<0> benson & hedges <1> !cooperation in asking for help <2> i guess cooperation in asking for help is trying to give as much relevant information as possible and reading cited documentation. Ask me about SICCO and research. abbreviated as cia <3> well it was a nice conversation but counterproductive <4> blondie: too late. it's a flaming troll. :) <5> o.o <5> sticky-up and bright colored? <6> has someone got a fileplanet.com account and can download me worminator3 ? <3> what the hell is a troll, I always thought it was an ugly monster really heary <7> blondie, puke green and bright pink :) <6> M3G4crux: in #nethack it's a T <4> !troll <2> it has been said that troll is In Internet terminology, a troll is a person who posts rude or offensive messages on the Internet, such as in online discussion forums, to disrupt discussion or to upset its participants. "Troll" can also mean the message itself or be a verb meaning to post such messages. "Trolling" is also commonly used to describe the activity. <8> Supaplex: come on <8> !tell gimmie about root
<3> I love it dpkg is always there :D <9> i need help with java i am trying to add it to path <9> how to do it <9> ? <5> edit your .bashrc file <3> we should replace the government with dpkg, what do you think Ronin? <0> hey guys, I have a problem. I have this laptop, where the screen is broken. I installed ubuntu on it to give a shot. That was a long time ago. I never bothered with the machine. Now, I want to install debian on it, but it has no cd/dvd/floppy/usb. The screen is broken, and I cannot hook up even an external monitor. But right now, the apps work over ssh -X. How can I install debian on it? I could netboot it, but the problem is, I would <0> n't know what is going on, since I wont' be able to see the output. I can however login with ssh, switch to root etc. How would I go about it from here? <4> well what does M3G4crux want.. <10> semboy: You may be better off asking in #java if you're talking about your JAVACL*** <11> semboy: Use the debian package system, and it will already be in your path. <8> java-package should set that up <12> semboy - you DON'T have Java, your install failed. <3> Supaplex: am I bothering you? <12> semboy: start over again. <10> semboy: Well, there's a couple of ways :) <13> stoned: is that a joke? hehheh cuz you've got me laughing quite a bit <10> semboy: Does it have a serial port? <10> no... <0> Vasistha, whats a joke? <10> stoned: does it have a serial port? <3> if I do let me know i will cut it out <0> Maulkin, yes <5> stoned: something that's meant to be funny <10> stoned: Ok, you may be able to install it with a serial console <0> blondie, smart*** lol, I meant like what about I said was a joke hehe <13> stoned: this laptop that is almost completely unusable? I guess not! Well... good luck! looks like Maulkin's the one to help you! <14> stoned: debootstrap <0> Vasistha, 1.8ghz, 512 ram, 80gb hdd, its a decent laptop, just REALLY beat up <5> I've installed debian on a machine 1,000 miles away :) <10> Vasistha: I've used them many times in the past. They're like computers with built in UPSes. Very useful :) <4> M3G4crux: no, abrotman was annoyed I think by my issing of !troll so dpkg might answer your question. No worries. <5> replacing redhat 9 <15> hi <7> !marry M3G4crux and Supaplex <2> M3G4crux, do you take Supaplex to be your lawfully wedded spouse? Supaplex, do you take M3G4crux? Cool. Kiss or something. <16> how do i get the xscreensaver deamon to run on boot? <3> ok, than <8> Supaplex: sure .. blame me! <3> I love this guy <0> Vasistha, right now if has ubuntu on it, and I can login with ssh, run frostwire, openoffice all my bigger apps. its not completely useless, and that is why I want to put it to some use <3> say something so my girl does not see what I just saied :D <4> abrotman: ok. :-P <14> netsurf3: maybe you really want it to run on X login, not on boot <7> M3G4crux, ctrl-l :) <0> nanok, I will look up debootstrap <17> Vasistha: i got disconnected when i asked you...will gtkpod allow me to access the linux partition of the ipod or just its windows partition? <13> stoned: wow, man... good luck with that one! the UPS thing IS really nice <3> hold on I am to busy trying to find alt+F4 <0> Maulkin, what about the serial console? Could you elaborate a bit plese <14> stoned: there is also something called debtakeover, iirc <6> nanok: which is pretty nice <14> tarzeau: ;) <13> yohu123: I'm not at all sure. Having a linux partition on an ipod is somewhat unusual. I guess you have a compelling reason to have it set up that way? <10> stoned: www.debian-administration.org/articles/221 <0> thank you <3> I found 1200 suspicious files in windows <3> all were common windows applications, f-prot is the **** too <10> stoned: Read the comments on there. <18> stew, that's more complex that I though, because when you look at the apt-cache showsrc gimp, the dependencies are even arch dependent ! <14> yeah, a serial console could be fun to try, indeed
<19> yohu123: make sre it's not a journaled fs <14> M3G4crux: them being common windows apps doesnt make them clean.. <18> stew, I better run gentoo ... <10> Serial console shoudn't be too hard TBH. Or, if you can netboot, you can use telnet/ssh to install <3> nanok totally agreed <3> there should be a debian meeting in San Fermines, Spain this summer <20> how can i add my bluetooth keyboard to the bootup so i can use it when i login? <3> so we can all party and talk about linux while we get wasted <0> ahh found something. I open the jack, and then laptop, solder the pins to the right connections. Schematics I found <20> i have it connected already but i need to add it at boot <10> stoned: That's probably a better solution :) <0> Its not much different from trying to solder nintendo controllers to serial devices <0> I mean <0> parallel port <0> sweet, word, thanks, I will look into debootrasp and the other thing anyway, incase the soldering fails for some reason <21> has anyone installed Helix on etch? <3> !sanfermines <21> !dpkg helix <2> hmm... helix is open multi-format digital media platform http://www.helixcommunity.org/ <13> redphoenix1: you are wanting to use it to type in your username and p***word when you are starting, e.g., KDE? Or do you want to use it in grub to select which os to boot? <21> !dpkg helix etch <20> kde <8> swim: stop already .. use /msg <20> its already detected at boot with i choose from rub <20> err <20> lilo <21> sorry abrotman <22> yeah you're nick hilighting me all over the place <0> hehe <0> helix, they do that to me all the time <17> ootput: journaled fs....whats that? <22> who the hell says "stoned" a lot? <0> not a lot, but they do <0> hehe <3> a fs for journalists hehehe <8> mostly when picking on him <13> redphoenix1: I guess you've got it working in KDE right now, and you have a special command you need to type in to make it start working, but you want that to happen automatically? <20> yea <20> i have a command to get it to connect <16> nanok: how do you do that then? <13> well we might not talk about being stoned in this channel a whole lot, but I'm sure in some other channels... <20> and yes i want it to happen when i boot so i can use it when i login to gdm <10> yohu123: it's a way that filesystems record the most recent changes. It generally allows things to be speedier if the power is lost to the machine unexpectedly <0> http://www.daileyint.com/build/buildtoc.htm <-- guide to building your own laptop <13> redphoenix1: it's really helpful if you type my nick in (you might try tab-completion) when we're talking, it makes it much easier to communicate in a big room <0> "The two basic components required to build a laptop computer are obviously a lap and a computer..." <0> lol <20> Vasistha, ok hehe sorry :) <17> so how do i check that the ipods fs is not journalized? <3> the journalist in spain **** <20> Vasistha, yea i just want it to be up at the login screen (gdm) <3> ipod does not use fat? <16> so how can i make a program run on starting X then? <13> !tell redphoenix1 about update-rc.d <16> Or gdm <16> as that is what i am using <1> !sicco <2> Please ask sicco questions, questions that are Specific, Informative, Concise, Complete, and On-topic. Ask me about <research> and <cooperation in asking for help>. <16> !sicco run program starting gdm <13> redphoenix1: so you probably have a script that can start the bluetooth stuff working in KDE. You need to add that script to your init, with update-rc.d <21> who runs etch? could I see your sources.list? <0> male female jack set for monitor/laptop is 15$ <0> sweet <16> lol <20> Vasistha, ok thank you <16> expencive imho <23> swim: what kind of sources do you need? <13> swim: what's your question / problem? People on different corners of the earth should be using different / local sources in the souces.list... what kind of problem are you having with apt? <0> is it? fine, i'll look for cheaper :) <16> stoned 15 for an adaptor? <24> anyone know the syntax for the -K switch to useradd? seems that no matter where I place it I get "useradd: invalid option -- K". i'm trying to add a user with useradd -g foo -u 1002 -K P***_MAX_DAYS=-1 -K P***_MIN_DAYS=-1 <16> male to female? <10> swim: I'd suggest running apt-setup <16> what does it do have a built in wmd too?
