<0> does the windows dns server use the same format for configuring zones in the zone files?
<1> does anybody know the free DDNS-Server and DDNS-Clinet ?
<1> I will build a DDNS-Server in PC, and run then Client in our embeded linux system.
<1> The "ez-ipupdate" is a free client, I install it on the embeded system successful, but I builded the DDNS-server failed. Can anyone help me ?
<2> people don't seem to be around in here to much

<2> unfortunately i'm new and i cannot help you
<3> RickyRayy: same format as what?
<4> hi all, i've pointed A records (ns1 and ns2) at my dns servers ip's, but when i'm trying to point a domains nameserver setting at my server and i get this error... " An error has occurred The error which occurred was: There is an error with one of the nameservers you entered. Nameserver [ns1.mydomain.com] doesn't exist at the registry Please use your back button and try again.
<4> do i have to do somethine else special with the A record? the domain is on godaddy for the name servers.
<5> needs a glue record
<5> some/most registrars require that ns records for domains have ***ociated A records with them (glue records)
<5> there is usually a section in the dns control panel that allows you to 'register' name servers
<5> http://www.google.com/search?&q=godaddy%20register%20nameserver
<4> EyeCue, do you know if there is such an option in godaddy?
<5> seems if you enter an ip address along with the hostname, it will create them
<4> eh? what do you mean? ip address along with the hostname? we already have a hostname for each dns server pointed at each ip..
<4> do name servers have to be their own domains authoratative server also?>
<5> the question is redundant
<5> one cant ask for a record from a server, which requires a lookup on itself
<5> hence the need for glue records
<5> i mean
<5> for example, say glue records didnt exist
<5> and i wanted to resolve www.yourdomain.com

<5> and caching isnt brought into the equation
<5> if your parent dns server didnt know what ip to send the request to, your authoritive server couldnt answer it
<5> uh, let me rephrase that :)
<5> me asks give me ip for www.yourdomain.com, your parent says, go and ask ns1.yourdomain.com, but ALAS, theres no A record for ns1.domain.au at the parent, it cant give me the ip for which to ask from
<4> ok i guess i need to register the hostname i've set, ns1.mydomain.com at my ip as a registered dns server record.
<5> corret :)
<4> just need to find that option in godaddy's interface
<5> +c
<5> as i said
<5> http://www.google.com/search?&q=godaddy%20register%20nameserver
<5> plenty of results
<5> with a pdf, and some with screenshots too
<4> :) thanks
<4> EyeCue, thanks for the help.. just went through it, you have to set the hostnames as normal for A records in dns control, then you have to go into domain host summary, and add the 2 ns hostname records and their accompanying ip's implicitly
<5> i dont use godaddy
<5> :]
<5> but youre welcome
<5> but yeh, add host <name> <ip>
<5> usually does it
<5> each registrar is slightly different
