<0> does anybody know if there will be legacy nvidia drivers available on livna?
<1> matyd: do you have 2 ntfs partitions?
<2> yes on one ext hd
<1> matyd: you didn't respond my question
<1> are they sata harddrives?
<2> its only one hard drive... have no clue if its sata or not
<1> THe line that I gave you is my line in ntfs and I have a SATA hard drive, but how about you?
<1> is it an IDE?
<2> i think so
<1> matyd: dammit! and how do you expect us to guess that?
<2> well let me check bro
<2> have no clue one sec
<1> matyd: what do you get when you type fdisk -l ?
<3> cdubya: Well, I'd ask this....when you boot, do you see messages that the drive was detected by the bios?
<2> pastebin.com/629760
<4> br***hopper, yes

<3> matyd: If you put in a complete URL - with the httpd and all that,. some of us can just click on it.
<1> matyd: duh! you have IDE not SATA!
<1> well
<2> http://www.pastebin.com/628760
<1> you have SATA and IDE!
<2> okay sorry
<3> cdubya: My guess as to what the message means is that grub has to know how the bios sees the drive so that it can access it during boot - boot is more or less the only time that the bios disk drivers are used by Linux.
<1> matyd: now, what ntfs partition you want to see in linux?
<2> sda1 and sda2
<2> i can see them just fine i just can't access them
<4> br***hopper, so any suggestions on how I can fix it?
<1> what do you have with df -h?
<1> do a pastebin also
<3> But the message you are typing says "deb" and the devices are usually "dev" - was that a typo?
<4> yeah
<5> hi, how to set automounting floppy, cdrom on FC5?
<2> http://www.pastebin.com/629771
<6> halo
<3> on your part in putting the message here? What command are you typing, and exactly what are you trying to do?
<6> is there a way to install packages from CD rather than downloading them (via Package Manager)
<1> matyd: ls -l /media/sda1 and do a pastebin also
<7> sorry, I'm back now.
<4> br***hopper, are you talking to me?
<3> b-owl: You can certainly just install them with rpm
<3> cdubya: Yes, the deb/dev/ message was to you.
<6> tx
<4> br***hopper, I meant to type /dev/
<4> sorry
<2> http://www.pastebin.com/629778
<1> matyd: there is your info
<1> isn't it that your info?
<2> what you mean?
<2> sorry....
<2> i can see whats in there yes
<2> but i can't open it
<2> ie. play music etc
<1> matyd: what are you trying to open?
<2> when i open konqueror and try to open /media/sda1/ i get You do not have enough permissions
<7> kwame, /mnt/ntfs1
<1> matyd: now, take in consideration that is very different to say "i cannot open" to "i cannot see my files"
<2> trying to get into /media/sda2/Music
<1> ok
<1> music = mp3 files?
<3> cdubya: Yes, I know you meant to type dev - the question is where - in the command that you were repeating, so your problem is fixed or into IRC? In any case, please typ the exact command you are entering and tell us what your intentions are with that command.
<1> CrippsFX: what?
<2> yes
<7> kwame, just ignore me. :)
<1> matyd: install xmms-mp3
<1> matyd: yum -y install xmms-mp3
<4> br***hopper, I booted the install disc 1 into rescue mode. Then I did chroot /mnt/sysimage. Then I did grub-install /dev/hda with the intention of installing grub on the hda drive where XP resides.
<8> anyone have a fedora-based firewall/gateway server they recommend?
<2> okay how do i open the mp3 files though? in konqueror i can't even open the /media/sda1 or sda2 files
<1> terje: huh?
<2> folders
<2> sorry
<1> matyd: use xmms
<8> kwame: a fedora-based firewall
<1> matyd: "can't open files" is too generic

<3> cdubya: Ahhhh....I did not know about the rescue mode or the chroot.
<8> something that I don't have to configure by hand.
<1> matyd: if you are trying to execute .exe files you will not be able to
<4> br***hopper, oh, OK. :)
<8> with some crazy*** iptables rules.
<1> terje: iptables
<2> it says: "You do not have enough permissions to read file:///media/sda1"
<2> that's what it says when i try to open the folder in konqueror
<8> kwame: that's not a helpful answer.
<4> br***hopper, so you got any pointers on how I can fix it? :)
<1> terje: why not? you can use iptables to configure a firewall
<3> cdubya: Of course, you have no network in that case, so you can't cut and paste the command into pastebin
<1> matyd: try opening xmms or rythmbox
<8> This I know..
<1> and then try to play your mp3 files
<9> terje: try firestarter
<1> if you get and error that cannot play the file go to http://www.fedorafaq.org and read, there is the answer to your problem
<8> that's a helpful answer, thanks Sonar_Guy.
<10> firestarter rulez
<2> The folder contents could not be displayed | Error opening directory '/media/sda1': Permission denied.
<2> that in rhythmbox
<9> terje: np
<1> terje: vi /etc/sysconfig/iptables :)
<3> cdubya: Are you sharing this system with a windows system? Did you install grub into the partition MBR?
<2> same goes for /media/sda2
<10> terje: yum install firestarter
<1> matyd: cat /etc/fstab and do a pastebin
<8> right on, thanks.
<2> http://pastebin.com/629796
<1> matyd: do you know what rw means?
<1> read and write
<2> ya
<1> do you write writing capabilities in your kernel for ntfs?
<2> crippsfx had me put that in the fstab
<11> Sonar_Guy: ping
<1> matyd: use this line /dev/sda2 /mnt/ntfs ntfs defaults,umask=000 0 0
<1> matyd: ok, you do it his way or mine
<9> rjune: pong
<1> his it looks it's not working, right?
<2> okay i'll try that one
<2> one sec
<4> br***hopper, all I know is that during the install process, I got prompted to upgrade from FC4....so I told it fine. Then the installer recognized that it couldn't find a bootloader, so asked me what to do. Since grub didn't seem to be installed, I told it to install it and it picked /dev/hda......my ***umption at that point was that the installer was taking care of installing it in the mbr, but I guess I was terribly wrong there.
<10> terje: and it has very readable help and configuration on its website: www.fs-security.com/
<11> do you have the URL for the dual drive dual boot fix handy?
<12> I was able to fix a Java problem that prevented Azureus from running. Then I rebooted into the new kernel, and I get the same error as I was getting before. I already have the j2re 1.5.0 installed; any way of fixing the problem?
<3> I just got company and have to leave - perhaps someone else can help you with diagnosis. I am sort of wondering if, in this case, you need to use the (hd1,0) format (with the correct numbers in it
<2> kwame: did that and remounted the drive
<9> rjune: http://fedorasolved.org/installation-solutions/dual-disk-dual-boot-issue-correction/
<1> matyd: did you do a umount /media/sda1 && umount /media/sda2 ?
<4> Sonar_Guy, kewl. thank you.
<1> and then a mount -a ?
<3> If it picked /dev/hda, that means drive boot sector - if it was putting it into a partition, it would have been like /dev/hda2
<11> thanks
<9> np
<2> yes
<1> and?
<13> how is the java path removed? i tried exporting a new path w/o java and logged out/in and it is still there
<2> i can open the folders
<14> seems like lots of people having problems with sun java
<14> doesent sun provide support for their runtimes?
<9> not me!! hehe
<2> says my files are not an audio stream
<3> cdubya: Try it with (hd0,0) as the device name instead of /dev/hda - just for grins. Do you have a /boot partition?
<9> che: http://fedorasolved.org/browser-solutions/sun-java-installation/
<1> matyd: are they mp3 files?
<2> ye
<2> yes*
<1> matyd: go to fedorafaq.org
<2> okay
<1> dammit
<1> http://www.fedorafaq.org/#mp3
