<0> abrotman: that could be possible, yes
<1> or is there any .diff file for my version of 2.6.8-2-i386
<2> abrotman: that's really up to the DPL, but since those people are delegates, the DPL would have to replace the existing delegates to do so.
<0> dondelelcaro: did you send in your willingness to do that, yet ;-P?
<3> wols, dondelelcaro, stew, thanks... i'll do some quick learning
<4> kspath, it worked! thank you all for all your kind help.
<0> eh, no, I mean having someone informerly delegated to look into NM and advice on actions to take
<2> jvw: heh. no...
<0> not to replace the current delegates
<5> unfo: do not tell anyone
<6> so, if i wanted to stop a service from starting on boot, i would just need to delete the symlink out of the specific runlevel directory?
<7> dondelelcaro: ah .. so you can't just have a "cabinet" exchange like the morons in the oval office?
<5> unfo: debian is a secret
<8> !update-rc.d
<9> methinks update-rc.d is used to manipulate what's loaded when a system boots up. Also use it instead of deleting symlinks by hand Example to add: 'update-rc.d dhcpd defaults 90'. Example to remove: 'update-rc.d -f dhcpd remove', or read "man update-rc.d" for a good intro to Debian's boot process, or see rcconf

<8> bleaked: ^^^
<0> abrotman: the DD's can recall a DPL
<2> abrotman: not without specifically replacing delegates...
<0> abrotman: the DPL can make team changes if he wishes so, because the team isn't official
<7> dondelelcaro: well right .. but i mean .. you can change whoever you want ..
<10> something is changing the permissions to /dev/null from time to time, how can i track this down?
<7> more or less .. appointment for life .. unless someone wants you out
<5> mrverbose: lsof fuser sa acct
<6> beardy. ah excellent. i was worried deb didn't have some nice rc scripts...why..idk..but thank you!
<7> jvw: might be useful in your platform thing to outline areas where a team person might be delegated to "look after"
<8> bleaked: also '/msg dpkg rcconf'
<0> abrotman: platforms are final now. Ask on -vote if you want a clarification :)
<10> kspath: ??
<7> jvw: so that someone might get a better idea of what might get more attention .. or be able to suggest another area
<5> mrverbose: any pattern? time of day? day of week? periodic?
<7> jvw: darn you! :)
<5> mrverbose: tools to help you look/watch/check
<7> jvw: no addendums allowed?
<4> unfo: i don't understand
<10> kspath: ah, thx
<8> bleaked: Debian actually has nice scripts and nice ways of doing most things.
<4> i mean kspath:.
<1> how do i go about with multipath routing?
<7> jvw: well .. you know .. i suggested it .. you could just send it :0
<4> kspath, i dont get your meaning of the joke over irc, there's no tone of voice.
<11> umm, kernel boots perfectly but can't mount my LVM /, any pointers please ?
<5> unfo: I was being silly/nutty
<6> beardy. good to know. thx
<8> bleaked: np
<4> ok. :)
<0> abrotman: well, but I couldn't possibly win your vote :-P
<5> !win jvw
<9> Congratulations, jvw! You have won a one way ticket to Baghdad!
<7> jvw: it doesn't seem that every nominee has adovcated the team thing
<7> !prize jvw
<4> !help win
<4> !win unfo
<9> Congratulations, unfo! You have won a lifetime supply of spam!
<4> haha
<5> unfo: take that home. It is from WWII era.
<12> and its just as good now as it was then
<4> kspath: don't worry, i'll send some to all my professors
<7> jvw: i can't vote .. i'm a slacker
<5> Ronin: back handed compliment of Hormel product?
<4> kspath: with a thank-u card for the quality of their teaching.
<12> kspath: not sure if id call it a compliment but they certainly pack it safely
<6> beardy. is there a way to list inits that will run at boot..or say, all of the available ones? or does one just ls the /etc/rc directories?
<5> whois -r?
<13> abrotman: aren't in tarzeau and me's team?
<7> chealer: you're not a DD are you?
<14> bleaked: just /etc/rcX.d ones which begin with S
<5> bleaked: run levels is not exactly a debian thing
<13> abrotman: since when do you need to be DD to be DPL?
<7> chealer: you're not even NM are you?
<11> any help mounting / from LVM, please <8-<>
<15> bleaked: rcconf?
<13> abrotman: haha, no. I'm not even sponsored :)
<7> chealer: you'd have to ask for sponsor wouldn't you?

<13> abrotman: that too
<7> heh
<4> k bye all
<13> abrotman: I got one grammatical patch acknowledged today :)
<7> chealer: i hope it was french grammar
<13> abrotman: I don'T remember, but I would guess so
<6> kspath. well..idk..i was just wondering if there was a feature like, say, "update-rc.d show" or something like that..
<7> thank goodness
<5> sithi: apt-cache search routing; apt-cache search route might have something for you...
<10> i got it tracked down, it seems to be sshd
<16> my friend was trying to install debian onto one of his hard drives, he downloaded the testing ISO and started install.. when he came to partitioning section it asked him to do it auto. he did it and it failed within 1 second.. he tried to boot onto his windows hard drive and i guess it destroyed it. any way to recover his important files off of the drive?
<5> x|e: testing is just that testing. Try stable?
<7> Doesn't "auto" say "This will wipe out the whole harddrive" ?
<17> hi my friends
<16> yeap it said, he had two hard drives
<16> it wiped primary and secondary i guess :/
<7> that doens't make sense
<16> he put the windows disc in and it still has the ntfs file structure he said but he cant access any files
<18> ^_^ sup abrotman
<17> i would like to know how when i install apache , apt-get install apache is instaled apache and apache2 ?
<7> nekostar: hi
<6> nkuttler. yes, i suppose rcconf is exactly what i was looking for, thanks :]
<7> jsan: it did what?
<19> jsan: it shouldn't have installed apache2 but it might have installed apache2-utils which is shared between both versions
<7> or apache2-common
<15> x|e: use a live cd and examine the situation. if that fails google filesystem+recovery. lots of software and companies out there
<17> ok stew
<17> then the utils betwen apache and apache2 is instaled
<17> ok !
<20> x|e: gpart may also help
<17> yes stew ?
<16> yea ive got a filesystem recovery program... but it tells him it doesnt recognize the filesystem :/
<21> hi
<21> i have a problem with gnome
<21> the app names in the taskbar override their button
<21> so names override other apps names
<21> its kinda ugly
<16> if we formatted over it with ntfs will the files still be recoverable?
<21> how can i make it wrap to its own app button in the taskbar?
<5> rcconf - Debian Runlevel configuration tool
<5> apt-cache search Runlevel
<15> x|e: um, no
<8> bleaked: If you run rcconf, you see them all. And as said, Debian doesn't use specific multiuser runlevels, runlevel 2 is what is used, and seen with rcconf. 'ls /etc/rc2.d' also shows you, as said.
<22> Yesterday i upgraded my Etch-Box. Xorg got upgraded too. Now X does not start any more. There is no backup file in /etc/X11/. Where should it be stored?
<17> stew, then i installed only apache utils betwen apache and apache2, correct ?
<7> jsan: dpkg -l | grep apache
<19> jsan: you can run "apt-cache policy apache2" and look at the Installed: line and see if the apache2 server is actually installed. the fact that apache2-utils got installed shouldn't worry you
<13> lexter: a backup of what?
<15> x|e: boot live cd, check if there is a partition table, try to mount
<5> oh crap it is who -r no idea why I typed whois -r
<16> mmk will it mount ntfs?
<22> chealer: A backup of my xorg.conf-file. If there were any changes 'apt' should same a backupfile
<5> bleaked: who -r does show run-level like other distros and OS do
<15> x|e: i guess that depends on the cd used
<5> bleaked: maybe not exact same syntax though
<6> beardy. looking at my runlevels..i'm seeing a few questionable things. like, i have a dbus and a dbus-1, and alsa is unchecked. what do you think?
<6> kspath. ok, thanks :D
<21> kspath: do you use gnome?
<8> bleaked: Which runlevel?
<5> Aghaster: when someone hold a gun to my head yes. I use ion3 or (openbox3 or blackbox or fluxbox)
<21> oh
<21> ok
<5> Aghaster: sorry, not trying to be rude. I can not afford the resources that gnome and kde and xfce want to use.
<21> because i have an annoying problem with gnome right now
<21> the apps names in the taskbar do not wrap to their own app button
<21> so they override other apps' buttons
<21> text over text is kinda ugly.
<21> and unreadable
<23> anyone here with experience in ESD?
<15> Aghaster: here's how i fix gnome problems: mv .gnome* .gconf* backup/
<24> you mean like sneaking up behind a sibling after shuffling your feet alot?
<21> nkuttler: hum, and what does that do?
<8> bleaked: You could make an alias of this, to show you what is being started; ls /etc/rc2.d/ | sed 's/S[0-9][0-9]//'
