<0> Ok, I'm trying to upgrade this sytem. IICU, I have to upgrade portage to get a >= 2.0.51, to support cascading profiles. So according to the docs I found, I switched to the "/usr/portage/profiles/obsolete/amd64/deprecated" profile. However, when I try emerge -n '>=sys-apps/portage-2.0.51'? I get "!!! ARCH is not set... [...]" What is wrong? <1> iamben: any tips on what to include? <2> IHK: good guess, you need to add connection tracking <3> anyone know whats wrong with the use flags? <1> iamben: not syncing VFS panic <4> www.picotux.com <-- man i gotta have one! <4> lol <5> anyone here still using kde 3.4 icons? <6> iamben, and were i find that? <1> iamben: so anything i should include in kernel? <2> dracony: you've checked to make sure you have the correct ide driver and correct FS drivers enabled <*> and not <M>? <5> IM looking for one in particular... the k3b one (was a disc with a flame on it) <7> hey all , do you guys know if sourceforge's anonymous cvs server has schedules downtimes ? i have been trying to co a project for a while but my connection is being refused <1> iamben: i am doing it over now <7> *scheduled <2> frayday: yeah sourceforge's anon cvs ****s, it rarely works for me
<1> iamben: i will include all <6> it also says ipt_state not found, which module is that i need to add to kernel?? <2> dracony: i dont know if "all" is a good idea, i just do the correct ones from lspci <7> iamben: ugh ... so how do you manage to checkout anything? <1> ok <1> iamben: should i add hotplug <2> IHK: its under ip netfilter configuration, under networking options <2> dracony: i think itll add itself if something needs it <8> frayday: Large doses of prayer and sacrifices <1> ok <2> frayday: the only cvs i use is e17, and i have an alternate server for that <7> AllenJB: i am on my knees holding a big butched knive and a goat ;-) <7> iamben: i see ... okay. I guess i'll just keep trying :) <8> frayday: Don't think that's good enough <7> *butcher <9> iamben I think my keyboard might be the source of the lagging because it is starting to display things I didn't type <1> iamben : pcmcia? <7> AllenJB: hmm well i ain't sacrificing my box <2> dracony: if its a laptop, enable it <1> ok <1> where is that part where udev is mentioned? <5> anyone' <10> Hi, I've got a backed up MySQL database that I'm trying to restore like this: http://pastebin.com/536645 but I would like to avoid adding users and their permissions. I just want the tables. Is there a simple way of doing this? <1> iamben: which pci acces mode? <2> dracony: like i was saying, udev is not in the kernel at ALL, it is completely userspace <1> ok <1> then why doesnt it see my hdd? <9> iamben I fixed my DNS problem but this lagging has to be fixed <1> iamben: then why doesnt it see my hdd? <2> dracony: i dont know, you probably left out an ide driver or fs driver <2> Phat32: not sure why your keyboard is lagging... is everything slow, or just typing? <8> gdi2k: Edit the .sql file and comment out the relevent sections <2> dracony: is this machine ide, sata, or scsi? and which FS is / on? <10> problem is gedit doesn't handle the file without crashing (it's 4.5 MB). would have to use nano or something, making it a very tedious task... <1> ide <1> reiserf <9> looks like just typing but I noticed that the lights on my raid 5 hdds are blinking in unison when it lags <1> iamben: ide, reiser <2> dracony: check which ide controller with "lspci | grep IDE" <9> iamben I think the lights blinking is a coincidence <2> Phat32: i was gonna suggest checking from dma on your hard drives, but then i remembered you were on scsi hw raid =) <2> s/from/for <1> 0000:00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82801DB ICH4 IDE (rev 02) <10> AllenJB: Would save me a bunch of time if it was automated. How are the user permissions organised in the SQL file? Under each table, or is there a seperate section for user permissions (making commenting it out much simpler) <1> iamben: 0000:00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82801DB ICH4 IDE (rev 02) <2> dracony: ok you'll need to make sure you get "Intel PIIXn chipsets support" <8> gdi2k: All the mysql user permissions will be in the mysql.* tables <1> where is that? <1> iamben: where is that? <2> device drivers->ata/atapi <2> i actually think that intel driver will be enabled by default, so that whole ATA section is probably ok at default... check anyway though <10> AllenJB: ok, sounds like a tricky task. I'll give it a go. Would there not be a section somewhere that defines users or something? <1> this was included before <11> 7j amsn <1> iamben: this was included before <2> yeah its on by default, continue w/ the config and make sure you definitely get reiserfs when you get to filesystems <12> How can I save an applet to a file, so I can use it locally? just saving *.cl*** doesn't work. I think this may have something to do with its dependencies. <9> iamben I want to see if it still lags via ssh from putty <2> good idea <1> iamben: reiser on, compile? <8> gdi2k: They'll probably all be in a section together. .sql files are usually ordered by table, so you just need to find the sections for the mysql.* tables and comment them out
<2> dracony: yeah give it a go <10> AllenJB: ah, nice. Thx for your help! <2> dracony: and with a manual kernel like this, you dont need any fancy initrd or anything like that in your bootloader... try booting the straight kernel <1> iamben: make && make modules_install <2> yes <1> iamben : taht wasnt a question :-p <2> i dont mean to treat you like a moron, but make sure you have /boot mounted when you install this kernel =) ive seen that cause a few problems already tonight <1> iamben: grub appended <1> iamben: if i dont mount it, i will just copy /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzimage <1> iamben: thats not a problem <2> umm what? <2> if you dont mount, itll get put on your / FS instead of your /boot FS <1> iamben: bzImage is the kernel, isnt it? <2> yes <2> grub will be looking on the /boot partition, you need to make sure it gets put there and not on / <1> iamben: ok, wanna play an online game? <2> what? <13> 0_o <1> iamben: there is agreat game in kde -- atlantic <1> iamben: i guess it will take some time to compile, so lets play <2> hmmm not in kdegames i see <1> iamben: its like monopoly <2> is it gtkatlantic? <1> iamben: no its Qt <2> dracony: whats it called in portage then? <9> Can anyone help me get sshd working real quick? <1> iamben: its part of kdegames <9> I keep falling asleep in my chair <2> oh there it is <2> Phat32: whats the problem? <1> iamben: but you can emerge gtk version <1> iamben: i guess it doesnt matter <2> dracony: what server? <9> I want to try to work with gentoo from my windows xp box over ssh./ maybe the keyboard lag problem won't effect it that way <14> anyone noticed a problem with the latest alsa? <1> iamben: error while loading server list, i will try again <2> Phat32: so start sshd w/ /etc/init.d/sshd start <1> iamben: i guess there are no servers now <2> dracony: im getting a server list fine <1> iamben: give me a hostname <2> smart.game.bishopston.net <15> hi, how can I print the description of an installed ebuild? thanks <2> port 11239 it looks like? <1> iamben: connected <16> hllo <1> iamben: create a game <9> iamben there is no lag at all <9> iamben so what is the deal with my keyboard/mouse combo board thingy <2> dunno... usb or ps2? <9> ps2 <2> honestly i dont even know where to start, never seen that <2> muahaha all the railroads <16> hello <16> i have a celeron cpu <16> so how can i setup stage version _? <2> adem: depends on what gen celeron <9> iamben my keyboard looks like this --> http://www.cmishop.com/store/ShowDetails.asp?txtProductName=185152406-BX&txtMfgPartNo=185152406&nCategorySubID=125&txtSiteTrack=FG <2> if its just a regular ps2 kb, im not sure what could be wrong... check dmesg for any errors <16> iamben, celeron 2.4 <16> 32 bit <2> adem: treat it like a p4 then <2> its got a p4 core <1> iamben: is it still working? <9> iamben the whole reason I tried gentoo is because freebsd, debian, knoppix, and several others would recognise the mouse but the smart start cd that came with the raid array controller does <9> wouldn't* <1> iamben: i think it halts <16> iamben, <2> the game? its stuck waiting for you to raise cash to buy that thing <16> Am i setup stage3-x86-2005.1.tar.bz2 ? <17> emerge -uDN world means update every package and recompile with new use flag? <2> adem: use the pentium4 stage <16> why <0> Trying to update portage to 2.0.54, emerge first wants to install app-misc/pax-utils-0.1.4. But it fails this way: http://pastebin.com/536658 <16> my cpu is a celeron
