<0> hi, can you recommend a minimalistic green-monochrome style to make fb appear like one of these monochrome boxes? <1> I bet you can get one of those monitors for free <0> sure, but... <1> actually, I have an Apple II-GS upstairs... <1> apparently connectors have changed in the past 20 years <1> wow, that thing doesn't even have a connector for an external monitor <0> :) <0> actually, I would be content with an optical reminiscence to these things inside fluxbox, in case such a style exists. <1> just make one <0> ok <2> hi <2> where I can get fluxbox themes ? <1> ,styles
<3> get fluxbox styles from http://boxwhore.org | http://tenr.de | http://dugnet.com/klown/wallpaper/thumbs.php?dir=_themes/_fluxbox | http://browse.deviantart.com/skins/themes/fluxbox/ | http://mirror.usu.edu/mirrors/gentoo/distfiles/fluxbox-styles-fluxmod-20050128.tar.bz2 <2> _markt thanks! <4> hi, i'm using freebsd6.1 and when selecting a style fluxbox says: "Fluxbox: There is no background option specified in this style." <1> ,background <3> 0.9.15 removed the "rootCommand" from styles. To set a default "nothing" background for your styles, do this: echo "background:" > ~/.fluxbox/overlay <4> ok..so there is no way to have the wallpaper autoload with the style anymore? <1> ,changelog <3> changelog is either surf to http://www.fluxbox.org/changelog.php or to http://tinyurl.com/mrkgy <1> http://fluxbox-wiki.org/index.php/Howto_set_the_background <4> yeh i've read that one <1> obviously not <4> but it's an inifile setting right? <4> oh must be another entry then.. <1> always was <1> oh, you mean init file; no <1> 2. Setting the Wallpaper with the style <4> i see <4> a much nicer way to set it...no more weird tools <4> thanks for the info <5> Hey guys, I am having some problems with menu transparency...would anyone be able to help me, please??? <1> http://fluxbox-wiki.org/index.php/Howto_set_the_background <5> let me take a look :) <5> so basically I need to install feh package? <1> that would be a good start <5> ok, thanks a lot _markt! :D <6> "configure: error: Fluxbox requires the X Window System libraries and headers." - how do i check to see if the headers were installed with x? <1> they weren't <6> lol <6> ok <7> what distro do you have? <6> trustix <7> what is that? <6> trustix secure linux - server distro <6> trustix.net <7> using what as its base? <7> I think we need about 500 more distrso <1> anyway, the package with the headers is bound to be something with a -dev or -devel after it <7> distros* <7> if its debian based you can apt-get builddep fluxbox <6> I'm not sure, I believe the developers built it from the ground up <7> that will install all the crap needed to build from source <6> The site says nothing about being based on debian or any distro for that matter <1> how do you install programs? <7> swmp <1> from source? or is there a package manager? <7> SWUP - The Secure SoftWare UPdater <1> ok, where does it get the packages from? <7> this looks like some kind of firwall distro <7> firewall* <6> I install from swup if available from source if not <1> how is it better than freebsd? <6> nope, its designed to be a secure server <7> hallowed: why does a server need X anyway? <6> it's just a test to see what kind of server load x will put on the system <6> I want to vnc to the server instead of using the command line. <1> then why do you need a window manager? <7> Ive never understood the X on a server thing <1> ditto <6> I can ssh, and have no problem with it, but I just _want_ to vnc to it to try it out. if I don't like it then 'll get rid of it <6> well this is turning futile, as I install, the list of dependant files just keeps growing <6> l;ol
<6> I don't have the patience to do it tonight <6> thanks for the help guys <8> heya, i was here like last week to get help with styles & the new 'background' style-command-thing <8> anyway, i found the issue i think why it was working erratically some of the time... i run gentoo and the fluxspace package i was using as the rootCommand in my init was broken <8> once i removed the broken fluxspace command from ~/.fluxbox/init, it worked fine ever since <1> yeah, fluxspace is wicked broken <8> yeah... well i haven't really investigated it much or anything yet <8> i knew it was broken but i didn't uninstall it or anything because i figured it was just crashing and not doing anything else, didn't think it would interfere with the operation of fluxbox if it never got loaded <8> and i was going to try to fix it* <8> is there anything else besides fluxspace that is as fullfeatured? (starting/closing apps for specific workspaces when you switch to them, allow different backgrounds, icons, etc) <1> gnome <8> i really don't care about icons, but it would be neat if i could just switch people to a beginner-workspace when i let someone use my system <8> haha <1> fluxbox and beginners don't mix <1> give them gnome <7> or kde <8> that'd require installing them :P <1> well, it's that or windows <8> uh... it isn't *that* hard to use <1> well, I'm glad I started with gnome <7> if you have new users to linux that you want to make feel comfortable and productive in linux fluxbox or any WM is a bad choice <7> if you just want to show your mom how cool you are and make her scared to use the computer then stick her in fluxbox with nothing <8> well, most people i let use my system just want to use aim or webbrowser <8> and i just get tired of having to tell them to right-click the background instead of looking for a start menu :P <7> then give them kde or gnome <8> and watching them freak out when they accidentally scroll to another workspace and think they broke something, lol <8> ok then, from now on i will direct all friends who wish to use a browser to my 12 year old sister's kubuntu system :P <8> because i refuse to waste time & resources loading all of that crap just so that someone can click a start menu for gaim rather than right-click a background for it <1> I just open the browser for them <1> fullscreen <1> and then turn off my keybindings <8> i just tell them to right-click the background/desktop to see the program list :P <8> it isn't like it's super-complex <1> you don't know the people who use my computer <8> most of the time it's like 'can i use the computer?' 'sure, go for it' *wait on them to ask where the icons are* 'hey, where are your icons?' 'i don't have any, just right-click the background to see the programs' 'ahh, ok' <1> "hiked a time of 33:13 today and then jogged down the whole trail with a time of 21:47. and that took everything i had. if i can do that, then i don't have to stoop to downloading porn if i don't want to." <8> *wait on omg what happened?!* 'omg! what happened?! i think i broke it' 'lol, just click the little arrow on the bottom left until you find it again', 'oh, you have seperate desktops, cool!' <8> hah <1> and that's from someone who DOES use fluxbox <1> today, I caught my mom cutting the cat's white hairs; she does not get to touch my computer <8> heh <8> my mom runs debian on & off <8> my sister's only os is kubuntu <8> she doesn't really admin it or anything, though. she just boots/uses it when she feels like playing games :P <8> she can install stuff and use it fine with aptitude, though <8> although i have no idea why she prefers gnome <8> over kde <8> maybe that's why she doesn't use it as much anymore... <8> ahh, i bet i know <8> i think it's cuz of the whole double-click thing <1> she uses gnome on kubuntu? <8> no, my mom uses gnome on debian <8> next time i go to boot linux on her system for some reason, i'll see about setting her desktop to kde again and try configuring it so the icons require double-clicking <8> anyhoo... back to work <8> just wanted to report why my styles were acting funky previously in case someone was trying to look into it and couldn't replicate the error <8> and also dunno if not loading style backgrounds because of a messed up rootCommand in init is considered a bug <8> thanks for your time, adios! <9> is there a way in fluxbox to move the xterms around to maximize space <9> least amount of overlap? <1> :arrangewindows <9> hmm <9> how can i do this <1> ,keys <3> ~/.fluxbox/init -> session.keyfile: ~/.fluxbox/keys | read the wiki at: http://fluxbox-wiki.org/index.php/Howto_edit_the_keys_file <9> thanks! <9> i got it working <9> nice <9> thanks a lot <10> hi there <10> i upgraded my debian to testing <10> and installed the fluxbox package from dopey <10> but now (and with the fluxbox in testing) my eterm makes strange problems when startet with -x (no border) <10> it starts in the upper left corner of the screen, does not take focus and cannot be moved/resized/... <1> it must be setting CWOverrideRedirect
