<0> marienz, sry
<1> anyone here been using gcc 4.0.x? I was thinking, it will be a long time until it is stable, I might enable ~x86 and switch to it
<2> anyone using i2c on Dell Latitude C400?
<3> xprment626, I would be very gratefull if you could find out the name of the channel. I'm building an ebook reader (hardware) so ebooks come in handy :-) I don't think an application for the ebook exists, I haven't heard of it just yet
<4> xorg 6.9 pr 7
<5> DarkMorph, quite a few things dont work
<6> hi 'emaint --check world' says "'net-wireless/ipw2200' is not installed", but if I try to unmerge it, it says it's not installed. How do I fix this?
<4> s/pr/or
<7> Steven_6040: but it is not ext2 it's resier
<8> IRCFrEAK: by removing the line from /var/lib/portage/world perhaps?
<1> because my friend on Ubuntu says everything is built with gcc4
<5> DragonD, oh yeah. Sorry lol. Reboot then :)
<7> reiser*
<1> I figured it was stable enough for usage (though gentoo-unsupported)
<7> dang
<6> marienz: thanks!

<5> DarkMorph, it involves running mostly ~arch which in itself is a problem. Then you have the various problems with compiler errors.
<9> marinez: downloaded strace, where should i untar it?
<1> the guy who originally got me with gentoo has switched to ubuntu, he claims it is noticably speedier, saying that part of the reason is the gcc4 binaries, and also there are some OS features that gentoo doesn't use like some sort of branch prediction that gentoo frowns upon (not sure on validity)
<10> anyone use openoffice alot and know if you can enable fliping on text
<11> madnificent: hmm, just transcoded a few of my mp3's... the loss is not that great, percetage is very low thanks to my tick of making them vbr... *I is going ogg*
<12> I got a very weird behaviour
<8> dubie: you shouldn't untar. Simply put the file in distfiles (/mnt/gentoo/usr/portage/distfiles if outside the chroot) and run "emerge strace" inside the chroot.
<13> i can't seem to be able to set root window background with xv or Esetroot, i'm using ion3...
<8> Sithy: ion3 will usually cover the background, of course, so you won't see it a lot :)
<5> DarkMorph, hmm are you sure ubuntu is gcc4? You will probably find he has the gcc4 package installed and has compiled some apps with it. You can do the same on gentoo quite safely.
<1> from his description, I understood it as the entire OS was built with gcc4
<9> sorry, missed that part... still working
<14> rommel, Whats flipping text?
<12> With kernel 2.6.14-r5 the emerge kdegraphics was getting a Segmentation Fault. I tried several times. Then I booted with kernel 2.6.13-r5 and now works just fine.
<5> DarkMorph, any idea what version of ubuntu he runs?
<1> I don't know
<1> he loves to be as updated as possible
<13> marienz, even if i use e.g. a transparent Eterm ?
<1> so probably whatever is their newest
<8> Sithy: I'm not sure.
<11> DarkMorph: even if the versions are unstable?
<8> Sithy: do you have some simple way I can run something that's supposedly transparent?
<1> probably; he used to run ~x86 gentoo all the time
<8> Sithy: (I don't care about transparency, but I do use ion3)
<11> DarkMorph: then he's probably using dapper
<1> the only instability he was cautious of was kernel versions and still he used the mm branch (unsure myself of what that is)
<1> what is dapper ?
<13> marienz, just close all client windows in a frame i guess
<14> DarkMorph, Ubuntu version
<11> DarkMorph: code name for the development version of Ubuntu
<1> oh, okay
<8> Sithy: that does not seem to be sufficient.
<11> aka -- unstable
<1> gotcha :)
<5> DarkMorph, i have a test VM running gcc4 with ~arch. The binaries are larger, things are roughly the same speed as stable. The latest problem I have is vnc server wil not compile.
<1> larger binaries? -O3?
<5> -O2
<11> man, my computer will hate me... about 800 music files to be converted into ogg *runs dir2ogg*
<8> Sithy: it looks like that gives me the style "background_colour" for (probably) the frame-tiled style.
<15> -Os seems to be the better set of optimizations for all my uses
<5> -O2 -march=pentium4 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -mno-tls-direct-seg-refs
<1> I still am unsure about the whole -O3 vs -Os; from what I know in ***embly language, the options of -O3 should be quicker though larger bins; but -Os seems to be better in general (I think maybe it's because compiler output ****s compared to hand-coded asm)
<13> marienz, indeed it isn't
<16> Feb 3 10:51:53 [kernel] hdb: cdrom_pc_intr: The drive appears confused (ireason = 0x01)
<16> it appears that when running hal (Hardware Application Layer) i get flooded with this
<16> googled to find it's related to SATA/PATA mode, my controller is in PATA only mode
<8> Sithy: perhaps #ion knows, or it's documented on their homepage somewhere.
<17> Anyone know of a howto for getting Xorg and Intel 915GM working on a WXGA or what ever its called widescreen laptop? I have not the slightest clue for setting up the xorg.conf for this laptop
<16> yet it doesn't seem to resolve it, and #freedesktop was worthless which pointed to #hal which was 'developers only'
<5> Synx, what version of Xorg?
<8> Sithy: I couldn't care less about my background myself, I usually have all space filled up anyway and it's nice and black if it's not full.
<17> Steven_6040, latest x86 6.8.2
<18> marienz Pentium4 515 (P) 2.93 GHz:
<13> marienz, http://ereb.us/ion-wiki/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Transparency if you care :)
<11> UdontKnow: care to explain what you use your computer for and what is your arch/processor/ram specs?
<8> cheloo: eh?
<18> marienz thats what i have now what should i select in kernel conf . processors type and features ?
<5> Synx, you're stuck with the vesa driver then. You'll need to also use a modeline in your monitor section to get whatever mode you want. I'd check the tux mobile website and copy someone elses xorg conf which has a similar screen.
<18> marienz what model ?
<8> cheloo: what are you trying to do again?
<18> marienz compile the kernel

<17> Steven_6040, i thought the latest Xorg had the i915gm driver?
<8> cheloo: err, I don't know? what processor is in there?
<8> cheloo: it's your box, you are much more qualified to answer that question than I am :)
<5> Synx, unstable has i810 driver which is supposed to work with an i915GM
<18> marienz well all i asked its what should i choise because my processor its not listed
<17> Steven_6040, hmm maybe ill switch to that, thanks ill see what i can find on the web about this card
<8> Sithy: ah, so it was indeed a theme setting :)
<19> Any suggestions for this error? Cannot resolve a virtual package name to an ebuild. !!! This is a bug, please report it. (virtual/libintl-0)
<8> cheloo: give me a second.
<19> Happens when i try to sync
<5> Synx, try the i810 driver if you like. The worst that will happen is you get an annoying BUSID message that changes depending upon what BUSID you set in xorg.conf
<5> NonSequitur, emerge --sync && emerge -u portage
<9> marinez: emerge strace = done
<8> cheloo: I have a "Pentium-4/Celeron(P4-based)/Pentium-4 M/Xeon" in there, that should be what you want.
<19> Steven_6040: Since it's failing on sync, the && part would never occure
<8> dubie: good! now run (inside the chroot, where networking is broken) "strace ping mzz.mine.nu >& /tmp/stracelog"
<5> NonSequitur, do the part after && then :)
<19> Steven_6040: Will do
<12> I'm trying to install kde-3.5.1 and I'm getting errors for kdegraphics: make[4]: *** [generator_pdf.lo] Error 1
<8> dubie: this should create a lengthy file. "cat /tmp/stracelog" to check if it worked. Tell me when you're done.
<12> There is nothing in the forums, someone has installed it already?
<8> mzbot: teach ^j^ error
<20> ^j^: To inform us about a problem, you need to give us the /fault/, not the error. Error lines that begin with "!!!" or "make" are of no use to us. Fault lines, like "foobar.o: no such file or directory" or "undefined variable cabli" are. (details: http://mzz.mine.nu/faq/error)
<12> mkdir: cannot create directory `.libs': File exists
<12> generator_pdf.cpp:29:45: poppler/poppler-page-transition.h: No such file or directory
<12> generator_pdf.cpp:53: error: expected namespace-name before ';' token
<9> marinez: done
<12> It starts like that
<12> generator_pdf.cpp:53: error: `<type error>' is not a namespace
<12> generator_pdf.cpp: In member function `void PDFGenerator::addTransition(int, KPDFPage*)':
<12> generator_pdf.cpp:881: error: `PageTransition' undeclared (first use this function)
<5> ^j^, pastebin.com
<8> ^j^: please pastebin.
<12> Should I go to pastebin.com?
<21> is there a way that if a user trys to ssh my system without a dsa key, the system will ignore this user without giving him a login prompt?
<8> dubie: ok. Now from outside the chroot upload the file to filebin, I'll give you a ticket (it's /mnt/gentoo/tmp/stracelog outside the chroot)
<22> arrrgg has anyone noticed nautilus & firefox unstable on ~x86 branch in last day or 2 ??
<8> mzbot: ticket dubie
<20> marienz: ticket granted, uploaded file will appear on http://mzz.mine.nu/filebin/
<23> ufk: you can make it force key auth only
<8> hollowsoul: ff 1.5 works for me. I don't use nautilus.
<23> ufk: its in the sshd_config
<24> can someone help me with my kernel?
<22> marienz, guess its time to hunt down errors in logs. to many times i have to resort to killing them
<21> Ginsu|work: even if i force dsa keys only, if someone trys to ssh my system without a dsa key he can't login, but he still gets a login prompt, and i don't want people to get a login prompt cause i get too many bruthforce attacks
<24> can someone help me with my kernel?
<17> Steven_6040, if i want to unmask it, do i just put =x11-base/xorg-x11-7.0-r1 in my /etc/portage/package.keywords?
<8> ufk: iirc setting ChallengeResponseAuthentication to no helped (I use pam). If you have set up sshd_config to not use pam for some reason you probably want P***wordAuthentication set to no.
<12> I copied it on pastebin.com: http://pastebin.com/537323
<1> are there still major problems with modular X (x11r7?)
<12> There is the output
<8> ufk: make sure to keep an ssh connection open while testing or you'll lock yourself out :)
<22> anyone know what package xdpyinfo belongs to ?
<5> Synx, as if it was going to be that easy! :) http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Modular_Xorg
<12> Please see it and tell me if you have any suggestions
<17> Steven_6040, eak haha thanks
<8> hollowsoul: xdpyinfo for modular X (xorg 7), xorg-x11 for "normal" x.
<8> hollowsoul: wrong nick
<2> anyone using the new modular X? what is the new INPUT_DEVICESS= for?
<23> ufk: so get one of those scripts that firewalls them after too many failed logins
<5> Synx, I used the function fixmask which worked quite well
<8> hollowsoul: err, not wrong nick :)
<23> dcmwai: to select which inputs devices you want
<5> dcmwai, to tell xorg you want a mouse and keyboard usually :)
<24> guys, please help me
<22> marienz, lol modular xorg 7
<24> my kernel doesnt boot
<8> dcmwai: it makes the meta ebuild magically pull in the right device driver ebuilds.
<25> 2222
<2> Ginsu|work, Steven_6040 how do you define them?
<23> dcmwai: in make.conf
<21> Ginsu|work: wish i knew from where
<2> oh..
<5> dcmwai, I put that variable in make.conf with my optons
