<0> CodyDH, I did set it up according to fedorafaq.org, I think. <1> is it normal that rpm package version differs from pkg-config --modversion output? <1> like 0.0.8 vs 0.0.9 <0> CodyDH, this is what I get when trying to run the game: http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/h7up5z40.html <2> anyway else seeing really slow yum transcations atm ? ( I typed: yum provides artsc.h and its stilll not done with the filelists.xml.gz parts)... <3> Quadduc, Sorry, I'm not really sure on this. <3> Quadduc, Have you tried the game's webiste, or perhaps #linuxhelp? <0> CodyDH, no, i'll check them, thanks. <4> Hi all <5> Hi its me again ihad a jod to do+my connection broke. <4> I was wondering if someone would be able to give me a hand with something? I can't seem to figure out whats causing a problem :( <5> Could you please tell me how can i change the gnome's terminal background font? <5> the one you use while you right-click and open terminal <6> anyone know of a good ftp server that can do custom auth? <7> Any PAM-enabled FTPD can do custom auth. <8> Mac-Soritong, Just go ahead and describe the problem.
<4> I keep getting a "not enough space error" when trying to install. I go through all the normal motions, and then when it gets to the part where it installs the packages. It says something along the lines of "Transferring disk image...." and gets to about 80%, then fails saying there isn't enough space. <4> I'm doing an install on a clean drive with no other OSs on it, and the packages are about 6 gigs total, and it's a 30 gig drive. <8> Mac-Soritong, This is FC4 ?? <4> Yes <9> Mac-Soritong: attempting a network install? <4> No <9> Mac-Soritong: how much ram do you have in that system? <4> 256 megs <0> Uh-oh... ati-fglrx is v 8.22.5.1, while kernel-module-fglrx is v 8.21.7.1... could this be the reason wh I'm having problems? <10> how do you lock the screen with the terminal? <4> I've also verified the media, so I know it isnt that <9> Mac-Soritong: this is very early on in the install process right? before you get to attempt any partitioning? <0> mattwestm, xscreensaver-command -lock maybe? <8> Mac-Soritong, It's after, |Jef| .. I have seen it before in FC3 , it seems to be re-appearing in FC4.. Try linux text , install in text mode. Also try linux allowcddma or cdnodma . Finbal thing to try is swap out your CDrom drive. <4> This is after I select my partitioning. I select my partitioning, my packages, root p***word, etc. <8> s/Finbal/final <9> Mac-Soritong: you did manual partitioning? <4> No, I did auto. <9> mutk: how deliciously odd <8> |Jef|, Yep. ****s badly. Seen it in RHEL4 U2 as well. <4> I was really hoping I wouldn't have to do a text install, but I guess I have no choice :( <9> mutk: and its dma related? <8> |Jef|, Yeh. <9> mutk: cd dma specifically? thats even weirder <9> mutk: what is it doing misreading the the disk and bugging out? <11> could someone shoot me a link for FC5 test3 x86_64 <8> |Jef|, I suspect it simple has an eroneous error messge <8> * simply <11> im going through the mirrors - i cant seem to find an updated one... <9> [a]tomi: sorry i got mine via torrent <4> lets try it and see if it works <8> |Jef|, I reproduced a similar problem in FC3. allowcddma helped. I swapped out the CDrom drive and it helped. I found also that re-arranging the IDE devices so that the CDrom drive was on it's own channel helped too. The problem went away in FC4, and RHEL 4 though. Freaking weird. <9> mutk: yeah.. i knew about the issue with cds on the same ide controller as harddrives.... <9> mutk: cd drives play havoc with disk i/o with a disk on the same ide controller..fun fun fun <12> mutk: yeah, I ran into problems like that years ago. Since they I always do my best to put everything IDE device on it's own cable. <8> Mac-Soritong, Yeh, ok try re-arranging your IDE devices too. <13> does anyone think that i could get FC4 to run on the xbox with a few tweaks? and a lighter wm <14> hi there, I need to turn on telnet (not ssh- just telnet, for testing) in fedora, how can I do it? <14> ops <14> I did! <14> thanks <8> dcharles, chkconfig telnetd on <8> dcharles, chkconfig telnet on <---- I meant <15> Tinned_Tuna, I'm sure it could be done. <14> mutk, I did writing the file inside etc/xinetd.d/telnet <14> and restarting xinetd. but thks advice <8> dcharles, Ok. Much the same except chkconfig restarts xinetd too . <8> reloads actually <13> coool... <16> i'm impressed.. <16> the copy command recursively copies underlying mount --bind directories <8> Silivrenion, It can omit them too -x stays on loac filesystem <8> local even <16> yah <17> hey <17> has anyone installed ejabberd on fc4? <16> well i have a new server now, and I copied /var/www to an external usb drive... it copied all of my mount points automatically.. a real time saver <16> now i need to copy the server files onto the new server and set it up to work <16> what network services do I need to restart if I modified the network config?
<17> how do i install a bin file? <18> chmod a+x file.bin <18> ./file.bin <19> or you can usually just do sh file.bin <4> no luck guys :( ive tried the two modes, as well as text mode, and i get the same error about no space aviable <16> when trying to yum install things, I keep getting "Metadata file does not match checksum" for about 15 mirrors. Whats up with that? <8> Mac-Soritong, Try re-arranging the devices on the IDE bus ie try to make sure the cd is on it's own channel. <19> Silivrenion: yum clean metadata and try again <16> k <16> oh, also <16> since I am trying to extract as much old information as I can from my old linux server, I've been able to back up /var/www completely <16> but what about my mysql configuration? <16> is there an easy way to just drop that into fc4? <19> Silivrenion: both servers running at once? <16> yes <20> how is the /dev/* special files constructed? are they recreated at each reboot? <19> Silivrenion: I don't know the details of how, but i believe there is a way to have the old server connect to the new one and dump it's DBs <16> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki//dev <20> thanks <16> mount /dev/null / <21> hi <16> xD <21> very clean and cool this fc5t3 :-) <19> Silivrenion: that may not really apply to fedora, since fedora used udev <16> oh <16> my mistake then <19> sittisal: indeed <21> but software updater and add/remove apps are a piece of crap! <19> yum isn't working for you? <21> slow, the redraw of windows is very buggy <20> if i removed lets say /dev/dsp - would it re-exist when i reboot? <19> sittisal: eh, it is a test release <19> torbjorn: I believe so <21> AntonTakk: yes i know <21> but why not synaptic instead of pup? <16> is it possible to transfer user accounts from one machine to another? <19> synaptic is for apt <19> Silivrenion: yeah <21> mmm... no way to get it working together with yum? <19> sittisal: well, since apt4rpm is a dead project, not really <21> mmm... i came from ubuntu <21> so <21> fedora in desktop is more clear, eye-candy, easy... <21> but about package manager ubuntu IS THE WAY <19> meh, matter of opinion <21> updates, repository etc... <19> a package manager is a package manager <21> yes... <13> i say FC4s is better... but thats opinion... <21> another question <21> aiglx... <21> not about technical <19> that's not really a question <21> is it working quite stable? <19> well, you you look in the aiglx repo, you might notice the modified gdm and metacity packages are missing <19> as well as their srpms <21> why? <19> dunno <19> according to the wiki page <19> they are hoping to ship the modified mesa and metacity with fc5 <19> so metacity may already be ready <21> great <15> Has anyone here installed fedora via one one of the mirros like an ftp install? Just wondering how slow it is? <22> nvmd, fixed itself <23> hey all, if want to setup on my local network if someone types in crm.. it will take them to 192.whatever./crm/ .. would i used a named server to do that? <15> phpmattk_, You are saying if they type in crm in a browser you want it to link to a locally hosted page? <23> chuckyp: ya <15> hmmm... <23> i've seen it before on corporate networks where i've worked... i figured i could use bind/named to do it.. just not sure where to start.. googled, but couldn't find anything useful <15> phpmattk_, Yeah i'm checking on it. I'm just thinking about how it would work because the other pc's would be sending the request for the page out to the net first. <19> phpmattk_: yes, that required a name server <19> requires <19> or manually configuring each machine <23> what if on the client machines that is the first entry in the DNS
