<0> gejo_deb: man iptables
<1> litage: I didn't mean to say it's not working, it's just that far less people use it than mod_ssl
<0> ah
<2> i want quake2 server
<2> but debian...
<3> i have checked all the setting in alsamixer and i can hear the echo in mic. but i am unable to record any voice?
<1> litage: anyway, debug postinst now
<2> not bg
<0> jm_: why would one use apache+mod_ssl rather than apache-ssl?
<2> ./server &
<2> stop
<1> litage: more people use it so it receives better testing?
<2> nohup ./server &
<2> bg
<0> ah
<2> stop;;;

<4> dpkg: grub, howto
<5> http://pastebin.com/624550 is this work for port forwarding?
<5> can you help me please?
<0> how do you download (not install) a package but not its dependencies? ``apt-get -d install PACKAGE'' downloads PACKAGE and its deps
<1> aptitude download foo ; debget should also work I guess
<4> jm_: are you able to help me?
<1> Jeeves_Moss: not if I have to read your mind to find out what the problem is
<0> thanks jm_
<6> lo lo

<8> hello
<8> Mar 27 09:12:16 www fetchmail[3896]: Server CommonName mismatch: localhost != mail.example.com
<8> I got that on a server, what does it mean?
<8> or rather... what am I doing wrong?
<9> anyone here using a HD DVB card under debian ? im trying to compare CPU usage with my setup..
<9> it seems i use up to about 85% cpu (on a sempron 2400+) to watch HD broadcasts
<5> http://pastebin.com/624550 is this work for port forwarding?
<0> jm_: thanks for suggesting i look in the apache-ssl package's control files. it turns out that the postinst only asks you to generate an ssl cert if /etc/apache-ssl/apache.pem doesn't exist. so by touching that file and then running ``apt-get -f install'', configuring the package skips the cert gen which fails
<1> litage: but you'll have troubles starting it now - you could simply edit the file in /var/lib/dpkg/info/<pkgname>.postinst and then run dpkg --pending --configure
<0> jm_: true, but i'm going to use my own cert
<1> litage: ahh so you already have it generated?
<0> jm_: yep
<10> i need to open a pdf file in gnome, but i want to use "wine C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe " but that command doesn't allow it, is there another to make Acrobat open pdf files in gnome? what is the correct syntax to do so?
<1> why don't you use native Linux tools?
<11> I'm going to throw this at you guys to see if this is happening on debian. If root creates a file in UID 1000's home directory, and changes the permissions to 0000 and the ownership is set as root.root, UID 1000 should not be able to delete the file correct? That isn't what is happening on my cpu under xfs and at least one other person's under ext3.
<1> vook: they can delete the file
<11> jm_, no kidding? root cannot create a file in another users home directory and force it to stay there?
<12> sure they can.
<1> vook: you can, i.e. immutable files if your fs supports it, or RSBAC
<13> o.O
<5> apt-cache search pdf
<5> yopu can see a lot programs for open pdf files
<13> pjv: apt-get install gpdf
<14> having trouble getting my network setup. any ideas on how to know what i need to know to get my computer to connect to my router with debian?
<14> I have it hooked up physically
<10> nvz: i need a decent pdf writer, scribus just show my graphical logos in black shadow
<14> says no nic
<15> pjv: openoffice
<1> gabriella29: you need to load the driver for your NIC first
<13> Gnea: OOo can save pdf format?
<16> i want the openssl-includes pakg i cant find it
<15> nvz: you've never used OOo?
<16> i wanna recompile freeradius
<14> how can i figure out what nic it is i have a ethernet jack but built into motherboard it seems
<1> lspci
<13> Gnea: I've used it but I wouldnt use pdf :P
<17> I run an openssh server and someone using putty has to connect but we are finding problems with public key formats, anyone found problems with this?
<15> nvz: well that's dumb :P
<1> putty docs explain how to convert the keys to appropriate format
<18> jm_, -_-
<18> hasn't slept yet ?
<1> are you asking me?
<17> jm_: yes but it isn't still working, can I develop in the problem and perhaps you can help me solving?
<18> yeah

<1> hmm I haven't been on IRC since Friday :)
<16> i wanna recompile freeradius but it needs the openssl-inculdes pkg
<10> Gnea: which filter should i use?
<18> I see.
<16> i cant find it online
<1> secure: I don't use putty
<19> hi, how can I know my gnome version?
<17> jm_: the guy using putty has a windows box, I suggested him getting putty, but is there some other option more adapted to openssh?
<20> SonnyBurnett: dpkg -l gnome-session
<15> pjv: no need.
<1> secure: putty will work just fine, but he needs to generate the right key
<17> jm_: I think that's the problem the key generation, when he sent me the file, it didn't have the proper format, although he generated it this way
<17> strange
<21> What can cause the creation of files like this: ./bin/.nfs700a8ac300000938 ? Obviously something to do with NFS, but what?
<19> where can I download nice gnome themes from?
<10> Gnea: i clicked File > Open> pdf file. now it is asking me which filter i should use? this is on openoffice writer
<1> secure: 8.2.10 Public key for pasting into authorized_keys file
<21> SonnyBurnett: Many have Debian packages; more exist at art.gnome.org.
<15> pjv: it doesn't work that way
<15> pjv: you don't 'edit' pdf files
<17> jm_: what is 8.2.10?????
<1> secure: it's a chapter from PuTTY docs
<15> pjv: not in the 'normal' sense anyway - you need to convert it to a PNG fist and then open it, then export it back
<17> jm_: where are these putty docs? on the internet?
<17> gimme the address
<1> secure: on the putty web page, I bet it's also in the help
<19> JoshTriplett, What do you mean with "Debian pkgs", should I just look for .deb files to install new themes??
<17> ok i'll check
<21> SonnyBurnett: gtk2-engines-*, gnome-icon-theme-*.
<21> SonnyBurnett: Available in the Debian archive.
<19> JoshTriplett, how are named the Gnome Themes? gtk2-engines?
<1> nome-themes - official themes for the GNOME 2 desktop
<1> gnome-themes-extras - various themes for the GNOME 2 desktop
<22> I'm looking for a way to manage a cluster-configuration and the installed software. I found cfengine2. But is there a more debian-specific way which e.g. could also handle the installed packages?
<1> wam: did you check fai?
<22> jm_: not yet. I'll do.
<17> jm_: many thanks for the direction where I should read, bye guys
<21> wam: Also see pkgsync.
<22> JoshTriplett: thanks!
<23> hello, is there any ssh client - gui application? gftp can only sftp :( and I need to connect servers which have just ssh, sftp not.
<1> what's wrong with ssh?
<23> jm_: I don't know how can I view which files are there...
<23> jm_ ...it is case that I don't have shell account
<23> jm_:just scp
<24> hello
<1> plbgnr: lftp supports FISH
<24> any idea how i can make linux account for the daylight saving time in australia

<24> why on earth did australia decide to change daylight saving
