In fact, I used NetworkManager to get a wireless connection working with bcm43xx. After updating, NetworkManager and Wireless ***istant no longer believe that bcm43xx is a wireless adapter. <doojin> and you see the floppy drive <_priest> doojin: can i open your computer <doojin> no <doojin> the computer icon on the desktop <kbrooks> and then what, doojin <doojin> you see the floppy drive <doojin> double click it <kbrooks> doojin: i dont <doojin> Why don't? <_priest> doojin: please? <doojin> priest : please what? <__mikem> Sorrry to repeat myself, but where do I install themes for kde <mutk> kbrooks, 2 ways to access the floppy. Insert disk, and browse using the floppy icon. If you don't have one it may be that the floppy controller was not detected.. <doojin> mutk : nice answer <kbrooks> mutk: how do I force it to be detected <bernku> pyqt not found after upgrading to 3.16 version, how can i fix it ? <doojin> kbrooks : you don't have to force <mutk> kbrooks, Second way - use mtools and command line. <doojin> kbrooks : do you have a floppy drive? <mutk> doojin, Thanks mate :) <doojin> a floppy drive in your computer <kbrooks> doojin: yes <kbrooks> doojin: yes, i do. <doojin> The linux can detect it automatically <lorien420> Can anybody link me to a place to file bugs against FC5? <doojin> kbrooks : do you see a floppy disk drive in computer window? <_priest> bugzilla.redhat.com lorien420 <heuristik> lorien420, https://bugzilla.redhat.com/ ? <kbrooks> doojin: no. <mutk> Yes, LInux and Fedora or Red Hat usually does detect the floppy automatically. Some Asus motherboards have weird chipset that seems to trip up the detection. Like may p4TE .. <doojin> kbrooks : did you doubleclick computer icon? <lorien420> _priest, heuristik Yeah, couldn't find it. Thanks <mutk> s/may/my <kbrooks> doojin: The Computer window is open. <doojin> kbrooks : I don't have a club, better search google <doojin> kbrooks : xwindow, floppy disk drive <kbrooks> doojin: well, the drive isnt working. maybe it isnt even plugged in <doojin> kbrooks : did you plug it in? <kbrooks> doojin: I really don't know. I feel nervous about opening up my case to fix it <doojin> kbrooks : don't feel nervous, it is just nothing <kbrooks> doojin: i diidn't put the drive in. <kbrooks> doojin: Dell did. <doojin> ok <doojin> kbrooks : Does your windows os recognize your floppy? <kbrooks> doojin: I dont have windows <doojin> kbrooks : why not? <doojin> kbrooks : Dell computer have windows <kbrooks> doojin: going offtopic here <kbrooks> doojin: irrevelant <doojin> kbrooks : no <doojin> kbrooks : What kind of pc is it? <doojin> A fedora pc? <kbrooks> doojin: don't ***ume that I have windows on my pc. i have only ubuntu and fedora <kbrooks> doojin: a desktop pc <doojin> kbrooks : did you remove windows? <kbrooks> doojin: 2 years ago, yes <LLyric> I think we established that already <mutk> kbrooks, In a Terminal type dmesg |less Hit the / key and type floppy, and it will search for the word floppy. The kernel should be announcing in dmesg that it detected the floppy and loads the driver.. <doojin> kbrooks : you are probably good at linux <doojin> kbrooks : and you probably know how to search <kbrooks> doojin: shush <doojin> kbrooks : Did your floppy work? <doojin> It is weird <doojin> You have used linux for 2 years <doojin> and you notice your floppy doesn't work now? <phpmattk_> anybody good with rsync? what flags would i use to sync newer files between machine 1 and 2 rather than just syncing all of machine1's files to machines2s files <kbrooks> doojin: my comp has been constantly modified (when i was on windows) <doojin> kbrooks : did your floppy work before? <doojin> on linux <LLyric> phpmattk_: "newer"? It will only copy files that are needed <LLyric> phpmattk_: that's what rsync does <neilthereildeil> kbrooks: u just edited the shadow file by hand <kbrooks> doojin: please see above <neilthereildeil> i tried hashing my p***word and adding it <phpmattk_> i mean.. i want all the files on machine 1 that are newer than the ones on machine 2.. and vise versa <neilthereildeil> but that didnt work <kbrooks> neilthereildeil: no i didnt have the problem <neilthereildeil> it allows you to change ur p***word? <doojin> kbrooks : I don't see any <__mikem> does anyone know in what dirrectory I install kde themes please? <kbrooks> doojin: kbrooks doojin: my comp has been constantly modified (when i was on windows) <doojin> kbrooks : you didn't check your floppy for 2 years? <phpmattk_> the only thing i can get working is syncing all the files from 1 to 2, regardless if 2's copy is newer <mutk> kbrooks, doojin is making a good point here. Has the floppy - ever - worked before? Or have you never actually used it ? <neilthereildeil> i manually hashed the p***words and added them to the shadow file <neilthereildeil> and tried logging in <neilthereildeil> but that didnt work <doojin> kbrooks : maybe the floppy drive doesn't work at all physically <cypher543> how long would it take to format a 40 gig hard drive? <neilthereildeil> so i delted the p***word field from the shadow file <neilthereildeil> and not i can log in w/o a a p***word <kbrooks> mutk: it has worked before, on windows. a man named rick changed the floppy drives and added a brand new floppy drive <neilthereildeil> but for security reasons, i need a root p***word etc <doojin> mutk : do you know any graphical package manager for fedora? <neilthereildeil> how could i do that? <kbrooks> doojin: do u have fedora core 5 <neilthereildeil> it keeps giving me errors <doojin> kbrooks : yes <daMaestro> doojin, yumex <doojin> kbrooks : I installed it today <kbrooks> doojin: apps > add/remove sw <kbrooks> daMaestro: ... <kbrooks> daMaestro: pup is better <doojin> daMaestro : where is help files which contain things like graphical package manager? <daMaestro> kbrooks, ok.. i am glad you think that.. <doojin> oh <doojin> I already have a terrific manager <mutk> kbrooks, OK, so in the current hardware configuration the floppy drive has been seen to work using Windows. Good. So check dmesg and see if the kernel see's anything.. <mutk> doojin, There is pirut, pup, yumex and smart available as package managers for GUI. Each has their good points.. <doojin> mutk : the default manager has everything I need? <kbrooks> mutk: well, i BELIEVE it worked under windows. i recall thedrive working long before those modifications. and i do know that Windows detected the drive (it does read the drive unless you disable it) <mutk> kbrooks, Ok. Lets ***ume it is physically ok then. Look at dmesg .. <kbrooks> mutk: but now, the _bios_ and all operating systems will not detect the drive. the bios gives an A: error <doojin> damn it <doojin> the default pakcage manager stops <kbrooks> mutk: well, when i disable quick and quiet boot <mutk> kbrooks, Ok. If the floppy is not seen by BIOS, Linux has no hope at all in seeing it. <kbrooks> mutk: ide-floppy driver 0.99.newide - thats it <doojin> hmm <doojin> Why does it stop processing? <mutk> kbrooks, Ok . Yes that is the driver. It should say - Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 1.44M in there if it finds one. <mutk> cypher543, What type of system is it? <cypher543> custom built with a Samsung 40 gig hdd <kbrooks> mutk: Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 1.44M <cypher543> i386 <kbrooks> mutk: i lookd for 1\.44M <doojin> mutk : do you know why the default manager stops for a while and proceed again? <doojin> mutk : It took me 5 minutes
