<0> it certainly was weird. thanks for the help though :) <1> Bangers: If you have a bios that does not allow you to boot any hard disk but the first, you should probably install grub on /dev/hda's MBR and let it boot Linux or whatever else you have on the system <0> son of a bitch ....... <0> after all that work ..... <2> chmod +t /home/group/ what is +t ? <0> and buddy's got nothing but a whole whack of coding errors .... <0> that's it ... I'm grabbing his latest source and using this spec file to build it. <1> protoloco: ls -ld /tmp <3> hey guys quick question will fedora extra be like debian universe? <0> sklav, sort of, but not really ... no. <3> ok <0> sklav, fedora extras provides all the extra packages, like debian universe ... <3> too bad fedora could use a central type of repo for all those packages <2> br***hopper, ??? ls -ld /tmp ? <2> what do u mean ? <0> sklav, but all the non-free content is on the livna repo
<1> protoloco: What the -t does is preserve some owhership rights <3> ok <2> +t <3> i was just curious <1> I mean type the command ls -ld /tmp and observe the output - notice that t is set on /tmp as well <1> If you do not have the permissions on this directory set to 777, +t is probably not going to matter because with 755 only one owner can write in the directory. <0> I gotta missing some form of dep ... but I don't know what it is .... grr ... <2> br***hopper, ir preserver some ownership rights. with who ?? the new files in the directory ?? <4> br***hopper: yes i know that now..but how do i fix the MBR noww??? <1> Bangers: grub-install maybe ? From the rescue CD? <5> ugh, my machine just went crazy, screen is mostly locked up and m***ive HD activity, FC5 <1> protoloco: As I recall (I'd have to read it again) with a -t directory the file owner is the only one who can delete a file. <1> protoloco: With normal permissions, anyone who had write could delete. <1> Let me double check.. <5> I think it's the GUI, but can't seem to kill it <5> how do I get to a prompt? <2> br***hopper, :) <6> Didact: ctrl+alt+F! <1> protoloco: man chmod explains it - with -t set, only the owner or root can delete or rename a file <6> F1* <7> hi all :) <5> hmmm, anything I can do to regain control of the gui? <1> Didact: ctl-alt-f1 <5> not working <1> Didact: telinit 3 <5> major had disk activity <6> Didact: wait for it... or ctrl+alt+delete ;) <5> +delete will reboot? <6> nod <1> protoloco: It is used for world writable directories. <1> Didact: ctl-alt-backspace will kill X <5> k <1> Didact: but if you are running in graphical mode, it may just put you into a login screen <2> br***hopper, i added a directory the chmod 777 /home/user/directory and besides the +t .... <2> br***hopper, that file i share information with SAMBA... <5> ugh <2> what could do or dont do,, a user connected via Samba... from windows <5> mouse won't move <1> protoloco: I think you left out a critical letter here or there - I don't understand it. <6> Didact: are you using ext3? <6> Didact: for the file system? <2> :s <5> I did the default for FC5, I think boot is ext34 <5> ext3 <6> Didact: nod it is <6> Didact: just reboot <5> yeah, crap <5> bbs <6> Didact: you should not loose any thing <5> it's my firewall, etc <1> protoloco: you want to know what a user who has attached via samba can do when a directory is shared and that directory has 777 permissions <2> br***hopper, ya, i know... <1> protoloco: and whether -t is appropriate? <1> The answer is. yes, -t is appropriate. <2> br***hopper, but in the manual of samba, says add also chmod +t directory/ but i didnt know well what was +t <6> Didact: well ****. can you remote ssh to it? <1> protoloco: Well, now you know. If you are following the samba manual they probably explain it better than I do. <5> I've never ssh'd into it before <5> guess I'll get that free software <6> Didact: have another box on the network? <5> yep, this one and a few other
<2> I need a nice Benchmark .. or good one in linux ? <1> protoloco: It may also depend on how the credentials of the samba user are set - you can force everyone to have one permissions, or you can have people log in and get unix credentials. In the latter case, chmod +t dir/ is probably very important. <5> what's the free software called <6> Didact: Putty <6> Didact: for a ssh client <5> thanks <6> Didact: for windows <5> the deamon must not be running <6> Didact: well if no answer at console and no answer at remote then reboot <6> Didact: after it comes back up, read up on load balancing firewalls ;) <0> ... alright ... I sent an email to the project owner to get a list of deps so that I can include them in the spec file .... on that note ... I'm tired, and I need bed. goodnight all. <8> slow night here in fedoraville <8> hmm <5> I guess that's what I get for edit pics on the server <5> thanks to whoever was helping me <5> test <6> Didact: sure thing <6> Didact: sorry it came to the reboot <6> ok <6> true story ---> <6> customer calls intoday <6> "why is my server down!" <6> me  <6> so i hook a head up to it <6> its off <6> so i turn it back on <6> login to it <6> last command is shutdown -h now <6> from customer remote login... <6> nice <9> oh god, you shutdown'ed an entire server! <9> :P <6> LOL <10> wrong shell ;-) <10> I've almost done that once. after that, I made sure production and testing shell prompts looked different enough <6> i think customers should not have any sudo privlages but thats just me... <10> donkdonk: well, sudo is very flexible. you can restrict their access to a very limited number of commands <6> hyphenated: yar <6> but they own it... <6> but i manage it... <10> do they support it? <6> my job is to make sure it is connected to the net <11> is it me or does this chick look like a neandertal --> http://portland.craigslist.org/w4m/148572737.html <12> i think you found the missing link! <13> i think that's pretty mean. <14> I agree <14> opsec: are you ever not a jerk? <12> well i thought it was funny :P <14> well, yes it is kinda funny, but it's still mean <13> :S <12> its only mean if you say that to her in person <14> how do you know she's not here right now <14> opsec: why do you have to find a date online? <15> I personally think the craigslist site is an example of the lowest form of humour. <15> Which makes it very funny for all the wrong reasons <1> It is mean whether or not she is here - if she hears it, it is also cruel. I know people who purposely post bad pics on craigslist to shake out the shallow. That looks like a cell phone self portrait that was taken just a little too close, she looks fine in person. <15> br***hopper, The bottom line is tthat the author/owner of craigslist is a twerp. <16> hi, I am having trouble getting my ATI card to work in FC4 and I have already been refered to a couple of different sources about the matter, but have had no luck. So far, I've tried installing the drivers from the ati website, and I have tried installing ATI drivers with yum using the Livna repositories. Can anyone help me get this to work? <17> I'm using a Prism3 USB wireless adapter (built-in to this laptop as an internal module), and neither ndiswrapper nor hostAP will work with this particular one. I'm attempting to compile linux-wlan-ng, but it's failing. Has anyone gotten this to compile? <11> rjune: are you ever not? <11> i'm not looking for "dates" <11> rjune: FACT: she looks like chaka from "land of the lost" <11> not my opinion .. but a fact <16> it must be late where everyone is... <18> its about 12:30 here <16> so understandably there is little activity in this channel? <18> well, there isn't much going on here usually other than talking about fedora... logical <16> ah <18> i found something really cool <16> because I did ask a fedora related question <18> I found out how to skin wine <16> but nobody answered <18> what was the Q <18> i just got here
