<0> I'm having an issue with samba, since I changed my internal network to 192.168.x.x I can no longer see the samba server, any ideas?
<1> is your samba server on the same subnet?
<2> are you sure all your machines...
<2> yeah what wiseguy said
<2> also
<2> if your on a home network
<2> i would recommen 192.168.1.x
<3> Wiseguy, it seems everyone almost uses that card...guess i might have to spend more $$
<4> technet is ms's knowledge base, afaik.
<2> so that would make the subnet what wise
<5> unclemike, audigy 4 here. works fine.
<2> 255 255 0 0
<0> well, eth0 is an external IP, eth1 is an internal ip
<4> audigy's are up to 4? wow.
<1> unclemike, id be horribly surprised if that live card didnt work though
<1> i think 4 is external

<1> no?
<2> no i know that zcat lol i mean the hardware company
<5> unclemike, system-config-soundcard
<6> could someone explain to me how to set up dual monitors using 2 ati cards (one agp one pci)?
<3> i havent tried it yet in FC but all the other distro's ive tried it on...only front channel works
<0> and yes, it is the same subnet
<7> Don't you mean 192.168.0.x? the 192.168.* networks are supposed to be cl***-C (24-bit mask)
<7> the subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0
<1> ummm are eth0 and eth1 on the same subnet? cause you dont want that
<2> true but
<2> i have a smc router
<2> all my units are 192.168.1.x
<2> my router 192.168.2.1
<2> its still 255 255 0 0
<8> ok, I have a FC3 box that I need to upgrade to FC5. However I am unable to use a CD, floppy, or USB, etc. media. Google searches have not helped me much. How should I go about upgrading it?
<5> unclemike, play with the mixer
<7> you *can* do that but you're technically not supposed to
<5> unclemike, took me a while to unintuitively figure out that I had to toggle the Digital Output Jack to get sound working
<7> for 16-bit netmasks you're supposed to use 172.y.x.x, where y is between 16-31
<5> unclemike, wasn't default
<2> you can have 192.168.2.x
<7> e.g. 172.16.0.1 is the router for the 172.16.0.0 network (mask 255.255.0.0)
<2> you can have 192.168.1.x
<9> hello
<6> could someone explain to me how to set up dual monitors using 2 ati cards (one agp one pci)?
<9> any here use kismet
<1> roundeye, a little
<9> in fc4 i used to in stall with yum
<3> i have had people tell me that the same card i have works on there systems...so maybe ill put it back in and try it in FC5
<9> now im useing fc5 its not in the repos or w/ livna is there any 64 bit rpms out there or fc5 lismet rpms?
<9> wiseguy what fc?
<1> roundeye, i was only using it in my slackware days, i just switched over to fc about a month ago... im not really breezy when it comes to fedora's finer points, especially yum :P
<9> cool
<9> thanks any how
<1> im still trying to get the hang of all this point and clickness
<8> ok, I have a FC3 box that I need to upgrade to FC5. However I am unable to use a CD, floppy, or USB, etc. media. Google searches have not helped me much. How should I go about upgrading it?
<1> Maniaman, there is no network install option?
<8> Well
<10> hey guys whats new
<8> everything I've seen basically implies that I have to boot from something
<10> hey is there good support for sata in fd5?
<10> fd4 can't find my sata controller
<1> well it uses 2.6.x kernel if that helps?
<8> no floppy drive, and the cd drive decided it wanted to die on me today (or it may have bit the dust before that)
<10> nice, did fc4 use 2.4 kernels?
<9> no
<1> im nto sure, i didnt use fc then
<2> si there a fedora HCL?
<10> ok, you running fc5?
<8> that doesn't really tell me a whole lot
<1> yes
<2> where is it wiseguy
<10> Wiseguy: does fc5 come with kde 3.4?
<10> i like to see HCL myself
<1> lol sorry, i shoulda been more explicit... yes to daqqal about running fc5
<4> I'm sure FC4 used a 2.6 kernel, not a 2.4 one.
<1> im not sure about a HCL
<2> well i wanna get a new nic card for that machine
<2> but i wanna make sure it'll work
<1> well sata is controller by the kernel, not the distro...
<9> im tring to copile kismet from source it get to the make part and it tells me g++ command not found

<7> Wiseguy: yes, but there have been (at times) drivers in the Fedora kernel that are not in the mainline kernel
<1> ummm try doing it as actual root and not just su
<10> get anything with rtl 8169
<1> use su -
<9> how can i ad g++ to my system
<4> it's almost true that the cheaper it is, the more likely it'll work in linux.
<1> you dont have gcc?
<11> roundeye, yum install gcc-c++
<9> yes
<9> ok
<4> as far as nics go, that is.
<1> wwoods, oh really? well thats why i compile my own ;)
<1> g++ is gcc with c++ support.. what did you compile gcc with? :P
<7> there are very few NICs these days that don't work in Linux
<7> anything Intel will almost definitely work
<7> they write their own drivers for Linux an' everything
<10> e1000 drivrs
<5> had to compile my own Marvell driver until very recently
<9> is bout those bcm43xx drivers from berlios.de
<6> could someone explain to me how to set up dual monitors using 2 ati cards (one agp one pci)?
<1> daqqal, i think kde 3.5 comes with fc5... but i may have just updated, i cant remember now
<9> jkroon thank you
<7> wireless is a different story
<9> it looks like its guna work
<11> roundeye, np
<2> so is there a way to see if a card is compatable with fedora
<10> Wiseguy: nice, i'm downloading the dvd right now, i'll try to upgrade tomorow, the machine has fc3 right now, when i tried fc4, it did not see the sata drives, i tried an upgrade with yum, that did not complete, so now i'll just try an upgrade with fc5
<1> daqqal, well you know, you can recompile the kernel yourself with sata support... like i said, its a kernel thing, not a distro thing when it comes down to it, so sata is not unatainnable even if it doesnt work right off the hop
<9> daqqal what kind of sata hd d you have
<1> i would be shocked if fedora cut out the sata drivers from the kernel... but im too lazy to check, and my only sata drive is in an external case now with a usb hookup :P
<12> can someone explain to me how to access files on a windows hard drive
<1> when i did have it in my box it worked great in slackware... but i wasnt using a stock kernel either
<1> Altromer, on the same box or over the network?
<12> wiseguy same box
<10> roundeye: 01:0b.0 RAID bus controller: Silicon Image, Inc. (formerly CMD Technology Inc) SiI 3114 [SATALink/SATARaid] Serial ATA Controller (rev 02)
<1> Altromer, one HDD, or two?
<9> a controller card
<9> ?
<12> Wiseguy two
<1> windows partition is fat or ntfs?
<9> both
<12> ntfs
<9> ntfs is newer
<1> roundeye, i was asking Altromer what his SPECIFIC partitions were
<1> i know what the difference is :P
<10> Wiseguy: let me try to understand, i want to update the whole distro, if i compile a new kernel with sata support, how does that solv my issue of updating glibc, mysql, apache, php and all th dev utilities i need updated on that box?
<12> Wiseguy I did what fedorafaq.org said to do for FC4
<1> and whats the error you get?
<12> No error, I just dont know how to access it
<12> i believe its mounted
<9> daqqal why do you do a fresh install
<1> mount /dev/windowsntfspart /mount/whereveryouwant
<10> roundeye: that what it looks like i will have to do, but again if there is not support on the boot cd fo my sata drive, i'm stuck again
<1> do you know what device your windows drive is?
<12> sda
<12> or hd1
<10> roundeye: whats the hot key on linux boot option to give it a driver disk in fedora?
<1> Altromer, df -h will display the loaded partitions and their free space.. so if you think its already mounted it would be listed there
<9> the default boot kernel has sata sopport on fc4 and fc5
<1> Altromer, is the device sata or ide?
<12> sata
<10> roundeye: i'll try the fc4 cd again. oh, i am also on x86-64
<9> you shuold go with 5
<1> try this - mkdir /windows && mount /dev/sda1 /windows
<10> roundeye: thats what i thought, downloading it and will ty tomorrow
<9> it only takes the they have slimed down the install
<13> hm. how would I flash my palm pilot's ROM over usb?
<9> you only need the first 2 cds
<9> then you add packages with yu,
<9> yum
<10> roundeye: oh, i'm downloading the dvd
<9> you dont need that
<9> how your internet connetin
