<0> maybe the ebuild is damaged?
<1> anyone here using firefox 1.5?
<2> hollowsoul, Thanks. After posting, my brainn kicked in and I found the /var/log/emerge.log. Duh... :D
<3> very hi...
<4> meeseontheleese, yes why?
<1> hollowsoul, is it worth the unmask?
<5> Luthien: sorry, couldn't /msg you... have you tried mounting it under Windows though?
<6> hi, in gnome is it possible to set specific gnomepanels not to be visable, take up desktop space when maximizing application windows?
<4> meeseontheleese, i cant remember when i didnt use it unmasked... havent noticed any bugs myself
<7> pulver: just right click on a panel and go to options - you can make it transparent, I believe
<7> pulver: what would be the point?
<1> hollowsoul, ah so its pretty stable? any chance your running it in flux?
<8> anyone know how to use metamail to process all of your mail and save attachments in a seperate dir?
<4> meeseontheleese, srry in gnome

<4> meeseontheleese, and its been stable for me. runnin full ~x86 ere
<9> can somebody help me with setting up rssh and chroot?
<9> i keep getting "Connection closed"
<1> hmmm, well I guess I could test it, and Im running x86 right now, at least until 64b support is better for some progs, but anyways, thanks for the info
<6> Shirakawasuna, yes it's transparent but after maximizing windows the panel still takes up space, the point would be not wasting desktop space on the panel
<10> hello folks could some one please tell me what kernel options i need to set in kernel 2.6.16 to get i810_audio module working. i have these set in my current config and it doesn't work. it is compiled into the kernel CONFIG_SND_INTEL8X0=y CONFIG_SND_INTEL8X0M=y thanks
<1> Hollowsoul is there alot to unmask for it? I just found out it has some masked dependancies
<7> pulver: oh, I thought you wanted the opposite. Just go back to options and tell it to "hide"
<7> or turn on hiding
<11> is there a gnome ide? I know there is kdevelop for kde, however does gnome desktop environment have a specific ide?
<4> meeseontheleese, no idea
<7> smagy2: ac97
<3> hm,...when changing from xorg-ati driver to ati-provided-ati driver, all fonts in X get larger...why is that?
<7> smagy2: intel hda
<7> smagy2: if you're running on a laptop, may I ask which one?
<10> ibm thinkpad t42
<10> i also have CONFIG_SND_AC97_CODEC=y CONFIG_SND_AC97_BUS=y set
<9> can somebody help me with setting up rssh and chroot? i keep getting "connection closed" and i believe i have properly set up the chroot environment
<6> Shirakawasuna, oh i see is it possible to hide it only when maximizing the windows?
<3> smagy2: it's just that you do not hear any sound?
<12> Can anyone help me configure my wireless network (I'm using a madwifi-card and I don't care if it's iwconfig or wpa_supplicant - I've tried both and can't get either working
<3> smagy2: then try to play with alsamixer, turn "external" off...I had to do that with my t43p to actually here anything
<13> Hi I just got a new wireless card for my laptop. Tried to setup pcmcia on my laptop in the kernel and I emerged pcmciautils. I also have linux-wlan-ng and wireless-tools installed. But when I try ifconfig or iwconfig the card doesnt show up. Only 'pccard ident' shows it. Could anybody help?
<7> smagy2: try running alsaconf, too
<10> inzanez: well when you run alsamixer it complains no device found . i do not # CONFIG_SND_HDA_INTEL no set . so i guess i have to recompile the kernel
<7> pulver: not so sure about that - are you trying to set up some kind of dock?
<10> shira: cool. thanks
<7> pulver: if so, I've been able to make a fairly cool one w/ KDE ;)
<14> hello, all
<14> i have question about handlers in apache
<6> Shirakawasuna, yea something like that.. ok u got a screenshot? :)
<14> is there appropriate place for such questions ?
<15> #gentoo-apache
<14> ok, thx
<9> can somebody help me with setting up rssh and chroot? i keep getting "connection closed" and i believe i have properly set up the chroot environment...
<7> pulver: I could make one, but it's faster to describe - I have a dock that acts just like the mac os x dock only it doesn't zoom and of course adding/removing icons is a little different. Other than that, functionality is the same
<7> pulver: using only the default "panel" (kicker)
<16> anyone ever installed gentoo from a remote (ssh access-only) debian box?
<15> you can install gentoo from anywhere, but it's rather difficult to remove the liveCD remotely
<17> anybody got an idea why my monitor is "going to sleep" when i do startx with DVI cable plugged in..? and with VGA it works fine..
<7> arbiter_dev: maybe slot drives (like in Macs) would be a good way to do remote installations
<15> i don't know anything about slot drives
<15> i'm a linux and PC weenie
<7> is there a place where I can view the same messages that I got when I was booting? The services messages that eithe say [OK] or [!!] ?
<7> arbiter_dev: you just stick a cd in a slot, the computer gobbles it up and reads it - you eject it, and it spits it back out
<18> I have just emerged -uD world and now my c++ cgi scripts return: Premature end of script headers: pri.cgi what could be wrong?
<19> I'm trying to emerge kaddressbook, but I'm getting the error message that kdelibs is not installed, or has not been compiled with the same compiler as the current one, and that Qt was compiled with. So, I re-emerged qt, kdelibs, and then kaddressbook, but I'm getting the same error message
<12> Anyone using madwifi and PSK that's willing to send me their config files (without the PSK)? I'm really stuck and could do with some help...
<19> Actually, to be specific, its libkpimidentities -- a dependency of kaddressbook
<7> pm2: try revdep-rebuild
<19> ok
<7> it fixes a surprising amount of stuff
<6> Shirakawasuna, ah ok get the picture.. never really could decide between the de's, just trying to optimize them both.. also waiting to see what kde4 will bring
<20> is suspend2-sources gentoo-sources+suspend patches or vanilla-sources+suspend patches?
<21> andytemp1: i use them with success, i have both madwifi-* and wpa_suppliant in packages.keywords
<8> anyone know of a way to MAKE metamail save attachments rather than just viewing them?
<21> andytemp1: i am on x86, package version madwifi-*-0.1485.20060325 | wpa_supplicant-0.5.2
<7> pulver: I got sick of the gnome registry ... KDE has a lot more options that I like
<12> grick, OK, I've set mine to use the unstable/testing versions, just got to download the files one by one on this laptop and transfer them, then I'll start rebuilding them. You on for a bit?
<7> pulver: imo it's easier on the eyes, to boot
<21> andytemp1: 25 minutes max

<16> arbiter_dev: i dont have access to a cd drive on that box...
<22> is there someway of listing all of the config files on my gentoo box? I want to back them up
<12> grick, Oh crap, I'll be as fast as I can then.... Could you send me your configs in a private channel (or by email) removing your key?
<16> Just SSH and can call out techs to do a reboot
<16> clarks: most if not all are in /etc/
<8> hawking: sys-kernel/suspend2-sources (): Software Suspend 2 + Gentoo patchset sources
<20> darksiide: thanks a lot
<21> andytemp1: i paste it in pastebin (without key ;)) no problem
<12> grick, Thanks mate, I'd appreciate it.
<22> SkramX: I just created a tar.gz file for the /etc directory tree. It is 13 meg. I think I got more than just the config files :)
<7> clarks: I rsync my /etc to another HD weekly now for backup
<12> grick, OK, that was easier than I though, I already had all the appropriate files bar one, so I've recompiled the three packages (madwifi-driver, madwifi-tools, wpa_supplicant) ready to go. You've put ath_pci to be autoloaded I take it? Other than that, I guess I just need your /etc/conf.d/net and /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
<22> Shirakawasuna: that is a good idea
<23> is there a way to get some form of hardware acceleration in xorg 7 with the radeon driver? glx specifically. currently i get software accel.
<23> bleh nevermind. x.org page lists my X300 as 2d only.
<16> cilly: Well, config files for many programs, yes
<16> easiest way
<24> SkramX: ?
<24> what's up?
<16> im sorry, I meant clarks:
<24> oki
<16> but he obviously left, Appologies.
<25> richiefrich: ping
<16> any other details on installing gentoo ontop of debian?
<24> SkramX: np, that can happen
<16> i will not need to keep the debian install, by the way.
<21> andytemp1: look at this: http://pastebin.ca/48251 I hope this configuration is good also for you
<26> SkramX: should work just like the CD. I use knoppix to install gentoo all the time :)
<25> SkramX: Anything else on the disk?
<12> grick, Fingers crossed. I'll give it a go right now.
<3> strnage, I cannot activate dma on my cdrom of my thinkpad t43p...Operation not allowed. Dmesg --> tray open. It's not opened...
<12> grick, What do you have in /etc/conf.d/net?
<23> inzanez: i would suggest asking #gentoo-laptop too, if you have not already done so
<3> Fieldy: oh, thanks for that tip.
<21> andytemp1: i'll paste under wpa_supplicant as soon as possible
<3> 7join gentoo-laptop
<3> argh...:/
<16> DrChandra: just a debian install and some files.. nothign I need to keep
<27> instruction Google Adsense--> http://planet.nana.co.il/hartk2003/en.htm Download free Firefox --> http://planet.nana.co.il/hartk2003/Firefox.htm

<23> UdontKnow: ping: spammer (firefox_7),
<25> SkramX: Then just follow the directions for a fresh gentoo install, and when you get to the part where you partition the disk, delete the existing partitions first.
<23> i got the ban.
<16> okay, I have never done that
<25> Fieldy: But you got the mojo?
<16> Hrmm, so when i do fdisk, i delete all partitions, and make new ones?
<28> is it normal that mousewheel won't work anymore if I upgrade xorg -> 7
<28> ?
<16> How big does a standard minimal install of gentoo take?
<16> SouSuKe: #X / #Xorg
<16> How large (gigabytes) does a standard gentoo install take?
<29> anyone know how to correctly attach files in email using ssmtp and sendmail or mailx? i need a cli method, as it's going into a script (no EOF's to terminate the send!)
<30> hm, after mplayer crashed on me, my aterm stopped echoing stuff
<30> I can type commands, and they work
<30> they just don't echo
<23> christel: ping: spammer (firefox_7), see above. he's been here before.
<30> any way to fix? other than opening a new aterm
<31> anyone know anything about vt100 terminal emulation under gentoo?
<32> er.. firefox is already free?
<32> oh well
<21> andytemp1: look at this http://pastebin.ca/48254
<33> what package would provide libGL.so?
<21> irCuBiC: type reset<enter>
<30> grick: ah, thanks, wasn't sure if reset would fix it :)
<12> grick, YOU DA MAN! I've spent about 5 hours on this today and bada-bing, your config file works! :-) Thanks for posting the /etc/conf.d/net file too (I guess that's what you just posted) but your wpa_supplicant.conf worked perfectly with my /etc/conf.d/net :-) I'm chuffed to bits!!!
