See results at http://popcon.debian.org/ or install popularity-contest to participate. do the dpkg-reconfigure -plow popularity-contest right after you answered all debconf stuff <9> itguy: putty is the best ssh client for windows
<11> !info putty <10> putty: (Telnet/SSH client for X), section net, is optional. Version: 0.58-3 (sid), Packaged size: 278 kB, Installed size: 616 kB <11> stew: so i can use the remote desktop in windows and i connect to my debian box <15> hi all <6> # setxkbmap sv / Error loading new keyboard description <-- is the message I get <14> jeb--: xorg, right? <6> xorg, yeah <14> jeb--: i'd like to know how to get that working again, too <12> Now debian wants to erase a partition to install yaboot but i'm moving the harddisk to an old world mac with mac os 9 bootx kernel loader, so has the installation completed and can I shut it down. Or will it configure something after 'select monitor resolutions' and 'install yaboot' ? <11> stew: <10> Updating debian files... please wait. when i did info putty <11> stew: should i run apt-get update <16> jeb--, tarzeau: trying to get swedish keyboard? <14> digits: no i have de_CH and en <15> i would like to burn my customized debian system onto a bootcd and have my own bootable distro, can anyone point me in the right direction? <14> only swedisch thing i'd want are girls <16> tarzeau: hehe <6> HALLELUJA! sv_SV didn't work, and neither sw - but sv!!! woho! <6> thanks all! <16> jeb--: se_SV <12> jbaloul: debian testing live cd with installer see kanotix.com on how to customize debian testing <6> digit: sv funkade fint. <16> jeb--: ok <15> dennis_p, thanks man, i will check it out <17> hi, i want to suspend my notebook, but there is noch file /proc/acpi/sleep <12> so anyone know is installation/configuration cmomplete afetre kernel install and setting display resolutions, can I shut down now? there is no option to skip the mac bootloader install step and i guess it is ok to turn off computer <18> what is a good choice to develop aplications in "visual" C++? what IDE should i use? what are the best choices? <1> exit <19> c4_: vim or eclipse :) <19> c4_: oh, maybe visual emacs <20> c4_: vim is the way <18> ok <18> Bucciarati, Gandalfar: and do i get a kde like aplication with that? <20> c4_: gvim <18> ok <21> c4_: Try Code::Blocks and see if you like it. <18> so, vim-gtk? <18> ok <12> or kdevelop <20> c4_: g is not for gtk <21> http://www.codeblocks.org/ <18> aa... ok <22> hi <22> xD <23> I'm trying to get debian to boot from a labelled ext2 partition using initramfs. When booting, initramfs fails saying that it was unable to mount the root (labelled) filesystem and drops me into a busybox shell. It noticed there's no "/dev/disk" directory available which should contain "by-label" what could imply that udev isn't running. Now, after waiting for a minute or so the "/dev/disk" directory gets created. What could be wrong? Ho <23> w can I see where "udev" is hanging? <24> hi guys <24> i think nothing :P <12> c4_: check planetkde.org to see how others are doing it, pick a person and look at their blog history <25> machuidel: the devices as seen by your initrd are _inside_ that initrd image, udev will hardly be a part in that but started only _after_ the initrd is no longer used <18> ok <25> machuidel: iows: udev has nothing to do with your error <23> valdyn: I'm using initramfs instead of initrd. I get dropped into the initramfs busybox shell and only after waiting for several minutes the "/dev/disk/by-label" node including symbolic links gets created. <23> the root filesystem is not being mounted <12> is the debian testing installer ready after it asks what resolutions your display supports? <25> machuidel: that doesnt imply that /dev/disk/* is needed to boot or that udev has anything to do with your error <25> dennis_p: you're already past the installer if you saw that question <23> I need /dev/disk/* because I name my filesystem using labels. Like "root=LABEL=rootfs" <26> You don't need /dev/disk for that... <25> dennis_p: the questions is triggered by installing X, which might have been triggered by you selecting certain things in tasksel. The installer is no longer involved though <27> I know I asked it before but what is the easiest way och getting the kernel sources installed on my system? <26> apt-get install kernel-source-2.6.8 <28> hello, will there be a problem if i run amd64 on a 64bit p4? ive seen a em64t kernel when i did a search on the debian site. <12> valdyn: yes i thought so, so i can shut down without hosing the stuff installed to hd and start working on getting the bootloader bootx running <29> hi all <25> paotsin: debian/amd64 runs on emt64 cpus, those kernels are more hardware specific than the distro <23> resiak: then, what do I need for that? <27> Couldn't find package kernel-source-2.6.8 <29> how do i create an iso file from the command line <25> dennis_p: yes <12> thanks <30> Does anybody know roughtly when /dev/zero was introduced to Unix? <26> machuidel: Oh, actually, I don't know about using labels in the kernel arguments. Sorry.
