<0> Damn. <1> does anyone prefer a certain filemanager? <2> ,wiki <3> go check the wiki at http://fluxbox-wiki.org/ <1> ok _markt tnx <4> That's at least the second time that question has been asked today <1> Ardonik: im split between using an mc-like fm to a graphical one like konqueror for simple drag and drop jobs <1> i've been spoilt by m$ exploder too much :/ <2> learn to use the shell <4> nocti: remember that fluxbox is just a WM. If you want a full drag-and-drop-capable desktop and filemanager that's lightweight, there are full-blown desktop environments that would be better matches for you. <4> My file manager is aterm (seriously.) <1> hrm, i would rather stay with flux than switch to an eye-candy'esque wm like gnome/kde <1> but i think i'll install konqueror just for the heck of it <4> Fluxbox is where the eye candy is, in my opinion. <1> me too :) i think fluxbox is prettier, but gnome/kde just push too much on that side <1> either that or im getting old
<2> you're definitely getting old <1> :) <5> nocti, i prefer konqueror <1> roger that <5> :) <4> I used to prefer velocity <4> Then I started using aterm <1> ld50: me too but just for some jobs (like cleaning up files), but i gravitate more to the kybd and terminals, must be the arthritis <1> Ardonik: velocity? <4> nocti: do a web search. <6> Ardonik: rox filer is small, lightweight, and supports DND. <6> But for most tasks the shell is best. <4> lack: good to know, though I'll probably never use it. <7> hello.. what these apps that display CPU/RAM status on desktop? <8> gkrellm <7> is this the only one and used by all? alternatives? <4> Mahmoud: there are many, many others. <8> there are many, that's what I use <2> google <4> adesklets, gdekslets, superkaramba, conky, torsmo, <4> Google Dot Com.... <7> what is the general name of these things? i was googling by no relative sites were found <4> A whole bunch of dockapps.... <2> linux system monitor? <7> dockapps! that's what I need =] <4> Monitoring apps, I guess <7> is it a fluxbox thing to hide the titlebar? <2> ,borderless <3> to get rid of borders, titlebars or other things add an entry to (fluxbox-0.9.x-versions) ~/.fluxbox/apps eg ""[app] (aterm)\n [Deco] {NONE}\n[end]" (\n == newline), or see ,decor for temporary borderless. you can also refer to the docs or the Changelog <7> cool =] <7> compiled APM into my kernel, reboot time <2> why would he do that? <9> it's older no ? used apic instead <2> acpi <9> woOps :) <10> oi <10> i have slackware 10.2 so i guess that means gtk2 installed. now i want to change my gtk look. i have the gtk the switch program but that only seems to change gtk1 apps. is that right? <2> ,switch <3> To change GTK1 and GTK2 themes, you need a theme switcher. Fbot recommends gtk-chtheme, for GTK2 and switch1 for GTK1, the urls: http://plasmasturm.org/programs/gtk-chtheme/ & http://www.muhri.net/nav.php3?node=gts <10> okay :) <10> then when i use this, why doesnt firefox and xchat change appearance? <10> in fact, othing changes <2> I don't care <10> right <2> 8) <10> o.o <10> urgh <10> it doesnt work <2> that's too bad <10> ... <10> where to start? <10> i wanna fix it <2> a gtk-related channel, perhaps? <10> interresting <10> crap <11> is it possible to set where on the screen a program will open to? <11> example. i would like for gkrellm to also opn to the right hang side of the screen <2> ,apps
<3> read all about the mystic `apps' file in the fluxbox manpage, section "APPLICATIONS SETTINGS" or at http://fluxbox-wiki.org/index.php/Howto_edit_the_apps_file . Basically, it allows you to define the state of applications when they are started and make them automatically group using regular expression matching. <2> or you could just use the window menu <4> unrooting: ig you're using gkrellm as a dockapp in the slit, its position is controlled by the position of the slot. <11> can u have more then one slit? <2> no <11> so gkrellm can only go into one slot? <4> You can have as many gkrellms running as you want. Try it! <11> ok but like when i use the slit can i tell it where i want it to go? or which slot??\ <2> Ardonik: this is what you get for giving extra information 8) <2> I'll take a "**** you" any day <4> _markt: point taken <4> Though I wouldn't resort to that <4> unrooting: Use the slitlist to control order. It's described in one of the fluxbox man pages. <11> alright <12> how do I make a comment in a fluxbox style file? <13> everything that is not a style elememt will not be touched. so basicly all that is !style is a comment <13> you can use # or ! to make it visible <4> # comment <4> or ! comment <13> or whatever you prefer <12> ok, thanks <12> hmm.. it can't be on the same line though? <13> nope <14> ,style <2> ,styles <3> get fluxbox styles from http://boxwhore.org | http://tenr.de | http://dugnet.com/klown/wallpaper/thumbs.php?dir=_themes/_fluxbox | http://browse.deviantart.com/skins/themes/fluxbox/ | http://mirror.usu.edu/mirrors/gentoo/distfiles/fluxbox-styles-fluxmod-20050128.tar.bz2 <14> Thanks :-) <12> when I run `fc-cache -fv | grep artwiz` I get: <12> fc-cache: "/usr/share/fonts/artwiz": caching, 0 fonts, 0 dirs <12> fc-cache: "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/artwiz": caching, 0 fonts, 0 dirs <12> but the actual directory contains a bunch of .pcs.gz files <12> but anyway, styles which use artwiz aren't working <12> and.. I can see the artwiz fonts in xfontsel.. anyone have a clue at what else I should check? <13> yu can see the fonts in 'xfontsel', then use the line this app provides and put it in the style <15> tell me how can my screen do blank if I did "xset off" <15> or xset s off <13> set it on? <15> why? :P I want my screen saverto be off <15> By blank I mean when screen "goes off" <15> or blank how do you wanna say it <13> again what do you want to do? <13> you mean get you screen instantly go off after you eg hit a key? <13> well, i'd say yes. 'xset dpms force off' <13> this is what you want i ***ume <15> http://pastebin.ca/90145 <- does that mean that screen blanking is off? <15> tenner: turn screen blank off... <15> tenner: :O dpms it is <13> 'xset s off' <--- set this and you screen will not go blank <15> lol <15> :D I was wondering what is "dpms" <15> seems like I had that option in xorg.conf <15> commented it let's see what happens ;) <13> /join #xorg <13> or read the manuals <13> can be very helpful <15> ;) reading is time taking <15> I prefer "ctrl + f" <16> reading maybe time taking, but patience is a virtue <17> ,tabs <3> tabs allow to group some windows together. in fluxbox-0.1.14 tabs appear outside the window, since fluxbox-0.9.3 tabs are embedded in the titlebar. to group them, drag the titlebar with the middle mousebutton onto another window and .. voila.screenshots are available on http://fluxbox.org/version-0.9.php Since SVN 4265 external tabs are back in fluxbox as an option <17> Hi to everybody :-) I've just compiled and installed 1.0rc2. Everything is ok, but I've a problem with tabs that I can't solve. I've googled a lot and tried different init/style configuration but I'm not able to solve my problem. I can make verical tabs work only in the right side of the window, because if I use them on the left side the text is shifted left and is almost not visible. Furthermore I can't get r <17> otated text. Tnx in advance for any pointer to a solution. By, Gabriele <13> gabriele: get svn, works here <17> Thanks tenner, where can I get svn? I've searched all the site but did't find the link! <13> ,svn <3> checkout: svn checkout svn://svn.berlios.de/fluxbox/trunk fluxbox && cd fluxbox && ./autogen.sh ... to update: cd fluxbox && svn update <13> ,subversion <3> subversion is here: http://subversion.tigris.org/ <17> Thanks a lot! I'll give it a try. Bye and thanks again :-) <13> np <18> How do i start Firestarter through the menu? I just get this popup saying that i need to be root. <19> with sudo <19> or su - <18> "[exec] (Synaptic) {sudo synaptic}" then? O.o
