<0> lastnode: but it will not *g*
<1> lilo is very rarely the solution
<2> Mad: now that you have network do this (it will help things): emerge portage-utils eix && update-eix && eix-sync
<0> iamben: lilo works :)
<1> both work when you do it right
<0> iamben: i did it right :D
<3> iamben, one sec
<4> sonyman: there are arguments to startx that help with debugging: verbose=6 log=6 or some such
<1> as did i!
<5> I want to see how much traffic goes through each route
<0> iamben: grub worked
<0> iamben: before i installed xp+vista
<1> but when someone has no experience with either, no reason to start them on lilo
<0> iamben: after i installed then grub again, it did not work again
<6> sonyman: Still there ?
<4> sonyman: startx --verbose 5 --logverbose 5; to be exact

<3> iamben, olem_omay : http://pastebin.com/643466
<3> oh great
<3> thanks kornbluth
<7> startx verbose=6 didnt help, but meh.
<0> :D
<0> kick all of them *G*
<7> oops say your new post
<7> saw*
<8> im trying to setup gentoo to be a client of a windows xp server with internet connection sharing (ICS).. gentoo is online, but it cant open ports for external connections unless i setup the port redirection on ICS.. BUT some services uses dynamic ports, and its not possible to setup them manually.. is there a way to linux add the redirection entries automatically when it opens a new port? (using UPnP i think)
<3> iamben, is that a ghost, or are you there? :)
<7> the output looks the same :(
<6> sonyman: Do the following ls -l /usr/lib/libXfont*
<0> lastnode: if you windows is on first partition, seems to be ok
<3> Old_Fred, it's on /dev/hda1
<6> sonyman: post it in pastebin
<0> lastnode: than should work..
<1> arent you supposed to do rootnoverify for windows?
<1> thats actually a question because i havent dual booted in a long time
<9> this look right?
<9> http://pastebin.com/643471
<3> iamben, i've tried with that earlier, but i guess i can try again
<3> rootnoverify, anyone?
<6> sonyman: Still there ?
<2> lastnode: i believe it is suposed to be there...
<3> iamben, rootnoverify (hd0,0)
<3> ok Agathezol , iamben , will test and brb
<1> yeah that should be right
<6> sonyman: ping
<10> I guess I'll be on tomorrow trying to get two computers up at the same time. Well one at a time, I want x-chat running on at least one machine before removing it from the other.
<3> iamben, Agathezol : here is the error I get - "Filename must be an absolute pathname or block list."
<7> rat, http://pastebin.com/643473
<11> how do you install from a binary package?
<11> emerge -k ?
<7> Rat sorry about the wait. im on a different computer from the one with the issue
<7> retyped the output
<11> anyone?
<7> victori from my exp. if the package is a binary its in its name
<7> like mozilla-firefox-bin
<12> victori: if the package is availavble on the same box, emerge -K
<6> sonyman: oh np,
<3> iamben, Agathezol ?
<1> lastnode: not sure on that, i dont know grub + windows well
<3> iamben, ok, np
<3> thanks anyway
<2> lastnode: pastebin your grub.conf
<3> Agathezol, http://pastebin.com/643476
<4>
<6> sonyman: First try re-emerging the fonts
<6> emerge font-misc-misc font-adobe-100dpi font-adobe-75dpi font-adobe-utopia-100dpi font-adobe-utopia-75dpi font-adobe-utopia-type1 font-alias font-cursor-misc freefonts
<11> I know this is a bit far fetched, but is it possible to get the bsd version of top, I miss 'top -o cpu' or 'top -o size'
<13> how do I get the console beep sound to go off ?
<14> hello
<14> where can i get information about installing gnome 2.14 in gentoo?
<13> ruben_gonc, there is a gentoo guide
<13> ruben_gonc, look for it in the installations section.
<2> lastnode: you are on an i386 with an ext2 formated /boot partition right?
<14> Linux_Junkie, thank you..i will check that
<3> Agathezol, yeah, that's what im running gentoo on
<0> ruben_gonc: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Gnome_Desktop_for_the_End-User
<2> lastnode: on line 6, change /boot/2.6.15-rc1 to /2.6.15-rc1
<14> olem_omay, thank you:)

<2> lastnode: as long as your kernel file is named "2.6.15-rc1"
<3> Agathezol, oh ok
<3> Agathezol, ok, but how will that affect my xp partition?
<13> any know how to disable console beep noise ?
<7> Rat its merging. takes a few mins
<2> lastnode: grub will be able to parse its file - err, are you able to boot into linux with it as you have it nwo?
<6> sonyman: Yeah I thought it would, tell me if that helps fix your problem
<3> Agathezol, yeah :) i can boot fine
<2> lastnode: hrm... don't change that then
<2> lastnode: your kernel is in an odd place :P
<0> Linux_Junkie: want's to know too :)
<15> damn mplayer segfaults for me without arguments
<14> olem_omay, Linux_Junkie lol...i wasn't refering how to install gnome...i want to install gnome 2.14...it is hard masked..so i don't know how to install it:(
<15> anybody had this problem ?
<3> Agathezol, sorry, hda6 is not mounted as /boot, it's mounted as /
<16> Agathezol: ok done anything else or should i start setting up the nVidia drivers now?
<0> Agathezol: what the hell does kernel place has to do with booting windows?
<2> olem_omay: doesn't, his grub error sounded like it was having trouble finding a file
<13> ruben_gonc, configure /etc/portage/package.keywords
<2> olem_omay: rather than having a problem with windows specifically
<17> has any one has use aireplay before in a gentoo box
<13> ruben-gonc package/name ~arch
<2> Mad: continue as you were, you might 'man eix' as its a good tool for finding quick packages
<4> hexoroid: you mean "mplayer somefile" is ok, and "mplayer -fs" is ok, but "mplayer" is not?
<1> ruben_gonc: gentoo-wiki.com/Masked check it out
<16> Agathezol: ok tyvm
<14> iamben, thanks
<13> ruben_gonc, what iamben said.
<14> ;)
<1> btw package.keywords doesnt help on hard masked packages
<15> shadowplay just 'mplayer'
<3> Agathezol, ?
<15> shadowplay then i was re-emerging it as a root and it worked.. then i went to normal user then it segfaults again
<15> then i go back to root it segfaults as root too
<15> i cant figure out whats causing that..
<4> hexoroid: try specifying the right audio output "mplayer -ao alsa" or whatever.
<15> shadowplay as i said
<15> i type in only 'mplayer'
<15> and it segfaults
<15> no arguments
<15> mplayer just throws out help menu
<4> hexoroid: but is it OK if you specify alsa? if so, modify your conf file so that alsa is default.
<18> anyone got logitech quickcam 3000 pro working with kernel 2.6.16?
<15> shadow nope
<15> it segfaults
<15> something wierd is happening
<15> i had it working then i went back to normal user
<15> and it starts segfaulting
<15> that started happening today no idea why
<4> hexoroid: yeah. sorry. If it were me I'd just try using gmplayer. that's worked for me in similar situations, until I re-emerged the right packages
<19> Hi guys, I seem to be having a problem installing dev-libs/cdk.. the compile looks for some certain object files that aren't actually there
<15> shadow mplayer always worked fine for me
<20> try "strace mplayer" see if that gives you a hint on what the error is (look at the end more or less), pipe it through vi if you know your way in vi "strace mplayer 2>&1 | vi -"
<20> hexoroid: ^^^ may need to emerge strace if you don't have it
<15> tecnico and what am i going to do with strace
<19> The relevant error is: i686-pc-linux-gnu-g++: /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.0.2/../../../crti.o: No such file or directory
<7> Rat: nope
<17> how can i make any windows backgroud traperent
<7> Rat: could not init font path element bla bla bla...then that 'fixed' error
<21> AppleBoy /usr/include/gentoo-multilib/amd64/bits/stat.h line 103
<21> AppleBoy any gentoo dev willing to check that and tell me if those brackets should be there?
<21> AppleBoy ircd-hybrid was throwing errors about it, I removed the brackets, and it compiled fine
<17> any one
<20> hexoroid: you'll see a bunch of lines that look like garbage at first, but look towards the end where the "segmentation fault" is printed and start from there going backwards.. see if you get a hint on what the error might be (like, cannot open library, or missing library... )
<20> hexoroid: I haven't followed all the conversation, but have you tried launching "mplayer -nosound" ? just making sure maybe the sound device (/dev/dsp) is not getting in the way in case is in use
<15> tecnico thanks
<15> ill try that out now
<22> hi guys..
<23> hi
<22> i updated my X server
<23> something's wrong with Srijit's laptop
<22> but i couldn't edit xorg.conf
