<0> umask 777 will grant 0 perms to anyone... <1> hey all, im wondering why when i put my laptop into hibernate, and come back, the hwclock is set wrong? why does it do that? shouldnt the hwclock keep runnign whille it hibernates? <2> pidhash: Being rather stupid, I deleted xorg.conf instead of renaming it back to xorg.conf.example :S Still, cant I simply p*** a command line argument? I know what I have to p***, but I dont know where it p***ed to Xorg (ie. what starts x ) <0> u mean umask 000 for full control everyone <3> guys i have a problem with a new kernel <3> i get this message: <3> bios provided physical ram map <3> some numbers <3> and then it stops <3> can anyone help me? <3> please help <4> can I reiserfsck on a mounted filesystem? <3> aikie: if its ro <3> guys i have a problem with a new kernel <5> ok, so ... uh .... how do I shot web?
<5> I successfully booted my first kernel <5> is there a faq for framebuffer-related problems? <6> It's quiet... Is there a netsplit happening or something? <7> not that i know of <6> oh well <8> it's just quiet, it happens occasionally :) <7> :) <6> even in #gentoo? <9> I just split my net, yeah <6> wow <7> it's dinner time here in belgium .. so ... <9> what OF IT? <5> every time I enable fb, I only get a blank screen <5> (it boots, though) <6> i wonder what time it is in America... <7> mauke_: probaly wrong framebuffer driver <10> mauke_, enable fb in what X or console <9> BCMM: that's a few timzones right there ;) <6> linforcer: i'll add some to the KDE clock for reference... <7> anyway, since it's so quiet .. i'm off to take a shower and grab some food <7> cheerz ;) <5> Infirit: the menuconfig thingy <6> linforcer: i'll add some to the KDE clock for reference.. <9> why am I still using kcirc O_o <5> I don't really know what it does <10> mauke_, Try the vesa one first <7> mauke_: that's your kernel configuration ... you should enable the correct driver for your framebuffer ... try vesafb <5> oh, and when I run startx my monitor complains about "out of frequency" <9> there we go <7> mauke_: that last one is a problem in your xorg.conf <11> anyone here using qemu and can help me with that? <5> and opening /dev/fb0 failed, obviously <7> you monitor frequencies are not configured correctly <3> can someone help me with my kernel? <7> anyway ==> shower <5> thanks <6> xenosmilus: yes, a bit <3> the computer halts <2> silly question, but X is started before kdm, right ? <6> torsionbalance: no <10> mauke_, what type of video card do you have? <6> TorbaX: kdm starts X <2> ohhhhh, excellent, thank you very much <6> torsionbalance: kdm starts x <6> TorbaX: wrong autocomplete, sry <3> i get a message: bios provided physical ram map <3> and then it halts <3> please help <11> BCMM: do you know how one can connect from gentoo to the virtual mashine? i cant even ping it <6> torsionbalance: i think there are several parts and scripts, some to start x, some to run after X is up <3> do i have to recompile it again? <6> xenosmilus: can't ping which way? <2> BCMM> All I want to do is add a command line argument to set my bits per pixel :( <5> Infirit: accoring to this thing, an ATI Radeon X1300 <3> does anyone have any ideas? <6> torsionbalance: can't you set that in xorg.conf? <11> BCMM: from my gentoo box I want to ping the windows in qemu <6> xenosmilus: ah. that's a problem. Are you using the fake NAT? <10> mauke_, You have to choose between VESA VGA or ATI Radeon <2> BCMM> I dont have an xorg.conf and since the sample config didnt work out of the box, I really just cant be bothered right now. Ill just edit this kdm config file to p*** one more parameter to X
<11> BCMM: I guess. at least i did the standard installation <12> genbot <12> genbot botsnack <12> awww <6> xenosmilus: basically, the default network is like a NAT <2> BCMM : Guess at some point though I will have to make an xorg.conf :( <5> Infirit: what happens if I enable both? <6> torsionbalance: well, yes you do <13> hi, does anybody know how to install the d-link 302t adsl modem via usb? <6> xenosmilus: the guest machine doesn't have it's own IP, it should be able to ping outwards though <11> BCMM: so its not good to change the ip of the qemu vm into another in my real network? <11> BCMM: outwards works <6> xenosmilus: the virtual machine is not on your network with it's own address <11> but I need to connect from my host system <6> xenosmilus: do you know how a real NAT works? <11> BCMM: kind of. it replaces the real address <3> Please help me <2> Nazgul: Are you sure it doesnt need external firmware ? I had this problem with a silly accessrunner equivalent <14> How can I figure out which chip is on my Pinnacle PCTV Deluxe USB-based TV-tuner device? I have looked around in /sys/bus/usb, but apparently that sort of identification is not exported like it is for PCI devices. Any hints? <6> xenosmilus: the virtual machine can only connect outwards, it cannot serve. however, there may be an option to forward ports <3> what do i have to do to make my kernel work? <3> perhaps there is some option for genkernel <6> xenosmilus: i mean from the point of view of a user. a NAT uses one external IP for several machines <2> Nazgul: Could it be using the Accessrunner chipset too ? try lsusb <11> BCMM: isn't it possible for qemu to work without nat <3> or i have to enable something in menuconfig? <15> Infirit: after portage update * IMPORTANT: 2 config files in /etc need updating. / so, i execute etc-update? <11> BCMM: so that i can include the vm in my real network <6> xenosmilus: so incoming connections can go to various machines depending hwo it;'s configures <6> xenosmilus: i'll read about it <6> xenosmilus: one moment <16> hi <13> torsionbalance: yes, i think it needs an external formware, now i'm using it via eth, so i can't retrieve any information from lsusb, i hope to find something in google, can the firmware be adam2? <6> xenosmilus: well, for a start there is a system to make the real machine take 2 real IP addresses from the LAN and one is for the VM, but that requires some kernel modules i think <16> is there a gentoo (minimal) liveCD (not DVD!) with reiser4 support? <17> thomasg, conrad live CD <16> cOff3eBuZz, thx <17> thomasg, http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-425194.html <17> note that is completely unsupported by gentoo <18> hi - what version of the install cd do I want for an athlon dual processor machine? <11> BCMM: so what am i supposed to do if I have to connect to the vm? <6> xenosmilus: i'm looking for options. there should be a way to make qemu listen on certain ports, and forward those ports to the guest OS <6> xenosmilus: don't know if the options exist though <6> xenosmilus: i'm finding out... <13> torsionbalance: i get this message from lsusb: Bus 003 Device 002: ID 2001:5b00 D-Link Corp. [hex] <2> Nazgul: I dont really know. Try connecting it to the USB and running lsusb to see what chipset its running. Or better, keep it on eth0 :P <2> Nazgul: Try searching for it on Google....why dont you want it on the ethernet ? <13> torsionbalance: i have to be a gateway for other people in my house, so i need the eth free <19> Testicals 1... 2... <19> /echo testing <19> wtf <13> torsionbalance: i think i have found the firmware http://files.dlinkpedia.net/firmware/stable/ but I don't know what to with <19> Its kopete in irc <13> torsionbalance: i think i have found the firmware http://files.dlinkpedia.net/firmware/stable/ but I don't know what to do with* <19> fist time using it <19> So i feel bad now.. my brother got dsl and canceled it because he couldn't get it to work with the gentoo computer i sold him <20> diamonte, dsl is pppoe? <19> Yes <20> diamonte, it should be easy, my D-Link router can do it <19> i have a dlink router too <19> but he doesnt <21> diamonte: looooooool <1> hey all, im wondering why when i put my laptop into hibernate, and come back, the hwclock is set wrong? why does it do that? shouldnt the hwclock keep runnign whille it hibernates? <19> What? coca_ <20> diamonte, it's like $20 <21> --> So i feel bad now.. my brother got dsl and canceled it because he couldn't get it to work with the gentoo hihi <21> why didntt you help him ;) ? <2> Nazgul: Sorry for not searching it for myself, Im kinda busy right now trying to get X to work properly. Search for any howto articles or something of the sort on the net. Have you enabled USB DSL modem support in the kernel? If all fails, just download the firmware and copy it in /lib/firmware (with the same filename that it has on the server ) <19> coca_: over the phone <21> what ovee phone ? <19> coca_: setup dsl
