virtual/libintl-0)" any ideas? <4> needomse: gentoo cant handle it or what ? <4> * needsome <13> rulebreaker: run emerge --debug ..... <7> ok <14> What's up? <5> Nostur: if you dont have a separate /boot partition, you shouldnt have a /boot line in your fstab <4> iamben: uh, thanks <15> Does anybody know how to get a title bar back on a window that you've removed it from, in windowmaker? <14> Hey, does the fbset utility work with kernel 2.6.15? <11> im using unrar to... unrar rar's. and it goes WAY slower than in other OSes, is this something i will have to take, or could i speed things up? <14> Or do I need a different utility to adjust the framebuffer? <7> dragonheart, should i pastebin the output? <13> ok <16> so, has anyone gotten the current stable nvidia drivers to play well with gentoo-sources-2.6.15-r1? <3> Te\nst <0> Garibaldi, whats the prob?
<16> needsome: when X starts, I get a blank screen <0> oh heh <0> and it worked before? <16> ya, works now with <0> what did you change? <16> exec -o uname -r <16> 2.6.14-gentoo-r5 <16> the kernel <0> did you start with a fresh .config? <16> copied .config, ran make oldconfig; emerged the driver <10> Po0ky, iamben bit` : Here is the whole ebuild (typo3) : http://pastebin.com/542913 . It tries to install dev-php/php4, as there is already dev-lang/php5. Any clues to keep only dev-lang/php5 ? <16> rebooted <14> Haha. Fixed it. Kinda. <0> 2.6.15-gentoo-r1-***master-2.8Ghz <17> im having problems connecting to my dhcp on the live cd <7> dragonheart, at the minute i only have aterm installed and cannot copypaste from it do you know a small terminal that i can install quickly that allows me to copy paste? <16> now, I tried the ~x86 nvidia drivers -- they worked, but there were some visual artifacts on the screen <18> Has anyone seen this problem with iptables? <18> FATAL: Module ip_tables not found. <18> iptables v1.3.4: can't initialize iptables table `filter': <16> looked like a malfunctioning holodeck <0> lmao <0> dwC-work, missing some kernel stuff my freind <19> morning <13> rulebreaker: rather than paste output look for what ebuild is pulling in the dependancy on --virtual/libintl <18> needsome: i compiled netfilter into the kernel though <18> zgrep -i netfilter /proc/config.gz <18> CONFIG_NETFILTER=y <18> I cannot seem to find the iptables module in menuconfig <0> try cat /proc/net/ip_tables_names <7> dragonheart, it seems to be sed-4.1.4 although i am actually running "emerge portage" so i'm guessing that ignoring deps would be foolish <0> dwC and you compiled in, not as a module? <13> rulebreaker: on a initial install? <14> Hrrmmm...fbset is still flakey though. <5> dwC-work: < > IP tables support (required for filtering/masq/NAT) (NEW) <7> i'm installing portage on vector linux seeing as my machine has a nasty habit of seg faulting while compiling large things like the kernel and xorg <18> needsome: yeah I could only make it a [*] there was no option to insert it as a module <0> ahh yeah.. thats right, and what iamben said <18> iamben: is that in network options? <5> under netfilter configuration <0> ipkungfu.. heh <18> sob there it is <18> Thanks! <13> rulebreaker: what are architecture are you running (your probably right about sed) still looking <7> dragonheart, i686 <7> old celeron (mendocino) <18> what options should I be adding below iptables? a whole whack of them pop up <0> what do I need to screen inside a chroot? <5> dwC-work: i think the defaults are normally pretty good <18> thanks iam <17> can somone help me troubleshoot dhcp cuase i cant connect to the internet with the live cd and ive always connected right awya with linux on my dhcp network <17> its vey odd that i cant connect with gentoo <5> mcdenyer: check to see that the eth device exists w/ "ifconfig -a" <13> rulebreaker: bug 114798 - resync and try again <20> dragonheart: Bug 114798; ""cannot resolve virtual package name to an ebuild" errors in <2.0.51.20"; [Gentoo Linux :: Ebuilds]; {RESOLVED:FIXED}; Manuel Traut <mail@manut.de>->Portage team <dev-portage@gentoo.org>; http://bugs.gentoo.org/114798 <14> Anyone working on bug 116151? <20> Freejack: Bug 116151; "fbset init script to set framebuffer resolution"; [Gentoo Linux :: Unspecified]; {REOPENED}; Michal Suchanek <hramrach@centrum.cz>->Gentoo's Team for Core System packages <base-system@gentoo.org>; http://bugs.gentoo.org/116151 <21> im trying to set some thunderbird rules for certain attachments. do you guys know if there is any plugin for this ? ( cuz i seem, no to be lucky with what i am doing) <7> dragonheart, whenever i try and sync i get a similar error concerning the same package at around 80% and when trying emerge-webrsync the lastest file has no md5 yet on the mirror and the one it downloads always seems to be corrupt <14> It works when using fbset -a <22> is brianw there? <14> But it wont work on a single virtual terminal, or when using the -depth option. <22> *hope* <0> rulebreaker, are you using reiserfs? <7> needsome, yes <17> iamben, yes i get an etho and a lo return <0> rulebreaker, you have fs corruption <5> mcdenyer: have you tried "dhcpcd eth0"? <17> iamben no <11> im using unrar to... unrar rar's. and it goes WAY slower than in other OSes, is this something i will have to take, or could i speed things up? <7> needsome, so running fsck would solve the problem? <0> rulebreaker, yes <5> pontusen: make sure you have dma on the hard drive
