<0> ma3x: No, your issue was a user issue, not a dev issue <0> Anyway, I'm off <1> ma3x: only if you want to discuss a patch you made along with it <2> ma3x: it's not for help . it's for people who develop .. <3> ma3x: Do you have kernel framebuffers enabled.. ? <4> gravity, but i'm sid user, so ? <0> ma3x: Like azeem said <4> drac, what's that? <5> ma3x: are you using daenzers packages from 2004 for sid's xorg? <3> ma3x: lsmod | grep fb <4> drac, nothing comes up <4> valdyn, yes I think so! <3> ma3x: good.. <4> valdyn, not right now, but will install them <2> hehe <2> this is getting better and better
<4> valdyn, you think its a good idea? <5> ma3x: nope <4> abrotman, why you think so dude? <4> valdyn, and why not? <2> which one of the 6023 reasons would you like? <6> !qotd0 <7> <yevgeniy2> !sest <yevgeniy2> !test <yevgeniy2> !test <yevgeniy2> !test -!- yevgeniy2 was kicked from #debian by debhelper [flood] <7> No, yevgeniy2, you're not online any more. <8> Am I "allowed" to set my default route to one that another route is needed to reach? <5> exobyte: that is common usage <8> valdyn: hmm- I didn't know that <8> valdyn: I also think windows doesn't like that, but that's not saying much <5> exobyte: im sure that works in windows too <9> ok I installed the ATI driver <9> what must I change in my XF86config <10> how can i stop the boot process to read/write down errors that occur during bootup? <9> cause the readme says nothing <2> ctrl-s ... maybe <10> let me try that <11> okay azeem, abrotman, guess that will solve my problems, thanks for your help :). Another small thing that's bugging me, any way I can configure eSound? XMMS can't use it :/ <2> use another player? .. or configure the xmms plugin correctly ? <9> guys <12> anyone on etch got problems to start eclipse with sun's jdk? <11> abrotman, all I get in the config is a remote option for connecting (or serving) and buffering stuff o.O <9> what driver do I change my XFreeconfig too when I installed the ati driver? <13> hello <11> or something else would be how to make alsa store the settings after reboot so I don't have to run alsaconf everytime (alsactl store seems not to work) and so XMMS uses it without displaying an error of "device in use" when another app plays sound? <13> is there a way to change .fw file into modules ? <2> x-[Kaiser]-x: under options .. the Audio IO plugins .. choose a better one <14> is there a way to just list directories and subdrectories, without files? <9> anyone got ATI cards here? <15> phydoxx: "find -type d" <0> aethera: Yeah, but I use the Free driver <11> I try to use Alsa, but then I have to run alsaconf and alsactl store everytime I boot because it doesn't loads, and now it doesn't even wants to play, because "the device is in use" even though I'm not doing anything :/ <5> exobyte: maybe you really are referring the special case where you'd implictely override your gateways routing settings, that's not possible naturally <14> stew, ah, been researching for the wrong command. thanks :) <16> Hi, anyone to offer help for not being able to write to my USB stick ? <17> BennoZ: the uid/umask options. man mount. <17> BennoZ: The easy way around this problem is to install gnome-volume-manager -- it'll automatically mount your USB stick with appropriate permissions. <9> gravity: I installed the ATI driver <9> but it did not change my xfree config <0> aethera: ****s to be you <16> pipeLine: Sorr, I'm a starter. I noticed it was checked "read only " which I removed, but that did not help <17> BennoZ: You're a starter? <18> anyone know about these errors when trying to load the nvidia module? : <18> nvidia: Unknown symbol register_ioctl32_conversion <18> nvidia: Unknown symbol unregister_ioctl32_conversion <17> shad0w1e: Looks like your module is built wrong. <19> BennoZ: beginner? noob? newbie? <16> pipeLine: Yes, I did the Sweex router mod, installed thttpd on a stick, it works, but now I'm not allowed to copy any files to my stick. <17> BennoZ: I have no bloody idea what you're talking about. <2> gravity: work harder! <20> gah, i installed alsa-base and have no sound <0> abrotman: for loops are doing the job for me :-) <21> !alsa 2.6 <2> did you turn your volume up in mixer ? <7> On Sarge with a 2.6 kernel, to use ALSA, apt-get install alsa-utils discover1. You may need to run alsaconf too. No more faffing about with OSS modules. Remember to tell your applications and libraries to use alsa, to get any benefit. <2> gravity: use trained monkeys! <0> abrotman: I wish I had some <4> gravity, ME! <2> gravity: grab someone from the NM queue :) <4> :p
<13> how should i do so as to use .fw files as drivers ? <4> abrotman, nevermind queue? <0> abrotman: They're all scared of X <2> hehe <4> gravity, you too, didn't fix my DRI! <4> :p <4> but who cares, I don't play games <1> ma3x: pfft <0> ma3x: I'm trying to fix the rest of the Debian X packages right now <0> It's kind of a big task <4> azeem, whaddup aphro? <20> abrotman yea i've played with many different mixers mutes and unmutes...i'm trying the dpkg thing <2> !alsa checklist <1> ma3x: well, you just wasted our time for something you don't even need? <2> !alsa-checklist <7> i guess alsa-checklist is 1) run alsaconf 2) add your user to the audio group 3) use alsamixer and make sure levels are up and it is unmuted 4) arts or esound stopped? 5) OSS modules unloaded? 6) speakers on? 7) does `cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp` work for root? <18> pipeline, well I built it using the module ***istant. any other suggestions? Thanx <0> Great to know <1> gravity: is there going to be another 6.9 upload before 7.0? <9> brb <0> azeem: I haven't decided yet. Probably though. <4> azeem, it's nice to have , maybe someday my children will play <0> azeem: I'll probably put back the evdev stuff, remove the acpi patch, etf <2> no way .. straight to 7! <1> gravity: ok <17> shad0w1e: Something's pretty screwed up, then. And there's really nowhere to go from here: closed source drivers make debugging impossible. You'll just have to wait for nvidia to fix it, or downgrade your kernel / video driver. <11> dpkg, how to do 2, 4, 5 and 7? <22> hm, didn't apt fetch incremental package list updates for some time? <18> pipeline, yes but the nvidia driver works!! <18> just not the debian one! <17> shad0w1e: uhh... riiight. <17> shad0w1e: I'm standing by my "PEBKAC" explanation. <4> gravity, you'll really fix the DRI problem? <18> wats that? <0> ma3x: Let's just say it's low on my list of priorities. Really low. <16> pipeLine: There is a mod for a sweex router to act as a webserver. I did add USB to the router and flashed is with firmware which boots from the USB stick. On the USB stick I did create a file system for linux with webserver. That all works fine, except the fact that the webserver only shows the message " it seems that this roouter rig works fine" which is in the /var/www/ directory, in the index.html. Now, I plugged the USB stick into the Li <23> whoever wrote that factoid and recommends catting /dev/urandom to /dev/dsp is an idiot. you should never ever do that <16> nux PC (Knoppix running from harddisk), which mounts the USB stick, shows it's contents, says User Knoppix is the owner for reading and writing but still does not allow me to change or add files.. <4> gravity, didn't know you contribute to that. Bravo anyway <18> Im thinking that If I use nvidia drivers and take it out of the rc2.d, maybe It'll work? <18> bec the nvidia drivers work until I reboot, and get the "removing TLS links" thing <24> BennoZ, /join #knoppix <23> it might seem like some cool, unixy command line trick, but it is incredibly stupid <2> madradrone: why? <25> madradrone: says you <26> I am installing fglrx drivers on my laptop and when running aticonfig --initial it doesn't adjust xorg.conf. is this because I already manually edited it? <27> madradrone: I agree. It's a total waste of perfectly good entropy <17> ultraviolet16: I suggest you give up. <23> says the fact that the amplifier is totally overloaded, you are sending a clipping signal to the speakers, and the fact that there are 100 better ways to do it with real command-line sound apps <26> pipeline: ha. why? <17> ultraviolet16: You're not going to get much help with fglrx here. <2> try #ati <23> plus that you are giving bad advice to newbies. its like having a kid play with a voltage generator <24> ultraviolet16, in sarge? <18> hey I always give my kid a fork and tell him to play with the electrical outlet <26> bucky: sarge with backports <2> madradrone: so because a tard has his speakers up all the way .. it's bad ? <9> 13771 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2754.200 FPS <24> ultraviolet16, /msg dpkg xmd5sum <9> pipeline: <9> it does work <9> :P <26> thanks a lot.. i'm pretty sure that's what I needed.. seems familiar <0> md5sum doesn't apply to xorg's backport <26> bucky: thanks <26> oh <23> abrotman: i would argue the tard is the one who gives the kid a voltage generator in the first place and expects him to keep it dialed down <25> besides, /dev/urandom is much better than the crap that is called "music" these days <2> madradrone: so what other apps would you have him use? <23> you never heard of clipping? read some hi-fi magazines and find out why its really bad <24> ultraviolet16 gravity so which xserver is it? <28> hello <9> pipeline: but that was a 2d test
