<0> what is a good guide on getting a usb audio device working with alsa/sarge/2.6? The problem is that alsaconf does not recognize the card though it's in /proc/asound/cards when the module snd-usb-audio is loaded. <1> john_doe: there's no need for alsaconf to know your card, and if its /proc/asound/cards then alsaconf is quite pointless <1> s/its/its already in/ <0> valdyn: ok. But how do I use it then? <2> So, i need that patch, and i thought that it was in sarge already.. <0> valdyn: it's in /proc/asound/cards as card1 when the module is loaded. I guess they should be swapped to activate the usb card then? <3> I'am still receiving all the unknown symbols when trying to modprobe ipw2200 <4> hi all <5> Any reason for 'cat file | dpkg --set-selections' not working? :( <6> 40min till i can go home \o/ <7> lucky you RvGaTe <8> yacoob: try dpkg --set-selections < file <9> natsei 0000:00:05.0: EEPROM did not reload in 20000 usec. <--- is that fixable? <9> natsemi* <1> !asoundrc <5> asg: tried, same thing.
<6> Ronin: alto its only 40min waiting, it takes me 1,5 hours to even GET home :P <1> !dmix <10> somebody said dmix was an alsa subsystem which allows a music device to play multiple sound streams simultaneously without the need for an external sound server. See http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=DmixPlugin, or another sample asound.conf at img.hexus.net/v2/features/foss/a3/images/asound.conf, or http://phaeronix.net/asoundrc <1> john_doe: even if you dont need dmix those asoundrc examples might be enlightening <11> is there a way to get a printout of all the files that an installed deb has? <12> hi all. I just setup a ntpserver, and installed ntpdate in a cliient. but when I run the latter, I get May 10:52:07 ntpdate[12976]: no servers can be used, exiting. the client can resolve the server's ip and no firewall in between. I also notice, running ntpdate under strace, that it doesn't even try to contact the server. any hints? <8> ootput: dpkg -L <pkg> <12> ootput: dpkg -L <package> <0> valdyn: thanks! <13> i have 2 hostap driven wirless bridges..... does anyone have experience with Bridging interfaces? <11> I stupidly ran a purge() function in /, and nuked several import .o's <11> important <11> asg, StyXman: cheers <11> asg: can a regexp be used in place of package? <11> I don't know whichpackages have been affected <5> asg: apt-get dselect-upgrade "sees" the list. Die, dselect, DIE! <13> i have 2 hostap driven wirless bridges..... does anyone have experience with Bridging interfaces? <14> Hi. Is there a place I can configure wget options for using apt-get ? <8> yacoob: sorry, forgot to mention that bit <5> asg: it's strange that subsequent --get doesn't show "new" state, but, eh. <12> ootput: only * works, afaik <5> asg: I despise dselect greatly. <11> StyXman: alright <8> ootput: I don't think it accespts wildcards or regexes though you could use the output of dpkg -l and some awkishness to get a list that you can then feed to dpkg -L in a for loop <15> !popcon <10> hmm... popcon is the Debian Popularity contest. See results at http://popcon.debian.org/ or install popularity-contest to participate. do the dpkg-reconfigure -plow popularity-contest right after you answered all debconf stuff <8> yacoob: as do I <16> i'm running etch, is there a reason why i have both /usr/lib/firefox/plugins and /usr/bin/mozilla-firefox/plugins ? <12> oh, stupid, silly me. ntpdate spects the server's name :( <4> I have two computers in the one LAN. First is under debian 3.1, and second: windows xp. comp1(debian) has 192.168.0.1 ip, comp2(winXP): 192.168.0.2. When i set the comp2 ip 192.168.0.1, it didn't say anythink and work in the network. In the same time comp1 couldn't work in the network. I have tried it with two windows comps and when i change one comp ip into the second once it's gives ip conflict and doesn't give second comp access to the network and first <11> asg: ah! dpkg-awk :) <8> ootput: ah <11> I never knew about it until now <8> ootput: looks like a newer wrapper, they are creating them all the time <5> Right. Off to further installation. <4> did you read what i write? <8> Fox_1_: still trying to parse it <17> Fox_1_: you point? <17> your* <4> so? <18> thanks for the appreciation... <1> Fox_1_: why would you intentionally break your network by giving 2 computers the same IP ? <8> Fox_1_: what question are you asking given the information above? <19> I use a static ip address within my vmware virtual machines. All are debian. But the entry in resolv.conf always changes back to some other incorrect value. What could be the cause of this? <20> where could I configure IPChains please or firewall or both ? <8> ace_me: /usr/share/doc/iptables/README* <21> hi <4> valdyn: it's for testing, but inn real my server have static ip and when someone in that network put my server's ip my server is going down. <11> meh, too much trouble to figure out <8> GutterPunk: is there still a dhclient running somewhere on the box? <21> I make a network boot, and when the kernel try to mount nfs fail to mount the nfs share, and here is the detailed explanation of problem: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-455411-highlight-unable+mount+nfs+5.html some suggestions? <11> i suppose dpkg -l | awk '{print $2}' should do <13> wireless bridge dropping packets before hitting hitting main network.... eth0=>wlan0<=========>wlan0<=eth0 <1> Fox_1_: yep <19> asg, I thought not since I had set it to static :s Should I kill it? <11> hm, some trash at the very beginning though <8> Fox_1_: whoever is running that network should not let that happen
<8> GutterPunk: yes <19> asg, ok thanks! <8> GutterPunk: you're welcome <1> Fox_1_: he can do even more damage by connecting your network cable to a power outlet <8> Fox_1_: or futz with the arp tables and intercept all traffic to / from your box without you knowing it <4> listen i don't know english so mach. asg: it must do my ISP, yes? <1> heh <8> Fox_1_: if you have a contract with your ISP to provide you an IP address, they shouldn't be brining up random machines at their end with your IP <1> Fox_1_: if someone can physically connect to your network, he can do ALL kinds of harm, no need to even consider something sophisticated <8> hammer! proper <22> valdyn: you mean like this? http://www.fiftythree.org/etherkiller/ <23> !es <10> Hispanohablantes: Por favor usen #debian-es, alli obtendran mas ayuda. Spanish Speakers: Please use #debian-es, there you will get much more help. <20> <8> now where is the default table (any empty one ) or where should I create it :) <1> sigjuice: excellent <8> ace_me: you just create it. If you don't know anything about iptables, I suggest using a creator script / manager like firehol <4> i and an other man use the same ISP and he have the static ip addess which is in my network(my 195.250.91.19 his 195.250.91.18). and when he change his ip into my, my server is going down. <8> Fox_1_: then contact your ISP and report him. He shouldn't be doing that. <4> we bath connecting with ISP by wierles <17> Fox_1_: try daemons that check new ips and hwaddress <24> hello i installed debian 3.1 successfuly but apt-get searchs for only stable packages. how can change this setting i want to search for unstable packages, too ? :(( <8> Klavier: if you have to ask, you don't want to use unstable (/msg dpkg sid faq) <25> Klavier: use backports instead, /msg dpkg backports <26> why I've make 3.81 in sid and there is no 3.81 in http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/m/make/ ? <4> i think it's a bug of debian. Because in that case windows work normal. <1> Fox_1_: nonsense <7> Klavier: dont mix and match unless you want to bugger up your system :) do as nkuttler suggested <15> any metapixel experts got improvement tips? http://io.debian.net/~tar/bugstats/mosaic/ <13> need help with brctl........anyone verssed in this subject? <24> i ll edit etc/apt/sources.list for unstable sources <24> im googling :P <1> Fox_1_: its in fact a feature of linux to permit all kinds of stuff that windows does not. And this has absolutely nothing to do with your friend being able to kill your server <8> Fox_1_: it has to do with the differences of the TCP/IP stacks between Windows and Linux <7> Klavier: can you fix it when unstable breaks? <8> Klavier: don't google, /msg dpkg sid faq <21> I make a network boot, and when the kernel try to mount nfs fail to mount the nfs share, and here is the detailed explanation of problem: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-455411-highlight-unable+mount+nfs+5.html some suggestions? <4> i understand, but i think it's a big and very dengares problem. <7> asg: /msg dpkg backports would be even better :) <7> i suspect <8> Ronin: he needs to read and understand about horrid bugs before that though <27> visik7, apparently it's in http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/m/make-dfsg/ <1> Fox_1_: problem of you / of your ISP, but it has nothing to do with debian <7> asg: very true <8> Ronin: you are right about backports <26> timo-: yes got it <4> valdyn: yes, my friend do that and then it say me about that. That i solve this problem. <24> Ronin i can fix.. <4> valdyn: i didn't think so. <6> \o/ another 10min waiting and im off to home \o/ <8> tick tock, tick tock <4> valdyn: i'll connect with my ISP and they will change it. <6> this is so boring, lol <7> RvGaTe: did you come in late? then you should leave early to make up for it <23> you could go to the bathroom or something <6> lol <8> or chat up the girl/guy in accounts payable <28> uhm stupid problem.... i have an account on a friends machine, but his mail server is on another machine (where i haven't an account, and am not supposed to).... <28> i use fetchmail to get the mail from other machines.... but have to resend them to the mail server.... how do i achieve that? <1> bboett: man fetchmailrc <28> heh allready did that valdyn ..... <28> there's a mda switch, but that works as far as i can see only for local delivery... <8> bboett: use fetchmail to get the mail and procmail to redirect such mail to the smarthost <1> bboett: procmail can act as mda and can do whatever fancy stuff you want to do wit that mail <28> aww will need 2 procmailrc then.... <1> bboett: why? <28> because i need one for regular mail receiving, and the other one for the mails bounced to the mail server <1> bboett: procmail can take a config file as argument <28> now i need to find the syntax for mail bouncing... <29> bboett: You should start reading now in that case. <6> 7min left :S <6> abrotman: bathroom didn't help, only got me away for 3min <7> i think RvGaTe needs to follow a govt employee around to learn the proper way to kill time <23> RvGaTe: eat more mexican <8> abrotman: nah, bangers and mash. Mexican comes out quickly
