<0> Question: given a domain/subdomain, is there a way to query a dns server to obtain all the valid subdomain/subsubdomains? ie, a way to query 'example.com' and find out it has 'www.example.com', 'something.example.com', and 'more.example.com'? <1> yes, though it is usually disabled. <0> dang. Alrighty, thanks. :) <2> Ok, I'm getting pretty ticked off at Windows DNS server. I just set it up last night, and this server acts as the gateway for my home network as well. It keeps ***igning two IP's to the main A record, one of them being the internal IP. Guess what happens when that's the IP that is returned upon a query? :) It's friggin pissing me off. I keep deleting it, and it keeps coming back. Any ideas of how to get the damn thing to GO AWAY?!
<2> Nvm. haha, just found it in network connection properties. <2> <--Happy now <3> dano parameters of your network cart <3> in tcp-ip advanced <4> anyone up <5> twkm: i don't know if you're interested but it would be nice to get your opinion on this, the guy i spoke of earlier called me and we talked for a while, apparently he is convinced this his method works for any nameserver because he queries the root nameservers for the list somehow, he didn't give details, i told him to send a list of those 440 domains he had on my company so i can send back to him a domain that works, is in our nameservers and not in h <5> will be interesting to see what happens <5> everyone in this channel who has commented on this has said that there is no 100% proof way of getting a list of all zones in a certain nameserver <5> of course this is still about gTLD's, not ccTLD's <5> i'm pretty sure it doesn't work because i know we have more than 440 gTLDs <5> i'd just like to see which domains are in this list <4> im trying to setup nameservers on my server <4> i have 2 seperate ips <4> and am point ns1.mydomain.com to the first ip, and ns2.mydomain.com to the second ip
<4> the reverse is the same for both <4> but when people change their domain nameservers to mine, they don't work <4> also dnsstuff.com timeouts my request for both of them, i don't understand what i need to do to setup an actual namserver. <5> read the bind documentation carefully and you'll get it, i'm afraid i had a cheat sheet when i setup my first nameservers because my boss had already done it so i just read his files and setup my own based on that but it is real simple if you know how <6> Hi all... I've got a somewhat obscure question about the RFCs... <6> ...I've read (specifically in J. DeBoyne Pollard's writings) that round-robin DNS is theoretically ineffectual <6> because "When handling a response datagram, a DNS client ... is under no <6> obligation to preserve the ordering of the resource record set as it <6> is received." <6> So BIND and others will return all of the A records matching a query, in a random order, under the ***umption that the client will take the first one offered <6> So here's my question: if this approach fails because the client can simply re-order the list of answers, why isn't round-robin implemented by returning a random SINGLE resource record? <6> Does any authoritative nameserver currently do this? Is it a violation of RFC (i.e. "MUST return all records)? <6> Anybody have a clue on the subject? <7> it can be changed <7> though, he's not interested
