<0> mhall: STFU
<1> a BOFH is just a jerk who has root. I say that as someone whose .plan at work says I'm a BOFH
<2> kspath: WNBT
<0> dannyp: hehehe
<3> does exim4 need a line in inetd.conf to work?
<4> Yeah: at least on some networks-I've been on a few networks were well.. Once a friend of mine got control of my IRC chat window because I was running it in screen and I didn't realize he'd attached his screen, next thing he made me type something in spannish flooding the Administrator of the hub server with messages, and next thing I know.. "*** Server notice ***Hub.TX.Us.FreedomChat.org*** You are permanently bannned from
<5> mhall: STFU
<6> wpostma: not unless you are starting it via inetd
<3> asg, it is normally run as a daemon in debian though, not through inetd?
<7> Keith-BlindUser: never give access to your machime to people you can't trust 100%.
<6> wpostma: yes, it is a daemon by default

<0> Keith-BlinderUser : never give others access, ever.
<1> kspath: I imagine that's hard sometimes, especially if you're using things that are not accessible to you
<0> Keith-BlinderUser: people will think adding "exit" to your .bashrc is funny
<3> well it looks like exim4 is running on my system, from ps aux output, but "telnet localhost smtp" doesn't work.
<3> it says "connection closed by foreign host".
<8> wpostma: netstat -anp, and see what's listening
<4> I've had the same blind kid who laughed about whiping my Linux machine also trick me into typing a command in the Windows client mIRC that caused me to have all files on drive C: that windows wasn't using be removed. Therefore disabling short cuts, causing file protection errors, then he finished me off with Windows by causing me to run a executable that whiped the registry. Mhall, that's extremely not funny; nor is it nice.
<9> hi folks
<10> LSorensen: Unfortunatly, this is all I have... It's in the USB, and it was an autoinstall script that CUPS seemed to recognize. It had the model and all the other stuff it should have in the web interface afterwards, as opposed to before where it didn't.
<2> Keith-BlindUser: yeah that's a bunch of bull****
<0> dannyp: Ideally, you would make a script of the bios of your machines if blind so you can access all features. find a distribution of BSD or Linux that will have a simple and/or custom setup for Blind and than just learn to admin it yourself.
<11> LSorensen where can i paste a message ?
<9> how well is debian ported to 64bit architechture ? im thinking bout upgrading soon?
<11> not very long
<4> That's only one IRC network. So I came to Freenode wanting to get away from people that might simply enjoy making fools out of themselves with my missforchons.
<4> heh
<4> Amazes me too think about how much trouble one person can turn into, Heh.
<11> LSorensen http://channels.debian.net/paste/1887.
<2> Keith-BlindUser: i've turned into quite a bit of trouble before
<2> Keith-BlindUser: i got arrested a couple of weeks ago
<11> i have a problem
<12> mhall: no kidding? since you brought it up - what happened?
<11> i have a shell with debian ( a VPS ) , i did installed eggdrop ( standard 1.6.17 ) i put in my scripts & started up the egg ... but it doesnt appers on irc ... ( on my other VPS - FreeBSD ) they work fine ... .. what can i do ?
<11> in logs doenst appears any error
<2> peterS: well what i learned was, i do fine when i'm really drunk if it's not a weird situation
<11> doesnt*
<2> peterS: but if the situation's weird, it causes my brain to go on a real bender
<12> I see
<2> peterS: and then all manner of odd things can happen none of which i'll remember
<2> peterS: since it's ot can we take it to query or #mhall
<13> Hi! I need a free poker-game for linux which can play at least 7-card-stud. Best would be if it worked online. I only know pokerroom.com, who have a java-applet that also works under linux. Are there any free poker-games?
<11> who can help me with that ?
<14> i have ssh installed, and a friend tried to run putty on my server and it timed out. could it be a port issue?
<0> Oh, did I mention the fact that the default debian desktop install/config is a m***ive/bloated/HUGE/gigantic/tremendous/BIG pile of installation...
<15> kspath: you can just install the base system and then install the GUI stuff later - saves about 1 Gb or two Oo
<15> It's really nice though, for those who don't care much about their used space or have lots of free space :P
<16> I have two two PCs attached to a combined router/firewall thing. There is a printer attached to the other computer, can I print to it from this computer?
<6> kspath: that's why we install a base system and only apt-get what is needed.
<0> RedDrang0n: I believe you. I normally do a minimal install and only install a few other things. Was curious who/what/when/where/how all was going to get installed.

<17> after a clean installation of debian etch with kde 3.5.1 I have this error when opening a session: "Could not stard kdeinit. Check your installation", what does this mean and how to repair it ?
<18> always skip tasksel myself
<14> cups
<15> kspath: a script with lots of apt-get's I guess, for what I've seen in the terminals while installing, or so I think it is.
<7> and: so it says eggdrop is already installed. so just use it
<19> ping
<20> LSorensen .. but it doesnt works ..
<20> as i already told you ..
<7> UrbanWorks: then it isn't configured correctly.
<20> everything is fine ..except the fact that the bot doenst goes up on irc
<7> UrbanWorks: configuring eggdrop is far from trivial
<21> today i configured my iptables, and somehow one client cannot connect to NFS ( RPC timeout) the other is able. Both have exactly the same configuration in the iptables, (access to all ports)
<20> then how do you explain that on my otherr vps ( with freebsd ) everything works fine ..
<22> ZiDaNe: see #debian-kde
<7> UrbanWorks: you configured it differently I imagine.
<20> i did configured eggdrop on both vpss
<20> ... i cant figure it out
<7> UrbanWorks: or maybe you have it firewalled off on one of them
<23> I got a hd off a friend who needs me to hook him up with an installation. I want to do it from work tonight maybe through ssh to a chroot on my box, how does that work? I've never installed that way
<24> xored: the server supports both clients?
<24> xored: does the kernel supports NFS?
<21> yes sure
<21> epsilon: its not an NFS error. If i flush iptables, both can connect
<21> epsilon: i`ve opened all ports for both cients on this linux box
<22> DevilChaos: ask #debian-amd64
<25> anyone know how I can rebuild /var/lib/dpkg/available? Mine's corrupted and it makes 'apt-get -f install' break complaining aobut the corruption. moving it out of the way didn't fix it.
<24> xored: tcpdump?
<23> that would be the most productive way I think. cause it would need minimal interaction from me it can go at setting his system up while I am at work I can just keep an eye on it
<21> epsilon: the clieant which is not able to connect to NFS can do anything else like swat etc
<7> nvz: doing an install outside the target system is a lot harder. installing the bootloader and such would be a real pain
<21> epsilon: what is that ?
<23> LSorensen: oh?
<7> nvz: and configuring and testing X and such would be nearly imposible, unless the machines are identical
<23> LSorensen: maybe put his hd in mine and do a base and setup ssh then?
<24> xored: much information
<2> wam: apt-cache search poker
<26> QUESTION: When i try to upgrade udev 0.081-1 to 0.084-5 apt wants to remove hal, gnome, and other important stuff. what should i do?? I use etch with kernel 2.6.12.
<23> LSorensen: I never done chroot install.. I thought I would be easier.. I could just ssh into my box and install him without ever restarting
<24> search strippoker :P
<7> nvz: and I wouldn't recomend a chroot install unless you have a good reason for one. it leaves a bunch of stuff not configured that the install does for you
<21> epsilon: shoudl i install it, its not there yet
<24> !install
<27> There are a myriad different ways to install Debian. See http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/debian-installer for a list of images. Ask me about <install guide> for detailed instructions. (If you've never installed Debian before, you should read the install guide.)
<7> nvz: much easier if your friend brings the whole machine, then you can just set it up properly
<28> epsilon, are you the epsilon or epita ?
<24> ?
<28> epsilon, you would have gotten it already, enevermind
<23> LSorensen: he has a pirate XP without activation on there now.. he just wants to rip mp3s from cds and put them on his mp3 player/phone. so maybe doing a base install on his and setting up ssh, then I can ssh in from work and finish it setting up X, a DE, lame, grip, cdparanoia..etc
